The Topa Topa Mountains, inland California near Ojai. Lupines in the foreground. Much of the area has already turned brown for the season, but in this area the grass was still green.

Thanks for your feedback, Flanoman. The problem here was that there was a 5 foot barbed wire fence between me and the meadow, so I couldn't get any closer. I didn't want too long a lens because I wanted the trees in mid range and the full expanse of the sunrise. Perhaps the solution is a crop like this one?

A back country scene near Ojai, California. This was about an hour's drive from home, but I went out here for the sunset on the advice of a friend. Worth the trip!

Nice! After living in Ohio for several years I became a big fan of that state and its scenery.

Thanks Lake! Apart from the usual tweaks in Lightroom, like contrast and saturation, I added a contrast filter and a very mild blur filter in photoshop, then added a second blur filter but this time painted it out over the flowers.

Thanks Brian... and I liked your port-a-potty comment. That's a great definition for the "too crowded" threshold. :)

Do you live near a college with a geology department? If so maybe you can borrow some thin sections, rock slices on glass slides that are so thin that light will pass through them. Under polarized light you can see some spectacular displays depending on the mineral you're viewing and what angle the polarizer is set to.

What surprises me is how many people think sightseeing in crowds like these is fun!

A merged panorama of two pictures, taken by my son from the car as we drove past at about 30 mph. Too much traffic and too many people to even think about stopping! Check out the crowds in the second picture. Not doing that. Fortunately, we did get to stop and avoid the crowds further south at Anza-Borrego. This was on the way home.

Thanks Prince! I did try a few night shots near this spot, although I don't know if I'd be so presumptuous as to call it astrophotography :) I'll post a few later on. No fireflies though in this neck of the woods, as far as I know! ---------- Post added 03-31-19 at 11:46 AM ----------
Thanks so much Todd! Actually in thinking about it, these probably aren't poppies (at least not the orange California poppies we're used to seeing everywhere), I just made an assumption there. Not sure what they are, but they're probably brittlebrush, or maybe California coreopsis.

A few shots from last weekend's so-called superbloom in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The second shot was taken near the first shot, so these are the same variety of flowers up close and then standing back to see the big picture.
