Hi, Thanks for the additional responses. I'm 99.99% sure its the Camera body that has issues. I have tried an old Cosina Manual Focus 100-500mm lens with the camera fixed on a tripod and manually focused on a subject and got the focus beep then took the shot with a 2 second wait after releasing the shutter. I then swapped the lens over to the Olympus and did exactly the same process the Olympus image is sharp, clear and correctly exposed whereas it's hard to figure out where the plane of focus is on the image taken by the Pentax camera. I though I had issues earlier in the year with my 16-45mm f4 lens not giving sharp images so sold the lens for a 1/4 of the price it should have gone for. Then have more or less identical issues now. I have tried the AF micro adjustments option deep within the settings and bought one of those lens calibrator cards I had to adjust the settings from default to +10 on most of my lenses but still can't get good images when using my long lenses.

If the long lens produces good images on an Olympus with an adapter and I focus manually until the image appears sharp in the view finder and get a good image and then put the same lens on the Pentax K5 I have and take an image knowing that the subject is sharp in the viewfinder at the point of pressing the shutter button and then repeat the process using the live view mode and still don't get a sharp image then I think 99.99% there is a fault with my camera.

I'm seriously thinking of buying either a K3ii or the KP, so will have a chat with the Pentax team at the Digital Splash show on Sunday.

Hello,

Thanks for the comments and suggestions so far it's been good to gauge other Pentax users opinions. I live in Manchester (UK) and there is a Photo show in Liverpool called Digital Splash and Pentax are exhibiting so will see and hopefully try and get my hands on the current Pentax kit. I might take the Sigma 170-500mm lens with me and see if they let me attach it to one of there display cameras to try and see what it handles like. I am after buying ASAP. My K5 has focusing issues and using the 170-500mm and capturing a sharp image is a nightmare. I have put the same lens with an adapter on an Olympus EM-5 that I bought and get clear, well exposed images. So the Pentax K5 I have as a focusing issue. So can't really wait for a K3ii upgrade so it's decision time this weekend! It would be good to try the lens on a KP, I assume this would work similar to the Olympus EM-5 in that it has an electronic viewfinder so displays a quick review of the image as a preview after each shot, which is a feature I like on the olympus when using the electronic viewfinder. The only downsides of the Olympus is that it constantly hunts in auto-focus mode when trying to focus on moving images such as a bird in the sky and to change the ISO, white balance, metering etc it's all done through software which is a slight negative but hey we can't have everything! I will have a review of some online reviews of the current Pantax kit and will be prepared for when I attend the show this weekend.

Hello,

I have a Pentax K5 which appears to have focusing issues, so I am looking to upgrade my camera soon. I have a keen interest in Nature and Wildlife photography and would like to know which 'newer' model camera members think would best suit my requirements. I mainly use my Pentax f2.8 100mm Macro Lens and a Sigma 170-500mm DG lens when out shooting wildlife (Insects, Butterflies, Birds, Deer etc).

So which camera would you recommend?

I was thinking of one of the following: K70, K3II or possibly the KP.

Best Regards,

Paul

Thank you for responding to my enquiry and for pointing me in the direction of both lens reviews.

I will certainly find my local Pentax dealer and will enquire about the Pentax lens rather than that particular Sigma lens.

Best Regards,

Pentax or Sigma? which is best??

Hello,

I'm new to this forum so first I will introduce myself quickly then I'll ask the question.

I live in Manchester (UK) and own a Pentax K10D with several used secondhand lens. I know there's nothing wrong with buying second hand lens, but I would love to buy a new lens and can't decide which to spend my hard earned cash on.

I am looking to buy a new wide angle/ short range zoom lens in the region of 18-125mm for general purpose use (e.g. Buildings, landscapes etc).

i have noticed that both Pentax and Sigma have a lens which covers the zone that I would like to cover. But which is best?

Do I buy a Pentax lens to match the brand of my camera or do I go to one of the 3rd party lens companies such as sigma?

What are the pros / cons of both...

Your answers on a postcard please.

Best Regards,

PAO72
