So here is where the Pentax shooters hang out

I held out for a long time but finally succumbed to digital. I skipped the entire autofocus film era. Some of the most ugly and passionless cameras were made then in my opinion. Even though I'm shooting digital, I'm still in the habit of carefully setting up, thinking and composing. I totally get "The Zone" that takes a hold of you when you shoot this way. It is The Joy Of Photography. I don't think I can ever lose that.
Film habits die hard. The rare, rare time that I do put the camera on continuous fire, I cringe when it fires a shot more then I intended before I realize that a SD card holds holds hundreds of frames! It's not a winder! To me, the perfect image is still the one that I can download into my computer and don't have to do any manipulating. Just me, the lens and the light. Funny thing though, when I download my photos, I find that the number of shots I've taken often equals a multiple of 36!
Good on you for holding onto film. The images from a modern digital camera remind me of fine grain slide film. Even washes out like slide film. Prints like Cibachrome. They have yet to recreate the subtle, graduated, wide range feel of print film. For that reason, I will also continue to shoot film as well digital. Now I'm thinking they must have a Photoshop filter for that look, but I'm not interested..

Thanks. I'm absolutely sure we're not the only ones from the old school.I have no quams with going full manual on a DSLR to simplify things. Compose, focus, set shutter speed, stop down and expose. Just like its always been. The dial is in a different place and more plasticky though.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! Great to see I'm not the only one who "Gets" the Pentax experience. Back in the day, Pentax, aside from the German brands was THE camera. Canon and Nikon was playing catch-up. Entire generations learned the craft on a Pentax. Ergonomics were the best. The lenses were world class. There was a certain something about using a Pentax that was extremely rewarding.

"Pentax FF Dreamers"

A full frame Pentax DSLR would indeed be a dream come true. I have assembled a healthy collection of old classic lenses over the years that just screams to be used full frame. APS format simply doesn't do them justice. Bordering on insulting their excellence and the engineers that designed them. However, my dream goes beyond just a Full Frame body. I want a Digital back that can be retrofitted to my beloved LX. Does that make me a "Pentax Lunatic?" :D

Hi

I found this site recently and was impressed by the community here enough to join. I'm looking forward to contributing and sharing insights with other users of my preferred gear. I've been a Pentax shooter personally and professionally since the Spotmatic era and watched in frustration as Pentax started it's slow slide into obscurity. I was beginning to think I was the last holdout in a Canon world and it comforts me to know I'm not. Always bittersweet to see a Tak on a Canon Rebel. Great site guys and gals.
