Does warplane shoot backward ?

I would like to kindly disagree with you on the B29. The rear guns on the B29 were manually operated by a gunner sitting at the tail end of the plane. The turrets on the top and bottom were remotely controlled and operated by gunners in the waste positions of the plane. Same can be said that AFAIK no B17 had remotely controlled guns at all. The only exception might be a B17 that was here in the states for testing and proof of concept.

I finally got a set of strobes for a great price.

I now have an update. Being I was left with only one working strobe, I happened to click ebay and low and behold was a Photogenic Studiomax II for sale. The auction was ending last Sunday so I waited and bid on it on Sunday. Ended up winning for $30 plus shipping.

Came with the power cable and a sync cable, but the sync cable has a wrong end on it so not sure what it was for. Also, the only difference I can tell between the 2 and 3 is the modeling light. The 3 is rated for a 100w bulb with bayonet mount and the 2 is rated for a 40w bulb and is a small screw mount. Also the 2 I just got can be used with a battery pack for power.

Should be fun to use plus the learning curve of using them.

And that is why I don't do weddings or plan to do anymore . A nice set of triggers would be great to have, but which ones work with Pentax? I know there is a sticky on the front page of this section that talks about compatibility of the different triggers and the Pentax system, so there is always that.

And that is what I am missing. No knowledge of electronics repair. I had a chance way back in high school to take a class, but it conflicted with another class.

Yep, I got some strobe lights for a great price. But of course, with the way my luck runs, there is also bad news.

Anyway, what I got is a two peace set of Photogenic Studiomax III AKC 320 flash heads. Yeah, I know, they are nothing like if I had bought a set of Godox or Westcott but this is my first set. I got them home and I just gave them a quick test. One head works great, the second head died or finished dying while testing. Great, just great  . Like I said, my luck. The head that died I am sure a capacitor died as I herd some cracking and crackling come from the head.

As far as I can tell, if I send it to be repaired at any authorized repair centers or any photography repair shop, It will cost an arm and a leg to get it fixed.

I did some more testing of the good unit last night, and I got to say, I like the way they are designed with a feature I have not seen on other flashes. All the flash heads have a sync port on them where you can plug a cable between your camera and the flash head. At the same time, all the flash heads also have a slave photo cell. That is an interesting feature where you don't need to buy triggers. I tested the good flash head using my AF540FGZ and the flash worked like it should.

Now, the problem is getting the other flash head fixed. The bad news on that part is, like I said, will be expensive if I send it somewhere. On the other hand, I have a cousin who married a guy that does electronic repair so he could fix it. I also know of a guy in Indianapolis that does amplifier repair. I might go and ask him if he wants a challenge.

I never said what I spent on these flash units. They cost me $30 and a drive to a small town in Ohio which was a little over an hour away.

New K3 owner and questions

Just two things I would like to say as a person that does not own a K3.

You said it is nice to use older manual focus lenses with out an adapter. Pentax does sell an adapter you can get so you can mount screw mount lenses to newer SLR and DSLR's.

Also, and this is just me, I would turn off the sleep mode. That's how I have my K7 and K5IIs set up. Like I said, that's just me.

Sigma stated two or three years ago that they will not make lenses with a Pentax mount anymore. So yes, if you find a Pentax mount brand new Sigma lens in a store, that is new old stock, no longer in production.

Spotmatic SPII Bulb won't remain open

I have been watching this thread to see if somebody will ask a question, and nobody has. So I will. First I need to say I am not trying to be mean or sound like an as%$*le or anything. So anyways, here is the question.

You do know to use a camera in Bulb mode, when you take a picture, you need to hold the shutter release button down for the camera to take a long exposure? Example, for a 5 second exposure, you need to hold the shutter release button for 5 seconds which will hold the shutter open for 5 seconds.

Not trying to be mean, but sometimes we do miss obvious things. I do that all the time. Plus, I don't know what your experience is with cameras. Sorry. :)

Poll: Do you keep you negatives/positives after processing?

I have always kept my negatives. I'm just not sure where they are right now due to a sudden move and a lot of stuff is still in storage.

I also have the negatives that my father made. those are with me and I am scanning them right now. It's funny how many photos I have never seen is on the negatives. I also realized that if I haven't seen the photos then nobody has. I have also seen photos that have been printed. Out of the two or three that have been printed, there might be another eight the wasn't. Some of these negatives go back to 1955 or so and most of them are 120/220.

Just taking a shot in the dark here but it could be the capacitor for the flash has gone bad. Sadly it would cost a lot to get it repaired.

Update, Update, Update.

I solved the problem. Not perfectly, but it works.

After looking through the suggestions and thinking about all the negatives I need to see what's on them, I started thinking about a light box. Looking on Amazon for a light box, which I never found, I found what is called a Light Pad. It is made for art work and tracing plus looking at negatives and copying negatives with a camera.

Just tried it out.

Set up my camera on a tripod with a 100mm macro and was able to get the negatives I needed done.

The only problem I found was I started out with the pad flat on a table. With how I had the tripod set, the table was too close and I couldn't get the whole negative in the frame.

So I set the pad up vertically and it worked. I still had a problem in that the pad did not have an edge for the negative to set on. I solved that by putting a peace of tape on the pad.

I need to work on the set up some more but it worked so I am happy.

Thanks for all the advice.

Thanks for the reply. I should have put this in my original post. I was able to solve the driver problem by finding the software disk for the scanner. Most of my stuff is in storage and I knew what bookcase my software was on. I just wasn't sure where in storage the bookcase was. Me and my son found the bookcase and it wasn't as far back as I thought it was. That was the weekend we also solved the problem of the memory card I found and wrote about in the general talk section of the forum. It's finally over. A story of being determined. - PentaxForums.com

I have a Canon canoscan 9000f markII flatbed scanner. It works well and I have not had a problem with it.

The issue I am having is that my father was a prolific photrographer and used different camera's at different times. His main camera that he used was a Mamiya c 330. He also had a 4x5 view camera that he used quite a bit.

This is where the issue starts. I got that 9000f to scan his photographs. The 9000f comes with film holders for 35mm slides, 35mm film and 120/220 film. The issue is that the scanner did not come with holders for 4x5 film or 120 slides (not to worred about this though).

Having a holder for 4x5 film would be great. Knowing this, I have been on the Canon website looking into support for help. I think I would be better off talking to a pile of rocks. Canon support stinks! Part of the reason for saying that is that I did something stupid and I needed to get the drivers for the scanner again. According to the Canon website, when you try to download the drivers, nothing else is needed like a utility of somesort. When you try to install the drivers though, it will tell you that a certain utility is needed but when you try to get that utility, it is nowhere to be found.

Now, back to the film holder. I am looking for suggestions for a 4x5 film holder. I have seen that Epson has a 4x5 film holder and I have wondered if that could be adapted to be used on a Canon.

Do you think that would work. Also open to other suggestions.

This is just a little story I'm going to tell you. I wrote it out on FB so I am just going to copy from there.

It's finally over.

I know most of you will not know of what I am talking about, but let me tell you of a story that is finally solved.
It started one morning 14 years ago, when I was at Walmart and I find a memory card in the parking lot. I asked at the service desk and in electronics but nobody has reported a lost memory card. So I bring it home.

I put it in my computer to see what was on it. The card had photos and a short video of a new born in a hospital in Icu. I knew the parents would be sad at loosing these photos. I started my search.

Jump to 2015. I was looking through my memory cards to see what was on them. So I looked through this card again. That is when I realized in 2 of the photos, there was a dry wipe board with a name on it. A full name. I had a clue to work with and the baby was a girl.

I found nothing at first.

Then I had a thought. And I was hopping I would find nothing, but I checked for an obituary. Sadly, I found one. I ended up contacting the funeral home but in the end they were not much of help. So that fizzled out.

Ended up putting the memory card away. Everything went into storage.

Jump to October 1st 2022. Me and my youngest son Kyle Edington went over to storage in the afternoon to try and find some things. We found the bookcase I was look for. In the process of looking on the bookcase, I find the memory card. I happen to say to Kyle, "I would like to solve this". Kyle is on a page here on FB that is called The Greenfield Gabber. Kyle found and posted my post from 2015 to the Greenfield Gabber. Now this shows how good FB can be. Within 2 hours of posting my old post, Kyle was texting with the parents of the little girl.

At about 12:30 today, October 2ed, I was able to give the memory card of photos of their little girl that had passed away back to the parents.

I'm not trying to toot my own horn or anything. Just telling the story of a set of photos I found and how I was able to get them back to the parents.

Could also be a battery problem. Not fully charged/third party batteries can do this.

I had my K7 do this one time. Third party battery, not fully charged, camera locked up. changed to a Pentax OEM and no problems. Was not a heat issue. I was shooting at night and it had been raining.

Generally speaking, no you do not need a filter on your lens.

But, depending on what you are shooting, filters come in handy. UV filters, no not really needed. Polarizers, yes, can come in handy on sunny days. ND filters, same thing. Can come in handy depending on subject and day.

Question for owners of flatbed Epson and Canon scanners

I have a CanoScan 9000F mark II and if this endeavor of making holders for the scanners, I would get in line if you could make a holder for 2x2 slides and negatives. My father used a Mamiya C330 for many years. Sadly, because 2x2 holders are not included, I can not scan the slides he shot. Same goes for the 4x5 he also shot.

Realistic photo wish list

In my list, there isn't much.

The main thing I would like to get lens wise is a 70-200 2.8. Sadly, with even used copies for the Pentax going for $1500, it's not going to happen. The good news about that is on the market place, there is a lens that I have been thinking about that I find as an acceptable replacement. It is not a 2.8 lens but a 3.8 lens.

The only other lens I would like to have is a *55 mm. That one though is not a must have. It would be just something to play around with along side my 40xs and my 50 1.8.

Minimum setup advice

Because budget is a concern, I, like a lot of people, are suggesting continuous lights/hot lights. Well, I am going to go one step farther.

Go to wally world, home depot, lowes or your favorite hardware store and get a couple of clip on lamps with a reflector. https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-8-1-2-in-150-Watt-Aluminum-Incandescent-Ligh...7894/202847393 Found in either electrical or tools. Then hit the lightbulb isle and pick up some CPF or Led lightbulbs that are 5600 K. Take them home and clip them onto the back of the dining room chairs and bounce the light off the ceiling or the wall behind you.

You can also get some form core white boards and bounce the light off of them. To do that, you will need a backdrop and reflector holder which sits onto a light stand. https://www.adorama.com/fpxcp200.html?

Hopes this helps. Links are for example only.
