Like Racer suggested, wide angle and get close.. A couple of alternate (or additional) methods I use is long exposure (note the feet under the front of the bus.) but this method requires carrying a tripod.

Another useful method to to defeat the photobombers is to shoot the rear half of the car when everybody is studying the motor. When the crowd moves to the the rear of the car shoot the front and then stitch the two images together.
