Some Masked Lapwings with the 60B today. These are usually just called Plovers here, either Spur-winged or Masked. First is a mature bird. The others are a juvenile, acting tough! They have a real attitude!! Jpegs straight from the K10D.

No, it is not normal, at least on my cameras.

Which camera body are you using?

What does it show in the viewfinder and top screen, F_ _ _ or something else?

Some really nice images here everyone!

Some flowers and sunsets from my K10D.

Neglecting this little one of late. Neighbor (temporarily) stole my DA16-45 (with istDL attached), so I'm getting to know this better.

Always nice colours and it can be as sharp as the proverbial. Appreciating it more over the zoom now, for this focal length. Easy and fun lens.

Managed to pick up the camera today, been awhile. White Faced Heron, seems to like our place the last few days. 60B 300/2.8 + 140F TC, handheld. Another dull grey day! Jpegs from K10D + some basic pp. Some pf here and there, made no attempt to fix this.

Thanks Dave!

The 72B is amazing, very flexible and super sharp. I love my 52BB too but it seldom goes on the camera now.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks very much Jean.

The wife tells me it's called Queen of The Night. Flowers about every two years here. We have had it for about ten years and seen this event four times now. Missed it the first time, It happens so fast. it's like watching time lapse. The plant itself is very mundane, just a green spikey stick really.

Various tamperings in pp. Used some LED floodlighting and onboard flash in some. Sorry for the rubbish in the background. I have some other nice ones but with the DA35/2.4 so not eligible here.

Wonderful capture!

I struggle hand holding my 60B sometimes, let alone with a tc and in a car as well. Well done!

They are all original caps that shipped with adaptall lenses, although maybe not these specific ones.

There are two different types as you can see. The double wall type also protects the mounting flange of the lens, the single wall type covers only the internals. I don't know the significance, if any, of the different types. Someone else here may know though?. Both types fit any and all adaptalls that I have tried them on so far. They are the same dimensions from mating surface to the end and they have the same internal size.

I have a few that stay on my special lenses when stored without an adapter and some others that stay handy for use when I want extra rear element protection or support for photographing lenses. I suppose that they get lost over the years, as most of my lenes came without one. Most people would have removed it when they fitted the original adapter from new, which then probably stayed on that lens until sold.

A few favorites from the 23A. Tawny Frogmouths, doing what they do in the daytime, sleeping. Or they would be if someone wasn't disturbing them all the time!

Excellent waterfall WillH! Well worth the walk I would think.

My favorite 23A never gets far away. I have some great bird shots from it. Nothing recent though. Been bird shooting mostly in poor light lately so the 60B has been the tool of choice.

I must admit to feeling a bit self conscious carrying the 60B sometimes! I had one guy, driving toward me, slam on his brakes and stare open mouthed at me, stopped in the middle of the road! I was trying to shoot birds at a local lighthouse at the time, I'm sure he thought I had a rocket launcher or something!

Other times, I am making a statement about my manhood!:D

Cheers,

Nice shots!

My 03B seems to have a problem, soft and odd exposures sometimes. My adaptall 1 135mm@2.8 (CT-135) is really nice though! Can't find an example ATM but I remember getting the round circles with it as well. They both flare a bit but I can't recall having PF annoyances with either.

My pleasure Hin.

Yes they are about equal at minimum length. The 09A@303.8g, is also just over 60 grams lighter than the 13A@366.2g and 01A@368.8g. The 27A is 470.3g. These are my actual measurements of my naked lenses i.e. without mounts or caps etc.

Cheers.

Yes, I thought the 23A was an ok lens at 300, until I got the 60B a few months ago. The 60B is my first real fast tele prime and it has changed the way I think about all my lenses. I think I may thin the herd soon and only the fast ones will stay, but I will definitely keep watching for a 30A and 63B that are affordable. Then again if I was to get a K5, the slow lenses might make a come back!:D

Nice images WillH! Summer arriving here and even the grass is flowering!

I will swap my good 19AH, plus another one with bad fungus for spares, for your 30A !

Seriously though, the 30A and 63B are two important adaptalls that have eluded me so far. A few others I have given up on as they are getting beyond my idea of sensible value for money, 31A and 06B for instance.

Unfortunately, this years lens budget is trashed after 60B, 55B, 72B and 01BB, plus DA35 plus almost 1K on Nikon lenses for the wife to ensure domestic harmony, all in the last few months! Was planning to get a K5 this year, oh well, next year.

Cheers.

MAX and MIN sizes of the 27A, 01A,13A and 09A. Sorry for the poor quality, I threw my 24mm 01BB on and forgot to reset the SR so the EXIF says 70mm!

Nice pics Hin. I have also now had a chance to read some of your blogs, very thoughtful work you do. Hope you enjoy your new 01A!

I found another contender I had forgotten I had. The 35-70@3.5-4.5, 09A. It's just like a mini 01A! I had not tried it as my copy has mechanical issues similar but worse than my 01A and something loose inside! Anyway it surprised me to say the least! According to the adaptall.org site the later 17A is the same as well as having constant f3.5. I will try one when I get a chance. The 09A and 17A sell for peanuts!

A couple of quick shots at max magnification and minimum focusing distance, EV is a bit awful as I was chasing them around the place, but they get the message across I think. It gets a bit closer than the 01A even! First is full size, The second is about 100% crop and the third is 100% crop of another.

If you want close up performance at 80 mm, then the SP 28-80, f1:3.5-4.2, 27A is pretty good as well. The smaller maximum aperture of the 27A is noticeable when focusing but not in the close-up shots really. The 27A does not do continuous focusing like the 01A, although my 01A has issues with binding if I try, this is common apparently. The 27A does not get quite as close or as high a magnification. The 27A feels fantastic in use!

The 27A is probably superior as a tele and at the wide end of the zoom, at least with my copies, I will test them back to back if I get a chance. The 27A sells for a relative song as it has not acquired cult status.

For real close up performance at 80 mm you should really be looking for a 52B (I've not tried) or 52BB (good) or a 72B (better) all of which will be better (IMHO) than the 01A for close stuff or 80-90mm tele use.

For the wide end, I might choose the SP 24-48 mm, f1:3.5-3.8, 13A, over the 01A or 27A. Not for close focus though. Not sure about this one yet, need to test more. Too many other great lenses in this range for it to get a chance ATM.

Some pics from my 01A, 27A and 72B. The flower is only about 5 mm across the centre. The lighting changed and the flowers started to close towards the end. Cropped to the flower, so different for each lens, the last one is about 100% crop from the 72B already at 1:1.

Sorry none for sale myself.
