If no tilt screen, hello Sony Mirrorless. and 26mp too low for a 5+ yr wait for a new Flagship APSC , and actually why isn't this mirrorless ,it is the future. The only thing I'd miss is my 60-250 and matched multiplier

listen to Nass he is the Pentax forums macro guru.
for me the 90mm Tamron macro 2.8 is great if I want more reach I add the Pentax 1.4 multiplier. For further away and slightly larger macro shots I will use the 60-250 f4 with 1.4 multiplier but this is a rather pricey setup.

Well that sucks in a major way. It is amazing how fast they can do something like that. Bolt cutters and pry bars can make things go very quick. i would bet they had no idea what they were getting until they were well away from your place. Going forward, as a former LEO, I would advise never leave firearms in a vehicle for very long unless there was no other choice, you can't use them if you don't have them and now they probably have already sold them assuming big city. I certainly wish you well and hope you get your gear back,
and they go away for a long time.

I think you meant condemned their actions. Condoned is to "approve of"

I hope he heals up fast also. And assaulting innocent people is wrong, and he should not have been struck. That said, and not to be construed as my feeling he was deserving of being struck... When I take photos of people I take great care if the person is the" subject" not just a part of the background, to always ask them First. Or to immediately make sure they have no problem with my photographing them. I also offer to send them a copy by email. I have only been asked to delete a shot once, so I did. I have also seen things photographers do that sickens me, and it starts with the attitude that the picture or video is everything and the subjects have no value beyond "the story" or the "Advertisement". I have seen way too many photographs and videos of people and animals in dire straits in need of help or in anguish or pain and the photographer or videographer just keeps on shooting never putting their cameras down, doing NOTHING to help, "after all it's not their job" their job is to report. Simply doing your job is no excuse to ignore the plight of others. I think many photographers need a good dose of etiquette and understanding for other beings, beyond their lens.

I think everyone is sorry it happened. I think some feel they have some sort of god given right to photograph anyone any time under any circumstances- it's free speech after all . Maybe the woman was morning the loss of a loved one you don't know what her circumstances were.. I also see no difference in your posts than Murfy's except you have a different view point you take the paparazzi side. Getting beat up isn't right, nor is his refusal to honor her request. If someone wants to be left alone, leave them alone, don't take their picture. Most people love to have their picture taken so move on make someone happy.

The guy who has issues with getting his camera fixed has gone way beyond the 3 weeks you are talking about. Also he was told by Precision that the part was back ordered, then he contacted Ricoh US who told him they had the parts. He has a legitimate gripe. This really isn't a troll argument a least from my perspective. All he wants, is not to wait months for his camera to be fixed. If you just bought a camera and it broke would you be happy if told "sure we'll get it back to you in a few months due to parts backorders then find out from the manufacturer
there is no BO. I don't know about the video troll but you seem to use the term troll for anyone who is not totally PC. And as far as reaching the Pres of Ricoh he can't get past the first level of customer service. This does not seem like an unreasonable request to me. Most customer service reps will let you at least talk to their supervisor, but apparently not with Ricoh. Some people on this site are trolls in the opposite direction, meaning anything not totally positive or questioning is BAD.

What K1 experience? they haven't even started shipping. And last I checked this whole site was not about the K1, nor was it the K3II a yr ago. Yes it is the hottest topic which is natural. Seems you and I are reading his post in two completely different ways. I read a post from a guy who seems to be getting the run around from two different sides and "assuming his story is true", he is. It should not take months to get something simple fixed. A 30 day turn around from when Precision gets the camera should be plenty of time assuming they can get the parts, which according to him Ricoh says they have. You read his post and say he is a lier. He didn't say he had a problem contacting Ricoh, he said he couldn't get past the first line of customer service and hasn't gotten a response from his email which they said he should send. I'm going to make an assumption and a guess you have a K1 on order and can't sleep at night so it's making you cranky:)

Frankly you are not asking so much though others of weaker character may disagree. You just want your camera back in a reasonable period of time. waiting for months is not reasonable. If Ricoh cannot supply parts they should replace this camera. My advice is to contact Ricoh again be very firm with them that this is not acceptable and they need to get involved to help you and inform them if they can't or won't help you, get your credit card company involved. Also find out the boss of whoever you are talking to and keep escalating until you get satisfaction. Also tell them that the members of Pentax Forums are anxiously waiting to hear how this works out.

I think maybe all of us have gotten away from your original question.
1. am I scared of losing my gear- only when I'm on a trip and would miss out on so many photo ops
2. Have I ever thought I was going to be robbed or do I fear being robbed- no and no. If things seem wrong to me I move on, I don't walk down dark alleys unless I have a reason.
3. I do think about the possibility of theft- YES and do what I can to minimize the chances- first off I never leave my keys in the car. Anything of value goes in the trunk or is covered and out of view.
4. My advice if you catch someone in the act depends on what the situation. First off if you have your phone get pictures of them and their vehicle (if you can) and call 911. Then depending on circumstance there are several different ways you can try to handle it. A. run them off by yelling at them from a distance or blasting an air horn thieves don't like to call attn. to themselves. B. If they ignore you and keep at it then you have some decisions to make- stay where you are or move toward them and make a lot of noise. This depends on what you think their capabilities are what your capabilities are.
Are they armed yes, no, maybe?, are you armed?. There are so many variations on this theme that books have been written about it. I know one poster said your best odds are just to give them your stuff, if confronted with a weapon this is a 50/50 proposition, if they don't have a weapon can you take them out?. Never let them move you to someplace else like into a car of off the trail etc. all they are trying to do is make it easier to kill you this goes double for women. In this case run or fight like hell. If they have a knife it's best not to try to fight them unless you are really well trained (plan on getting cut). If they have a gun run since handguns are really hard to hit anything with unless at very close range. I'll stop here since I could go on for way too long.
My background- former LEO, long time 4th degree martial arts inst. in the art from which the Rangers and Seals hand to hand was developed from, what they are taught is a distilled down to basics, Navy Corpsman during Viet Nam.

Clackers is right about this. Some times even someone really drunk will not be effected as much, but most feel it big time. Wind can be an issue as well as you need to hit them in the face for maximum effect. Another issue is that there are different levels of capsicum in sprays some are very potent some not so much it depends on the brand.

Oh come on you just wanted to show off the pics of your dog. :) He is really great looking though. Also it would be really hard to get him into your pocket :) I have a Black Russian Terrier that stands 30" at the shoulder and weighs 145 lbs. So I know what a great deterrent a big dog can be. Again thanks for sharing the pics

just get photoshop elements and be done with it, then when you feel ready get photoshop cc with lightroom. both come with Adobe camera raw which is considered by most to be the gold standard for raw processing.

Pentax k3 worth upgrade?

I have decided the same thing I won't upgrade until it has a tilt or articulating screen. I hope we don't both grow old waiting for the screen but since my knees which I have spoken of many times recently tell me I must wait ,growing old waiting may just happen but at my age I don't have that long to wait! :)

Pentax k3 III

I think just about everyone here knows this K3III is false.
However- there has recently been a very large drop in the price of the K3II down to $729 from a launch price in the $1,100s. This almost always means a replacement is very close, the same thing happened just before the K3II was released. Based only on this and the fact that the K3II was only a minor upgrade from the K3. I believe a new top of the line APS-C is close as well as obviously the new FF K -- whatever. For me I would be very pleased if they put a articulating screen on the back, upgraded the autofocus and the video. I really would like the see the pop up flash back but I doubt that will happen. I would get more use from the PUF and very little from GPS but I know many have needs that are just the opposite.

This looks like my wish list but "if true" I don't understand the various crop modes since it's already a 1.5 crop, birding maybe??. also all the different video modes (frame rates) seem over the top. I get 24,30,60 but beyond that I don't know what you'd do with them. Also the price seems way high, I could see $1500ish, but for $2200-$2400 Not when there are others out there with close specs that go for much less.
