Hi,
I just sent the lens off to a member as a purchase with a return policy if he can't control the ca. He has a K-5 and I think he'll be happy with how the lens performs. Thanks for the offer though!

I hope everyone at least got a chance to see the film camera shots I took and posted some days ago? Sun came through one second that day for the cat shot.

Yep, I retracted the "No return policy" on this lens. And nope, haven't found a digital yet to take any photo's with. I'm still looking hard though, called the cam-tech shop to see if they had anything out there to test with and they didn't at this time. I just can't afford a good digital right now. No worries, I will at some point get some photo's or have someone "buy it and try it" soon I imagine. Thanks for the interest though!

To clarify: if your not happy with this or any purchase from me, return the lens or other item in same condition as sent and I will refund your purchase price . 380 positive feedbacks on eBay, in that time, three returns and full refunds. (this lens is one) I am working the next few days though at every opportunity I am looking to find anyone to shoot a few photo's with their digital. It will happen

Well, here are a few tries with the older Ricoh XR-M film camera and believe me when I say I'm not much of a photographer. I did try several settings, different distances, no filter in lens, no flash, basicly, I set the ISO to 400 with the non-DX film, the stop to 5.6 sometimes, sometimes not. This whole exercise was just to see how much ca I could come up with this Pentax-A lens on a film camera. (right now, that's all I have in cameras)
Any way, until I can come up with one, (a digital camera) I will continue to shoot with the film camera's that I have and will take much better notes on settings etc.

As soon as I can find a Digital to use with this lens, I will take some photo's for everyone. Having stated that I would not accept a return on this lens again was/is not a sound judgement call. I would myself want to return any item I bought if for some reason if I were not happy with it. I will get the front and rear elements up for viewing. Thanks!

I see a great deal went on with the conversation while I was sleeping.

I use the photo that was sent to me earlier by you eljamopuio, as the example as I sent it to another person well versed in the Pentax field and who shoots with this lens as well with no complaints from you. In using the photo for the interested party recently, I do apologize and should have asked your permission. I sometimes get head of myself. I'm not sure what you mean by "characterizing" you. If you mean that I was talking about you in the 3rd party sense as I believed I was to not mention your name here on this site, then yes I was. I always mention all my buyers on ebay to others as "the buyer" to keep their names out of the limelight so to speak. I did not realize you were on here, again, if your offended, I do apologize. As for Photoshop Lightroom, all I went by was you mentioned to me that I could download a "Free" version of it and try it on the photo's that you took and sent to me to work with. I did not and I also did not look much more into Lighthouse as I have CS2. My short sightedness continues.
I am not upset with you in any way. I'm sure you did what you needed to do. I have the lens, the camera shop said it was fine, I'm happy with that. If the next sale indeed proves the lens has ca that can't be dealt with with whichever camera is used, then I will of course accept the Pentax lens's return.
I hope I have covered my apologies due to you. I will in the future be more considerate to each situation. Thank-you

Hi,
I have not taken any photo's with either a film camera or a digital with this lens. I think though I posted several photo's that the previous buyer sent to me. They are I think on my new member thread. Not sure how to get back there though...

---------- Post added 01-15-12 at 07:49 PM ----------

I just went and looked, I don't see any of the photo's that I had several other members look at. I will try to find them

---------- Post added 01-15-12 at 07:56 PM ----------

Here was one reply from the buyer who sent me back the lens:

Dear iron567,

I've tried some more photos, and they've all shown the same thing.

I've tried other lenses, like the Sigma 500mm f/4.5, and it doesn't have anywhere near the same CA. In fact it has none that I can see.

I've used other lenses that do have some CA (the sigma 150-500, for example) that *are* able to be corrected in post processing.

If you'd like, you can download a copy of Adobe Photoshop lightroom and see if you can correct these problems yourself. I was not able to do so, and this is not the first time I've tried to correct for CA.

I guess the bottom line is that I've tried the lens, I've tried doing what you've recommended, and it really hasn't worked. I'd like to return the lens.

This was one of the reply's to me from the original buyer. "Lightroom" your right. I'm still looking for the photo's for you.

I saw several things wrong with this photo as I'm sure you do as well. This is what the buyer sent me. Had several other photo's as well, of an adobe roof and chimney that didn't show this much ca.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-A 600mm ED (if) lens/case

Asking Price
$2400

Item Location
Bend Oregon (United States)

Item Description
This lens is in VG condition with minor paint loss on barrel. The lens barrel does have some tape on it as you can see for protection I expect. I myself have not taken any photo's on a film/digital camera with this lens. I have however taken this lens to a camera repair / Retail shop and am told this lens is in good working condition. Smooth focus, clean glass inside and out, filter door firm closing and clean. Front pull string cover and end cover with case included. Case is in good condition and provides excellent protection for the lens.

Recently I sold this lens to a buyer who without first finding out that many film camera lenses would have more , in some cases, "Chromatic Aberrations " on a digital camera than the film cameras they were designed for. (predominately purple fringing on photo images). The buyer was, needless to say, unhappy. Relying on a downloaded version of Photoshop "Lighthouse", along with not adjusting the lens at a more moderate setting, the result was that the buyer was unhappy with the purchase and the lens subsequently has been returned. While agreeing that the lenses functions worked well, the buyer thought that something was wrong. Well, nothing is wrong, each lens has its own characteristics and you must learn to deal with it. I'm aware everyone here knows that, I just want to be clear.
Before you purchase this lens, be sure you want it 'cause if you return it out of buyers remorse I'm afraid the restocking fee is going to be....about....$2400. :D
I hope that all of you have something a bit more robust than the free downloadable version of Photoshop "Lighthouse"? If not, get it. Adjust your shooting some, I believe knowing that you will have to work a bit for your excellent photo with this lens your going to be happy with your purchase!

Hey,
Got the 600mm Pentax-A lens back and had taken it to a repair shop for cleaning. Cam-Tec here in Bend OR. After cleaning, I talked with the tech and she gave the Pentax-A 600mm a clean bill of health. I then described the situation of selling the lens , the buyers dissatisfaction of the the higher level of CA in the pictures that the Digital camera that was used showed, the buyers complaints of not being able to "clean up" the purple fringing with Photoshop lighthouse and lens's eventual return. She said: "Its a film camera lens, on digital cameras there is a higher Chromatic Abberations level. Expect that." unquote.
At any rate, I have the lens back. If anyone is interested in the SMC Pentax-A 600mm ED (if) lens with hood and case, prepared and able to deal with the "CA", I'm selling at $2300.00. Paypal is good. I have not taken any digital photo's myself with the lens. I think some of the pictures are still up but I can send you some if you need them. I'm putting this on eBay in a couple days if I don't get a confirmed sale here so please let me know, thanks!

Hey, got the 600mm back from the purchaser who was unable to, with his Photoshop Lighthouse, to remove the CA. Packaging looked good till I got to open the case. Found packing peanuts inside and not the soft closed cell foam layers I wrapped the lens with. Also, peanuts...., well take a look. I will have to find something I can take them out with. Question: could these peanuts scratch the lens here?

Well, I should have the 600mm back in a few days. I'll check it out and shoot some film with it. I know its a digital world and I'll find someone here in Bend OR to go out with I'm sure. I'll post a few photo's and see if I can do better than the fella who purchased the lens from me a month ago. I've got Photoshop 7,9, and cs2 with more upgrades. Probably only need cs2. That works in RAW. I will at some point put the big fella back up for sale so if anyone is interested......? I know that it sold for more the first time but at this point,be around $1900.00.
