Slowing liquidating my Pentax gear. It has brought me back to photography, but as a I transition to make photography more of a business, I am likely to change brands in the near future. Pentax K-3 Body Only $400$380 SOLD
This body was purchased on eBay and has under 50 shutter count. It is in like new condition. It comes with only the box, body, battery and body cap, no charger, no documentation. I bought this body to stay with Pentax only to find out I cannot tether the K-3 (USB 3.0) to Lightroom. It is a shame because the body feels great, just like the K-1 but smaller. Rokinon 14mm/2.8 SOLD
This lens was purchased on Pentax forums. The body looks very good, and the glass looks very good as well. There is minimal dust. Comes with Rokinon lens cap and a generic rear cap. No box, no documentation, just the lens and caps. Pentax D-BG6 Grip for K-1 SOLD
This grip was purchased on Amazon. I am the original owner. It is in like new condition. I thought it would get more use, but it did not. It is a solid piece of kit if you need the comfort on portrait orientation grip. Comes with original box and cap.
All prices include shipping to CONUS and are net price to me. If you would like specific pictures, please let me know and I can get those for you.

Just a note to add, portraits can vary from photographer to photographer. I don't think 35mm and 50mm are unsuitable for portraiture, nor do I think do you need an 77mm or 85/1.4. My 28-105 has been a workhorse in the studio (on FF).
That being said I would consider the main use and go that route. I don't think you can go wrong but just do the research including other brands.

I do almost all portraits and I am very happy with the K-1. FF is definitely the way to go and the bang for buck can't be beat with the amazing image quality and megapixels which is very useful for crops.
Regarding lenses, you are lacking in a few AF options but you can get a 35/1.4, 50/1.4, 85/1.4 and and 70-200/2.8 to cover almost all situations. Modern lenses are pushing the envelope as far as even faster glass but the prices are crazy and its really for those razor thin DOF shots that are all over Instagram.
Without getting into a debate on auto focus advances (Eye AF), of course that would be a nice feature to have especially with portraits. But at this point I think it is not enough to get me to jump to another brand.
TL;DR - K-1 for FF, image quality and bang for buck. Lenses might be lacking but barely. AF is also behind but for portraits this is less of an issue. ---------- Post added 12-04-2019 at 11:21 PM ---------- Completely missed the part about the budget so that might negate everything I said [emoji2357]. That being said, for portraits I still consider image quality the most important factor and that is why I am happy with my K-1. All other photography needs I use an Olympus m43 body.

Posts like these really make me think about jumping ship. Would Eye AF (or a different AF system altogether) help my photography? Am I making it harder on myself by using Pentax? I think they are valid questions for a lot of people, but I keep telling myself that if I can't make money with my K-1 and it's incredible image quality, how will changing systems do me any better? I already changed systems Pentax K10d/K20d --> Canon 5DM2 --> Pentax K-1. Changing back to Pentax did reinvigorate my love for photography, but for me I've been better about not chasing gear and just creating images. I would love to see what Pentax does in the next few years with FF and the 645 line.
Glad you are happy with your jump to Sony, keep snapping away!

I had what I felt to be simple repair for my 77. It is being sent to Japan and they expect a 8-10 week turnaround. It seems to be just the way things are with Pentax lens [emoji52]

Thanks, I was hoping someone would know. I've spoken to Precision a couple times and they have been very helpful. I just called them now and you can actually put zeros in the credit card number box. They will charge $35 for diagnostic and quote, if you proceed with repair, the $35 is waived. Hope this helps anyone else.

Online, you can select a product and they charge you an arbitrary amount. Is this just a hold amount and will they give you an updated quote price?

Has anyone had any repair experience with the 77 lens hood? I'm not sure how but my lens hood completely fell out and while it can stay in place it is far from secure. I guess what I'm trying to find out is if anyone has fixed this themselves or had to send it out for repair.

Well I spent quite some time trying to recreate the problem and no issues. I suppose that is a good thing, but then if if pops up again, then it's terrible since I have little warranty time left, but I don't want to be without camera for who knows how long ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks, for the quick reply. I'll probably send mine in since I am under warranty, now I just need to secure a body to use in the meantime... =/

What did Pentax say about the issue. This has happened to me twice on my last two shoots. It only happened in the beginning but it is very annoying.

The joystick alone is reason for me to want this camera. Improved AF, better buffer, USB 3.0 for faster tethering and I might just be on-board for this to go alongside my K-1.

The joystick is probably the thing I miss most about the Canon 5D. The added grip also has a joystick and it just works so well. Not a fan of how to select AF points on K-1 and it's even worse when you use a grip.

Couldn't pass up on an ELB 500 deal so I scooped up an Elinchrom EL-Skyport Transmitter Pro. Everything works exactly as advertised and I'm impressed with the build quality of the ELB unit. Really the price is the worst part about it but I feel good with my purchase and it should last a very long time.

Still waiting on parts for my DFA 28-105 as well. Has been with with Precision for 1.5 months, and before that it was with Advance Camera who had trouble ordering parts from Ricoh.

What are the best options for a 135mm prime with A setting after the A* 135mm? I'm looking for good center sharpness wide open.
