Mirror Motor Problems

My K5 is less than 2 years old and back at Pentax repair for mirror motor problem. Purchased 11/2011, it was in shop for jammed mirror 7/2012 - the motor replaced and it worked fine until the middle of a photo shoot (!!!) the end of June. Now, no longer under warranty, am told indeed "the mirror motor has burned out and needs replacing". Is this a common occurrence in the K5? I have searched forums and discovered a couple others who experienced same, had motor replaced and no problems since. Is this the norm? Is there a person I can direct my dissatisfaction to? All I get is the canned customer service response. Is it reasonable to think the motor should have been replaced the first time instead of just repaired?

Four images are barns (or lean tos or tie ups - known by different names) near me. The last two are musical instrument stills.

Looks like some critter had the "Last Supper" - and your image immediately follows a church image. Just struck me. (I can have an odd sense of humor). It is a very poignant shot.

I know it is, but it looks as if it could be a diorama. Like the use of color.

This is a rural road I take frequently because the "scenery" is varied and always changing. This was taken after a light dusting of snow and I "saw" this section in a new way. I've been challenging myself with "line(s) of sight" and saw several "lines" which draw the eye beyond the limit of the image. The effect, I think, is more dramatic in B. and W. I used "Auto Enhance" PP and selected B/W from color presets. Adjusted exposure and Darkened sky upper right.

Shot with K5, 18-55 WR lens, ISO 400, FL 20, f4, 1/4000 Aperture priority

Of course, I didn't bookmark the review that a included the camera software packages :( Never thought I would need it. I was comparing Canon, Nikon and Pentax and a review for either Canon or Nikon specifically stated the systems with which they were compatible and that their software stitched and could do HDR post processing. I wish I could find the review(s). I cannot "layer" in Aperture but can do most everything between Aperture, Piknik etc. I will be looking at "plug ins" for panos and HDR post production. (I know there is HDR in-camera filter and have been fooling with it). May also try GIMP again or one of the photoshop plug ins - my January projects!

I also compared the included software packages when comparing cameras before settling on the K5 (more pros than cons, but software was a con). I agree with your statements. Other "included" software was compatible with more systems and offered more editing possibilities etc. Maybe Pentax will "hear" us and then send packages to us Pentax users?! T'is the season to dream, isn't it?;)

Thanks for the replies - helpful. The K5 has a setting for reducing distortion and lateral chromatic aberrations, but didn't know enough about it to fool with it - yet.

Thank you, Nowhere Matt. I had installed it years ago when I had the K100 and found it awkward to use. Didn't know if it had changed….Aperture processes RAW so I don't need Silky for that. Was hoping maybe Silky had some HDR or panoramic capabilities worth learning.

Wondering if you use the Software that comes with the K5 "SilkyPix" powered. Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4. I use a MAC with latest Aperture and contemplating some plug ins. Before I install, I wondered what others thought of it.

I also have owned K100, K20D and just purchased K5. I use both the K20 and the K5. I find the K5 faster, improved performance at hi ISO, and a quiet shutter. K20 shutter is noisy and sometimes a problem when shooting wildlife, ceremonies etc. Am enjoying the in camera filters. I am glad I've added the K5.
