The description says that the K-30 can use two different types of batteries at the same time?? How would that work?

Oops. You're right, the display doesn't work so you can't access the menu system. :o.
You could try to reset the camera by removing the battery and leaving it out of the camera for a short while. How long will it take? I don't know.
Well, if you do manage to reset the camera and the LCD still doesn't work, I guess it's time to send it in for repair. :(.

Don't have the cam with me now but if I recall, go to option #21 in the menu (display status) (page 221 in the manual) and set it to ON.
