Dull colors from Pentax K-5

Thank's for your reply.
Actually WB in both cameras is the same (ABW) and the exposure bias is set to 0.
In K10D there are only two image settings (toning) options: flat and bright and in K-5 there is several ones and I set it to 'bright' to match what I have in K10D.

Dull colors from Pentax K-5

Hi there,

I've been using Pentax K-5 for a while once I switched over from K10D last month. One of the issues that I struggle with is the quality of colors produced by K-5. I had been using K10D for few years and was very happy with the vidid and bright colors it'd been capturing most often.

When I start using K-5 colors are not that bright, images feel dull and I can see yellow/orange or pink/magenta cast ill over the image. I hope this is some setting of the camera that I don't understand that causes this and I'd appreciate if you guys could help me out a bit.

Here are some samples taken by K-5 an K10D with the same settings and the same lans. Pictures were taken with daylight (ABW setting).

Sample in JPEG (Unprocessed, as produced by camera)

Sample in RAW (Unprocessed, just exported to JPEG by LR)

Hi there,

First of all all the best in New Year!

I have a quick question regarding D-Range settings in K-5. Do you often enable Highlight and Shadow Correction? I was wondering in which situations those corrections can be useful and in which situations they can make a picture worst.

Cheers,
Tom

Why AF performance is different in automatic and selective mode?

How often do you use AF in selective (SEL) mode?

The reason why I'm asking is that I've noticed that AF is far more accurate when in AUTO mode than in SEL mode. The images focused in AUTO mode are razor sharp and the same shots in SEL mode tend to be a bit blurry.

I've also noticed that in AUTO mode often two AF points are often used together (the red dots in viewfinder). This never happens in SEL mode. Can you please help me understand this?

Please note this question is a cross-post with StackExchange question: autofocus - Why AF performance is different in automatic and selective mode? - Photography - Stack Exchange.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi all,

I've just got all new Pentax K-5 body that replaced old K10D. There are two questions I have in relation to the new gear that I hope you can help me to resolve.

1. How can I delete all images on the card? On K10D it was possible by using trash button twice.

2. Things from Func. menu of K10D has been moved to four corner buttons which is great. It's easy to modify WB without entering the Func. menu. But the issues is when I'm in the SEL mode of AF. Then the buttons are used to move AF point. Is there any way I can program any of other buttons to be able to access WB settings without switching AF mode to AUTO. It takes time, because the little knob for AF modes is rather tiny.

Many thanks for your kind help.

Cheers,
Tom
