That makes sense! ---------- Post added 11-23-15 at 01:03 PM ---------- Hi folks
Thank you for all your constructive advices. I think I have to give up the idea of using pixel shift at the current stage. As far as I know the current Pentax's pixel shift system doesn't work well. It takes 2-3 seconds rather than the desired, say 1/100s (4 x 1/400s) for a typical shoot. Pentax said in an interview that the coming full frame will have a more powerful pixel shift system onboard. I can wait for another half a year.
I won't take out the surveying tripod for a photograph. It is too heavy!
So what I am going to do is
1) watch over the American Black Friday to see if I can import a 1544T or 1545T or 2542T. Otherwise buy one from local stores. The tripod can be used for many years so I wouldn't mind paying more.
2) buy a 16-85 lens for travelling. This lens will still be usefull even if I have a full frame next year .
Thanks again for your input.

Thank you for you tips. Really helpful.
I will select one from 1544T or 2541. No other models. They are $800 in Australia and I think I can afford one. I am more happier with 2542T (tried it in store) however its price is horrible in Australia.
The only purpose I will be using a tripod is for landscape. But I don't like the exaggrated effect by super wide lens. The long focal length > 200 equivlent is also rarely used.
I would like to know if 1544T is stable enough for pixel shift. If it is YES I will go with 1544T otherwise 2541.
You said that "A CPL will not uniformly apply its polarization on focal lengths wider than about the mid 20mm". Is it 20mm equivlent or 20mm APS-C?
Many thanks again

I am a surveyor :D:D
if I am going to use a total station I would select a wooden tripod.
If it is just an automatic level then a very light aluminum is enough.

Your input makes me more inclined to 2541.
Are you going to buy another tripod to realise the pixel shift? :D

Hi Pentax enthusiasts,
I am planning a trip from Melbourne to Adelaide to ULuru in Australia. I going to buy K3 II + 16-85 + cpl + filters for landscape.
I am hesitating between GT1544T and GT2541. The former is much lighter and portable. But I am not sure if it handles the pixel shift function of K3 II in windy conditions. The latter is also much longer and cannot be put in my bag.
Can you please give me some suggestions?
Thank you.

what's wrong with your K-R+18-55?? Optically I guess it's almost the same with K30+18-135. Why not spend the $1200 to get something else? portable DA21, portable professional DC, water-proof DC (like TG-1), speakers, anything..

"As for image quality, the K-30 is about on par to K-5, which is to be expected because the image sensor is very similar to the one in that camera. In fact, the K-30's sensor is exactly the same as the one in the new, Marc Newsom-designed Pentax K-01 compact system camera, which is a tweaked version of the chip in the K-5."
I'm worried that the sensor is of lower ISO performance by one stop compared with K5, according to the samples from other sources.

The potential FF will difinitely disturb the balance of current DLSR market. It makes sense to wait for a not-so-expensive K5 successor. Really appreciate that.

North America is pentax's conventional most important market, while China is the last place been paid attention to. If you live in cities other than Shanghai,Beijing or Hongkong, you don't even know where to buy the pentax items. If your pentax camera has issues, you have to ship it to Penax Shanghai then wait for THREE month to get fixed.
By the way, why recent prices of pentax lenses are so crazy?

which colour do you prefer? I like the silver one which is supposed "limited" on K-5.
