K33 - Video Crop test / Photo size > HD > 4K

pentax k-3 iii horizontal pixel is 6192px,

so 4k horizontal data is from 6192 / 23.3 * 17.5 = 4650px, maybe they super sample into 4k horizontal pixels 3840px.

and crop factor is 36/17.5 = 2.05x, not bad, so 11mm on 4k is about 22mm, still wide enough, for those with 12-24, still 24mm wide.

(my K-1 also have about 1.1x crop factor for FHD video, K-3 has 1.1x on top its 1.5x crop =1.65x in FHD video )

video is using phase detection method or contrast based method?

any hunting in AFC in video, mainly for 55-300 PLM, if it is afc in correct direction, mostly a phase detection method, (which means the sensor has dual pixel AF like design, like sony canon, means sensor has phase detection built in, which also can be tested in live method photo focus)

if it is contast based, most likely the sensor design is like Panasonic like, as panasonic has contrast based design only, while they did try best to use DFD AI method to improve contrast based AF.

FF: Will there be an aperture / stop down coupler?

Ok, after reading 5 pages of opinions,

Here are what I get,

1. People want aperture level coupler, because they want "fast action shootig with their K M series lens", without need use of green button.

My thought is that How fast can you go with a manual focus lens, and How fast you can get accurate focus with manual focus lens, a button click not making any addition to already slow pace of manual focus lens.

Since dslr viewfinder are not good for fast accurate focusing, even u are fast at manual focus, today 24MP sensor will show up any little misfocus.

Forget fast action with manual lens. That is why they made dfa 70-200.

2. Ok, if you are at god speed and eye accuracy with K M lens, are they really the best among K M A F FA DFA lines.

Just for sake of K series and M series, the best K M lens are already replaced by A lens in film age, which no need green button already.

So get those A * lens instead of the cheaper K M version, they are best pentax manual focus lens.

K50 f1.2 replaced by A 50 f1.2, M* 300 f4 replaced by A300 f4 and A*300 f2.8 and so on.

So, for those asking for aperture coupler,

Naming a K series or M series lens that worth the effort.

3. Of course, someone would say, "all my k m lens are best pentax lens, like M 200mm f4, i like the render, and i care that that 1 sec green button click after focusing for 1min, because i am perfectionist."

Ok, same as I do, I use k m series all the way to the best with matte focus screen, and tired of inaccurate green button meter,

So my solution is shoot all manual mode, forget those metering process, if you already a hardcore pentax user,

You should learn shooting with manual aperture, manual shutter, iso fixed like those no-battery k1000 or mx slrs.

People old days shoot all day long without meter, and still get perfect photo with manual focus sunny 16 rules.

So shoot all manual and remember ev number of commom lighting condition. You dont have to green button if you confident your setting is all right.

4. ok, so relax, K M series are good memory of past, even the slightly more modern film lens, like F lens, FA lens, may not good enough on the coming Full Frame pentax DSLR, because of purple fringes, maybe except FA* lineups

Manual lens are good for sunny afternoon walk, but they are too old to try to do things today's young people doing,

let them enjoy retirement, let the young carry it on. use the green button, it is just like wheel chairs that help the elderly move around, or don't use it and just walk if you can manage move around without.

FF GR is very much possible.

I doubt it is neccessory to go for full frame GR.

since full frame did not give much advantage for a compact wide angle camera.

I think GR with K-3 24MP sensor and a 21mm "equivalent" lens is more likely to happen than full frame GR with 28mm lens.

so they can still get like 16MP in 28mm mode with 21mm "equivalent" lens

I tried the ks1 on hand, the grip is hard to grip, even from a k01 user.

The mode dial is too big change, may only appeal to compact camera users.

Other than handling, it is fine camera, and how bad is original a7 grip

Trying to decide KX, KR, K7?

Kx has served me 2 years, it is quite good at recording the image,

as cameras are updated every year, the lens always stays.

so, I recommend Kx, and use the rest cash to get some good cheap manual primes like 28mm and 50mm.

here is my manual lens with my kx, I have changed the focus screen, without focusing screen, get 200mm manually in focus is quite difficult in viewfinder,

also because kx has lower resolution LCD, it is tricky to check in focus with live view in bright sunlight as well.

now you got a true full frame mirrorless camera - Leica M, with live view, (M9 no live view);

means, you can get a PK to M adapter, like whose used on GXR m module, to enjoy full frame old manual pentax lens.

also any other SLR lens with adapters, but 8000 usd is pricy, unless Sony gives a another compact mirrorless full frame choices.

thanks for the info, I have being digging the macro magnification formula for quite a bit time, I have not found any equation about reversed method,

generally I only found the extension equation and close-up filter equation.

yeah, the setup is more an experiment, practically it won't work so well, as the view finder is so dark, like switching off lights in evening in your bedroom.

I have a Vivitar 90mm f2.8 macro, good for running out and chasing for ant,

My shot of Singapore crazy ant: with Pentax Kx on a cloudy day.

The Macro lens + extension tube + DCR-250 macro filter combo is more practical to go, but after I got the DCR-250 macro filter, I will try. My macro wiki page: artwiki:photowiki:macrophoto [ShiningWiki]

but I am impressed when I saw some one use M 28mm f2.8 revsered mount on 60 extension tube for beautiful macro shots.
this video inspires me to do this test:

finally got updated on the profile page. Vivitar 19-35 f3.5-4.5; M 50 f1.4, Vivitar 90 f2.8 macro, M 135 f3.5, Tokina 400 f5.6, and other not often used lenses

Test 4: Double reversed lens combo + extension tube (all the methods I know used)

Setup: DAL18-55 revesed mounted on M 135 mm f3.5 and then onto 60mm extension tube,

to help the extreme dark viewfinder to focus, I use a light to shine through it, cast a light spot shape to move in and back to determine in-focus distance.

DAL 18-55 tune at 55mm end

DAL 18-55 tune at 18mm end

2mm shown up on 24mm width DSLR sensor, so 24:2 = 12:1 super macro now, (sorry for the long thread to get this part)

Conclusion:

Revsered mounted wide angle lens works like a macro adapter lens (like Ranyox 250), give good working distance and still produce big macro result.

Cheers. thanks for viewing.

Test 3: The double combo. Reversed mount + Extension Tube

50mm prime normal mounted on a 60mm extension tube:

roughly 1:1,

50mm prime reversed mounted on a 60mm extension tube:

about 2:1 now, seems lens reversed give better magnification than normal mount.

Conclusion:

reversed mount will give you extra magnification,

more a experiment like approach than a math approach.
