Not Work-Safe Hollywood...1970's

You are wrong. I think most people will see these photographs for what they are, posed portraits of interesting people in an interesting time and place. Most will not color them with their own personal issues as you have. Comparing these photos to child pornography is disgusting and irresponsible. I think you need to take a step back and either just stop posting in this thread or take some time to find a different perspective.

The only thing uncool are your comments. Regardless of your opinions these photos document a point in the lives of these people, and any discussions that arise from them shouldn't be based on condemning the photographer for taking them or putting his work on display here.

Get the K-50 kit with the two zoom lenses. You'll have a complete WR outfit and can add lenses from there.

I actually asked Ken about this, here is his response:

Me:
"The new Ricoh GR does have control dials, one in the front and one in the back.
It has one touch access to everything you need while shooting, including an af mode
switch that you complain is missing from your new beloved nikons."

His response:
"
Those re random dials, not direct marked inputs

Thank you!

Ken

Sent from my Christmas iPad, thanks Santa!"

Wow.

Pentax/Ricoh: De-cripple the K-mount! PETITION

This is a rude and condescending post.

Pentax themselves use the fact that there are millions of used K mount lenses on the market in their advertising. So they are already trumpeting the fact that you are trying to denigrate us with.

As to your other point, many of us, myself included, HAVE examined the usage of our equipment. That's what were talking about here, Not some new-fangled techno gizmo that promises better pictures. This is a simple mechanism that used to be standard and has now been removed. Not having to fuss with EV compensation for every different aperture would make taking photos with these lenses easier and let the user focus on the photo, not on the gear and the workarounds needed to use it.

Like I've said before, Nikon has this on their better DSLRs and I don't hear anyone bitching about being able to use old Nikkor glass on their D200.

Comparing easier use of old lenses to computer geeks boasting about technical specs is disingenuous at best.

This is the type of statement that will continue to fuel the FF discussion. Why would you add this? Pentax said they have no plans for FF now. If they were actually seriously working on it why wouldn't they say they are and that it will be some time before the product is ready? If that is the truth why not say so? Based on their statements I believe they are not seriously working on FF but growing their aps-c market share and will maybe have another K-01 like surprise product next year. Other than Adam's irresponsible claims to tho contrary I don't see any reason to believe we will get a Pentax FF for a few more years.

Everyone who is moaning and whining about FF please just switch to Canon or Nikon or even Sony. You can sell your Pentax gear in the marketplace. Then come back and share your results with us. Continuing to stay and complain is just stupid. Pentax makes great cameras and even with their shortcomings they are loved by many. If you want something Pentax doesn't make, go buy it from someone who does. Life is to short to do anything else.

When do we get built-in GPS, wifi, bluetooth, and cellular data LTE?

I don't want to pay anything for that since I don't mind fiddling with my SD card. It only takes a minute when I get home to open the door on the camera, pull the card out and slide it into my laptop. At some point you're just being lazy. I don't have to fuss with my wifi or bluetooth when I'm out shooting, that's what lets me take more pictures.

I meant when you need to snap a photo and send it to your friends right away, you take and send the photo with your cell phone.

I don't need my camera to do that. There is a reason I can shoot my K10D for hours and hours and hours without changing the battery. The reason is that my K10D is a camera. That's it. It's not a cell phone, it's not a wifi hotspot and it's certainly not a GPS.

DA 55mm review on DXOMark

It seems to me that everyone has jumped to the conclusion that DxOMark is somehow disparaging the lens in some way because it doesn't score highly in their system.

Did anyone read what they actually SAID about it?

"The beauty of bokeh – the aesthetic quality of a blur – is often admired by photographers and image enthusiasts alike. Some images with high bokeh resemble hybrid art – one part impressionist painting, one part photographic genius. These dream-like pictures are largely produced using lenses with really wide apertures, lenses like the Pentax smc DA Star 55mm f/1.4 SDM. Besides producing brilliant bokeh, the Pentax 55mm f/1.4 SDM’s large aperture settings give it an advantage in low light environments. The prime standard lens, which also becomes equivalent to an 82.5mm lens when mounted on an APS-C camera body, would be a great complimenting lens for Pentax portrait photographers."

And in conclusion-

"The Pentax smc DA Star 55mm f/1.4 SDM is a quality lens capable of producing quality images – it would be particularly well suited for portrait photographers who can use the lens’ extremely high aperture to produce compelling and dramatic images. But the lens is not for everyone, especially Pentax users who are on a budget. Fortunately, the camera maker has lower priced alternative lenses capable of creating images with similar results."

This has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative, the poster is just adding his angst toward liberals to anything he disagrees with. I'm a progressive and I think the school is being outrageous.

In reply to LaurenOE again-

Well I'm glad we all don't have to live by your rules. Sadly your reaction to these photos and your assumptions about the lives of the subjects shown in them mirrors the assumptions and negative reactions that they may have had to actually live with in that time and probably still do in some cases.

Remember most others may not see these photos as you do. Just because you don't approve doesn't mean that they don't belong here. When you compared them to child porn you lost any credibility you may have had anyway.
