It arrived late yesterday. It's a beautiful lens.
I don't know how to work it yet. lol
Good indications so far though. The lens is enormous but not as enormous as a canon or Nikon equivalent.
It will be hard to hold at 1000mm, even harder at 1400mm.
Too early to tell if it will help, or hurt my game.
I don't know the lens yet. It's big and unwieldy.
Turn quickly the wrong way and someone is standing there that you didn't see, and you could knock them out cold as a cucumber.
Hope you guys are well,
LS

This is one of the places that I trek off to , just to see what I can see.
I just received a 12-50 lens and wanted to try it out. I bought it on the used market.

It wasn't expensive. I paid 100.00 for it. Works and functions perfectly and the glass is really good. I think.
Internal zoom too. I needed a lens like this for stuff like this photo.
Thanks for the comments on my other photos. I See them all and appreciate it.

I just stopped bumping my posts because saying "thank you" is good to show gratitude.
But it's bad when it's transparent and you do it to move your post to the top of the list.
Lots of people do it, and lots don't. I just didn't want to be like the ones who do.
Hope you guys are well, and understand where I'm coming from.
LS.

They will take fish much larger than one might think.
This bird dove into the water. I have never seen anything like it before. I have him captured just as he hit the fish.
He was literally wings spread in the water floating out in the middle of the lake, before he got up and took off.
I have seen them take small minnows and small bass, but I have never seen one take a fish this big.
Wish I could have gotten this better. It happens fast and this bird was a good ways out.
I've been intrigued with these birds , since I've watched and studied them. I think I will continue to shoot them for a bit and see what the days ahead bring.
Hope you guys are well,
LS

Nature This morning

Back in the swamps , this morning. The Mosquito's are terrible since the last storm.
I was camouflaged in a ghillie suit. I took my position and sat for about 2 hours.
This guy came in about 30 yards down from me and started making his way down the shallow water as he hunted.
I have him with a small bass in his beak, but this one amped me up.

The bird was very close. They started out at around 30 yards when they came in. As time passed they were within 25-30 feet..
As they started getting closer, I started to stop down. ( there were 2 of them) I went by this rule because the closer they come, the shallower the depth of field became.
It's kind of hard to do this because you're zoomed in so much that if the bird decides to take flight at any moment, they tend to jump right out of the frame.
At that point, you'll be either damn lucky, or damn good, to get them back in the frame in a timely fashion and in focus.
Time is a huge factor because it all happens in a split second. All of a sudden, the bird that was just 25-30 feet away, is now 75 to 100 feet away when you get him back in the frame and headed away from you. ( butt shot)
When startled, they never, Ever come to you, or parallel ..........always away and tail feathers.

I've never watched these birds hunt before today. Today I watched them for a long time. They will eat anything that can't eat them. I watched them grab small frogs, Fish, and a Lizard.
They know how to hunt proficiently. It was intriguing watching them use their wings and quick movements through the water to scare fish out where they could grab them.

Kind of like a cat, just before they strike on a frog or lizard, they have this butt sway. With fish it's different. The vision must be impeccable to be able to locate and grab a small fish under water. Or pinpoint a frog or lizard which all but blends into the surroundings. I love going after these kinds of shots, but, in all honesty, my failure rate is much higher than my success rate. This is probably my best capture with a camera in my entire life.
I set a standard for myself today that I doubt I'll ever achieve again.

He blends in well. The weather is bad here with poor light. I ventured out when there was a break in the rain and found wild growing poinsettia.
My intention was to practice on a few of the flowers, I took a few shots, different exposures and metering kinda stuff and then came back home to look at them on the computer.
As I was looking at one of the images , " wait a minute, What is that? He was on the back side of one of the stems. So I went back out there to try to find him. And there he was.

I found this by chance while out in the field while I was searching for something to use this lens on.
I bought the macro lens over a year ago and never really used it. I think I took one image of a bitterly with it which I thought was a garbage photo.
Then I put it away until I recently started really using it. Pretty neat lens. Great glass, Internal focus, weather Proof sealed, completely silent focusing ( effective focal length) 120mm.
13 elements - 10 groups.

I like it.
