This calm lasted for about 3 minutes until the wind picked up again.

Having some fun with my dad and an old Halloween costume in the park. The light was interesting so there is no manipulation to the colours besides white balance.

I have both the 645D and the 645Z as well as the Sony a7R and a7R III and I still can do more with the files and trust the pentax systems over the sony's. Unfortunately the lenses besides a few are from another era and diminish the systems quality potential. A modern zoom (200 or 300), a 85mm or similar for portraits (the 150mm is to vintage now) and a higher end version of the 55m would be good. If they do come up with a 100mp crop sensor most of the current lenses won't hold up at all.

If there is anyone in the Toronto area that has a good setup to do this (the the proper test charts) I can bring both the 645D and 645Z to shoot the charts that Anders could use for (hopefully) creating a dual illuminant profile for the community.

I have posted this to the 645z Facebook group, but posting here as well. I have not had the chance to do full size prints from the 645z until now, and comparing them to my 645D prints, I must say that the extra bit of resolution helps with fine textures in the images, not like the 645D is a slouch in this regard when properly focused. The camera profiles I have used are curtesy of torger. |

I decided to stick with the pentax system for a while longer, and upgraded my 645D to the Z. It arrived just in time for the weekend and I had a chance to shoot a few test images. I don't regret the purchase one bit and I'm loving the camera even more than I did the 645D. The live view and high ISO are game changers. Now I need to find some sherpas that will agree to lug this baby up to some higher altitudes.

It was exposure that I adjusted (made the white whiter and the black darker). The color or white balance in this case was not tweaked.

I have used the 645D since 2011 and the main reasons I want to upgrade to the 645Z is the live view, improved dynamic range and to a lesser degree the high ISO options. The biggest culprit to missing images on the 645D is the autofocus. The unreliability in getting 100% perfect auto focus is also the reason the shutter actuations get used up as quick as they do. I typically have to shoot 2 or 3 frames to be "safe" that one of them is sharp. This is especially true for the 25mm DA lens at certain distances. I print large (see below), so every little focussing error shows up.
Outside of that, I think at base ISO, on most scenes the differences between the Z and D will be minimal. The body has a proven form factor, is very reliable, and I trust it over my A7r which died on me in Antarctica after less than two months of use. The files out of the 645D are a lot more stable when doing lightroom adjustments than the sony files. Things like the occasional banding and purple rings on overcast skies is what makes the compressed, pre-cooked raw files out of the sony less than ideal in large prints. What Pentax really needs is more lenses that are in the class of the 90mm 2.8. |

I'm re posting a section of a post (with samples) I made on another forum regarding a pentax lens question. I happen to own both of the ones you are asking about. The forum scales the images down so open them directly.
SMC Pentax-FA 645 120mm F4 Macro, Also very sharp (sometimes to sharp for portraits) and useful for many applications. I sometimes find the bokeh to be funky looking at some distances but generally this does not happen often. Some samples below, the one with the butterfly on the statue shows the bokeh issue I'm talking about.
SMC Pentax-FA 645 150mm F2.8 [IF], Nice lens for portraits, it's low contrast yet still sharp wide open, has a bit of a build in pro mist filter look at 2.8 but becomes very sharp at f 5.6 and higher. |

I'm a MFT and Pentax 645D user but have recently acquired this little camera that I find pretty interesting. I did a short writeup on my impressions of it. Hope someone finds it useful. Sigma DP Merrill review |
