An old abandoned garage from QLD Australia. I capture these whenever I come across them.

Picked up Ikea batteries so at least I can eliminate that as an issue.

I’ll try moving it a little backwards and the battery door as well. I knew the battery door was an issue on the old 360, luckily mine didn’t. Might be able to get my old flash operational or get a replacement foot to do me until I sort this issue out. Got this one on Facebook so not much help available. I’ve had a really good run with second hand gear so can’t really complain.

Thanks for the replies.
Have cleaned the contacts, all good there. It does the same thing in wireless though as well.
I’ll grab some Ikea batteries today, one thing I didn’t know was they are the best!
I thought about over heating but no heat on it and it doesn’t even fire enough to get hot.
I will double check the flash symbol, I haven’t been religiously looking for it but have seen it in the viewfinder. Good point.
Just checked the older ringflash on market place. One issue with the Metz was it was too heavy for the 100 macro and that lens doesn’t have an internal focusing motor, so would put strain on the lens while focusing, even with manual focus. I saw someone else had asked about compatibility too so I’ll do some more reading on it. From what I understand the af 160 didn’t have this problem with the 100 macro.
I’ll try the seller but not getting my hopes up for. Looks like there is a flat rate of $195 to check the flash from our authorised Richo repairers might not be worth it.

The reviews I'd read were positive and I like the metal foot and swivel head. Since another one will be near $500 I'll explore the repair option then go from there. I have a K1 on order so will have another body to test it on. But can't see how this is normal functioning at all. I don't think the seller will be interested in a refund sadly. The downside of buying second hand. It test fired ok for a bit when I picked it up but didn't take it out on camera until I got it home. ---------- Post added 01-20-21 at 08:46 PM ---------- Can't get the Sigma ringflash either now. The Metz isn't suitable for the DA 100 macro so had to send that back (ordered new). I have looked at the Godox system when looking for triggers so it's on my list. My only hesitation with repair is if I send it away and the error reoccurs, money that could have gone to a new flash. The downside of Pentax, not as many repair options.

Brief back story - got a new DA 100mm Macro (yay), took it out with my K3 and AF 360 fgz just on hotshoe. Put on Rapid strap, but it unscrewed and everything hit the ground (very sad). Flash footing broken though electronics still working. Body and lens ok, though slight dent on lens.
Bought a second hand AF 360 fgz 11 as I didn't know if my flash could be saved. I cannot get it to fire consistently.
Things I have tried;
K3 in manual, flash PTTL on hot shoe
K3 in manual, flash in manual on hotshoe
K3 as controller and flash off camera in slave mode
Fresh batteries in flash
Trying flash on a different body and different lens
Different shutter and aperture combos, varying flash power in all modes, all sync modes
LED beam on and off
Leaving flash up to 20 seconds between taking shots
Checking it's tight on hotshoe
With and without diffusers
The flash often won't fire, or if it does not enough power output. Sometimes it will fire for four shots without changing settings or subject and then give up. There is no reason I can see other than it just stops communicating with whatever body it is on.
I have a manual, I have even made my own set of printed instructions for each shooting scenario so I can make sure I am getting the settings right. When it does work it's great, but lucky to get one third of the shots usable. I didn't try my old flash with the macro but never had an issue with it like this so inclined to think the flash is faulty. It was a second hand flash so no warranty.
From reading other peoples' experiences looks like it's not working. Is it worth the expense of getting it checked or just go with another system or a 560? Cannot source a Pentax ringflash which was my preference so having to rely on a speedlight.
Suggestions?

Thanks to AdrianM I saw the rogue safari in action and was impressed. About to glue the spacer to the base, I assume best method is to just put a drop of superglue on either side of the bit where you slide it though?

I'll also be under utilising the features until I read the manual! I am currently spot focus and back button focusing but will be reading the manual shortly to make sure I'm getting the most of my K3.

OMG, first proper workout today and now I realise how much like a toy my K7 was. I haven't edited anything yet just a quick look but what a difference. AF is snappy and I can get birds in flight and the noise handling is just brilliant.

It's more than one yay when you are Kermit flailing and very excited  I've put off trying it until I make sure my lenses are spotless as I can't seem to keep the dust bunnies out of my K7, as soon as I clean them off and have a clean sensor they return! I'll report back when I have a test run.

Having lived in SA (the wilderness) I think I can safely say it's the Adelaidians that are the odd ones out  So far I've only updated the firmware and changed as many settings that I can find and will take the beast for a test run tomorrow or Tuesday. I think I've found where they are hidden in menu items.
