Hey Mike, the shots turned out great. I'm glad you nailed the exposure on the red-winged black bird, the shot turned out fantastic.

Thanks for taking a look Kurt, you are correct, there are very few extra lights in this area as it is a small lake in a remote area, perfect conditions for this type of photography.

Thanks Dave, it seems like every night up there with no cloud cover is a perfect night for seeing all the stars.

No Problem, this place is all about sharing, hope you have some luck with your shots
Thanks for all the info. I had no idea what i captured in the second photo. I will have to try again with a higher ISO to keep the times down.

Thanks for taking a look, yes there are a couple of planes in the first image.
#2 was facing roughly south-west and you are seeing the edge of the Milky Way

I like #4 the best, the flash seems to be the most even of the bunch. The first 3 are pretty good, the only issue I have with them is that it looks like one of your flashes is over powered and shining right in her face giving her a pale washed out look. Maybe if you turned down the power on that unit and diffused it a little they would look better, but thats just my opinion.

Thanks Susan, I'm glad you like them
Thanks once again Jim, I was also supprised to catch this guy seeing as this area is just starting to recover. Also supprised because it was cold that day, close to
-12 Celsius or a little over 10 Fahrenheit for our southern friends.
Thankyou for taking a look

Thanks for the comments Jim
Thanks, all of these shots were hand held, some from the drivers seat of my car which acts as a pretty good blind for birding.

Thanks Pat, after looking at these I realized that I had left the camera in M and not Tv, there is always next time.
Thanks Dave, I like #2 as well, however, this is a pretty large crop as the bird was in the upper right corner of the original frame.
Thanks Jim

Tom you won't be dissappointed making the trip, this is a very accessable location with great possibilities.
To help you and everyone else who might go there I have found that shooting WIDE really works here. (wish I had an even wider lense than the kit) I also shoot using an ND4 filter in Tv @ 1sec. exposure time to get that nice silky look. Next time however I might pick up a GradND so the sky does't blow out so much. Also the best time I have found for shooting these falls is in the late afternoon or on a slightly overcast day.

thank you all for your kind comments, I am glad that they turned out as well as they did. I am planning to go back soon and hopefully there is less green and more of the typical fall colouring to the trees.

It has been really busy at work lately and there hasn't been much time to go out shooting. Luckly the weather on the long weekend was great and i managed to capture these.
and as a last minute decision I snapped this one, I don't know why but I think it turned out pretty good. |

Nice shots Tom, is Gunner a dachshund? My Aunt had a dachshund that wouldnt go camping unless she had her blanket to curl up under, seems to me like Gunner has the same ideas about camping
