well, you know that lens cured me of LBA. That focal length is great and I really like using the zoom, but I am mainly shooting equestrian events so the zoom is really useful.
The lens is just super sharp.
Recently I was hired as a second shooter for an Equestrian photographer who was the OP for regional show and the lens performed really well-she was very pleased with the images. One thing that was a small problem for me was the noise. And really that is only because of nervous horses and riders. And only a couple of them. They were a little distracted by the sound. That combined with the shutter on the K-r made me a little a noisier than I would like to be.
So the thing I hear people complain about with the Tamron lens is the AF being a little slow and noisy. The AF is plenty fast for me, but it is audible.
I don't have the other lenses you mention. I think the Tamron lens would be a great choice for Weddings. The focal length would be nice for a lot of the photos. And when I adjust the DOF I get some nice bokeh with it. You certainly can't beat the price on it.

+1 on the Black Rapid. I love mine and love the sliding feature. it makes carrying a heavy lens all day a whole easier.

Oh, I see. Well, I'm sure they will do right by you. Costco is great.

If it were me, I would run out the front door, snatch the package out of the Fed Ex delivery guy's hands and make a mad dash back in the the house where I would immediately set about feverishly ripping the package open. I'd pause, only for a moment to wipe all the drool off the weather resistant body, and then I would unite it with my Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 in holy matrimony. :)
for no man to put asunder..

Yes, I think so too. And I was kinda wondering last night if that was an error on the list of included items. It's a screaming deal even without the WR lens.

I just went back to the Costco ad and it looks like they changed the notation on the lens from what they had on it last night. Rather than listing the WR lens as being included they now have this notation by the lens:

(standard K-30 kit lens, weather-resistant lens not included)

leeak, last night they had the details you posted earlier with the list of what is included and they definitely had the WR lens listed, but it looks like they have corrected it sometime today.

Oh, you know, I am so glad you mentioned that. I ordered these spare batteries because I was hired as a second shooter for the OP at a horse show and I will be flying to the facility. I am trying to organize my bags so I don't have to pay for additional checked baggage, but I might have packed the spare batteries in my luggage. I wasn't aware you have to carry them with you.

Thanks for the heads- up :)

Great. It sounds like they aren't a big risk. They're definitely inexpensive. I got two batteries, a mini charger and a bag for them for 30 bucks. :)

I don't think there is one brick and mortar camera store in the entire state of California that carries the Pentax line. Fry's electronics is the only store I know of that carries Pentax DSLR bodies but they don't really carry the line. The get a few camera bodies in from time to time- sometimes there is a display model, sometimes not. No Pentax accessories except for one lens.

I was in my local CanNikon store some time ago on a day when the Vendor representatives were there all day with tables set up and had all their lenses displayed. They were answering questions and showing people their products. One was a Canon rep and the other was a Third party lens rep. (brand will remain unmentioned here)
Anyway, I had some questions about the lenses and was talking to the third party brand rep when he asked me what I shoot with and when I said Pentax, he said "Oh you shoot with Pentax". And then without hesitation and with the Canon rep standing right next to him and the store personnel within ear shot he said "You know, Pentax makes the best cameras. Hands down. Their product is the best. But they are also the most difficult to deal with. They just really are".

It made me feel a little vindicated in my decision to go with the Pentax system, but I also felt a little sad as well to hear that.

Yes, thank you rawr and I have (c) , but this morning when I posted this thread my body was present and my brain was somewhere else-floating around in the Ether. :D

The lens you have seems similar- Nice color and sharpness in your photos. For a lens with such a long FL and in that price range it's really a good value for the price.

The 70-200mm f/2.8 is such a wonderful lens isn't it? You know, I was looking at the 90mm Macro and ended up getting a used Pentax FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro instead. I can't complain, the FA 100mm macro is a very nice lens but I'll bet I would love that Tamron 90mm as well. :)

OMG-I am just losing it. I am so embarrassed. I have a lot on my mind and wasn't paying attention to what I was typing. I didn't even notice I typed 18.

Anyway yes, thank you again mpmetro.

It is not this one-
Tamron 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 AF XR Di II LD Aspherical IF Macr

It is this one:
Tamron AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 XR Aspherical [IF] MACRO

They both actually have somewhat similar ratings in the review section, but the 28-200 is an older lens.

(EDITED TO CORRECT FL-the lens is the 28-200mm, not the 18-200mm)

I picked this lens up used a week ago. There is a local CanNikon camera shop that always has a box full of used K-mount lenses in excellent condition and I stop by every once and awhile to rummage through it. Anyway, I had my doubts because the reviews on this lens are not all that great at the forum here. But, when I tried it on my camera in the store, I just really liked it, so I thought what the heck it's only $149 bucks and it's a useful walk-around FL.

I'm really pleasantly surprised with this lens. It's sharp and easy to use.

This is the second Tamron lens I have bought; the first being the 70-200mm f/2.8 and I think maybe I am a Tamron fan.

Thanks all,
I just went ahead and ordered a couple via Amazon. I probably should have ordered a couple different brands, but I got a 2-pack.

Hopefully they will be ok. they have an 18mo warranty.

Hello,
Happy Saturday, or Sunday; depending on where you are. :)

Can anyone tell me if they have used third party D-LI109 rechargeable batteries with their K-r?

I'm going on a photo shoot next weekend, need some major back-up and want to know if the third party batteries are reliable to use.

Thanks!

Nice photos and I agree regarding the post processing. With my current lenses, in auto and semi-auto modes, my K-r consistently shoots images just a hair on the under-exposed side. I rarely get an over-exposed image, which is wonderful . I think it is very difficult to correct an over-exposed image in PP; at least I haven't figured out how to do it well .
Since i got Adobe Elements, all I need to do with a photo like the ones you have here is run them through Smart Fix in Elements. One click and it seems to brighten them up just right. I usually have to do little else.

I like your third image the best.
