This is probably my favorite of many pictures of my beautiful girl, Ilsa. Her eyes embody everything we love about the German Shepherd Dog; intensity, strength, loyalty, fearlessness, calmness. Ilsa had all of these things and more. She will always be loved and greatly missed.

This photo is a change of pace from the normally sun-drenched Sicilian coast. The beach resort town of Lido Rossello on the southern coast can be seen in the distance as the dark clouds roll in.

The place is Gibellina, Sicily; a town that was destroyed by earthquake in 1968. The people abandoned it and built a new town several kilometers away. Photo shows several different forms of art. The first in the foreground is Il Cretto di Burri. Artist Alberto Burri created a huge piece of landscape art by burying the abandoned town in concrete about 5 feet thick while preserving the streetscape of the town. The second is the street art in the background. There was no graffiti that I saw defacing Il Cretto but some nearby buildings that were partially standing were used as canvasses by street artists. The loose translation of the text on the man's hat is: "What would man be without the fresh breath of art." The third is the scene that I chose to show from my perspective. A man peering almost voyeur-like into Burri's Il Cretto. I really like this photo and I hope you do too.

Enzo a Mare is a wonderful fresh seafood restaurant located on the beach in the small town of Punta Secca, Sicily. It is regularly featured in the Sicilian television series, "Inspector Montalbano". It is one of Commissario Salvo Montalbano's favorite places to eat, usually with a beautiful woman. My wife and I enjoyed a great lunch here where we met a nice couple from Great Britain who were also fans of the series.

Sampieri is a small beach town on the southern coast of Sicily. Here I found this fisherman mending his nets after a morning on the water.

The Piazza della Republica in Ragusa Ibla is a favorite gathering place for the pensionati (retired guys) to pass the time.My wife and I walked through this piazza many times and they were always there.

Last year my wife and I vacationed in Sicily for one month. This photo was taken from the church of Sana Maria della Scale (St. Mary of the Steps). It is aptly named as one needs to climb a few hundred steps to get to this vantage point. The city of Ragusa Ibla is beautiful by night.

It was a beautiful, clear and very cold night. I was able to spot the comet with binoculars. Had a tough time locating it in the viewfinder and even after finding it this was the best I could do with no special tracking equipment. If I get another clear night I'll bump up the ISO to 2000 with a 5 second exposure and see what I get.

Ilsa is a great model. She's very directable; look this way, no a little more to the left, hold it right there... perfect!

Earlier this year a mantis case hatched and there was an army of .25 inch (6mm) critters running around. Spotted this guy a few weeks ago on a low bush. He gave me enough time to grab my tripod, set up and snap a few shots.

My wife found this happily munching on our tomato plant. We recycled it into the food chain. Let's just say "It sleeps with the fishes".

It's a very nice product indeed. Purposely shot at ISO 2000 to see if I could get something decent. Used PSP X6 RAW converter and Topaz Denoise.

I know that a laptop is not going to have the optimal display for photo editing but I need some input on which of the following 2 displays on the HP Envy laptop platform would be better, overall:
1. 15.6 inch, 1920x1080 (smaller but higher resolution and more generous viewing angles)
2. 17.3 inch, 1600x900 (larger but lower resolution and more sensitive to viewing angle)
Cost difference is not relevant.
Your input, experience, and opinions are appreciated. Thank you.

She was black as the night. The snow was whiter than white. These were some tough shooting conditions. Only a few keepers and this is probably the best.

Some geese enjoying a morning on the water. Despite the long stretch of low temperatures the creek isn't frozen, just slushy. The geese don't seem to mind.

I don't think this has much chance against some of the entries. But it is certainly on topic.
