I always thought hummingbirds went south for the winter. One year I forgot to take down the hummingbird feeder and one snowy day I saw one at the feeder. I quickly filled the feeder and since then every year about Christmas time they return.There's at least four. They'll stay until about October and then disappear for a couple of months. Fire towers are great for night photography. You're above the trees. They're remote from city lights, and there's usually not much traffic or people wandering about. Out west the towers would be occupied (by fire spotters) through the summer months so they were, relatively speaking, pretty comfortable. Fire spotter was a good job for people who liked solitude.
