Recived reply from Metz germany today:

Many thanks for your e-mail as of 02. Jan. 2012.

Basically the mentioned digital-camera Pentax K7 also is equipped with the synchronisation on the second curtain. However, if this function is switched on at the camera only the built-in flash unit of the camera works at the second curtain. The external flash unit isn't controlled by this setting. This depends on the camera.

In order to use the synchronisation on the second curtain the function has to be set at the external flash unit. Unfortunately the flash unit mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital for Pentax isn't equipped with this setting. Therefore this function can't be used by the combination of the mecablitz 44 AF-1 digital for Pentax together with the Pentax K7.

However, the afore-mentioned function can be used with the flash unit mecablitz 50 AF-1 digital and 58 AF-2 digital for Pentax. These flash units are equipped with the necessary setting.

We regret that we are unable to give you a more positive reply and remain
with best regards

Talked with the swedish general agent of metz today (importer Focus Nordic). They would look in to the issue to see if there is a compability issue or if the flash unit in fact is unable to preform trailing curtain shots with pentax models (even tho the manual sais so.)

Also spoke to Pentax an metz Main repair shop in sweden (Kameraservice Kungsör). The technician didnt have any metz 44 available for test shooting. But as he explained it trailing curtain with pentax original flashes is usually a setting made on the flash unit itself, not in the camera. (Haven't tried anny of the org. flashunits, so correct me if I missunderstood this.)

Will post again once Focus Nordic gets back to me.

Yes, I do. Tried both slow >> and only >>.

No difference.
Flash only triggers with first curtain.

Hello.
I've been reading some threads on the forum but haven't found a satisfying answer to my question.

From what I've read pentax uses the p-ttl to manage the trailing curtain sync, instead of just letting the center pin fire at the end. (why?)

The thing is I can't get my newly bought Metz 44 AF-1 to make a trailing curtain shot with my K7. No matter what settings I use (camera set to M, Tv, Av, P and flash tested on both TTL and M) it always fire the flash directly after first curtain. I tried the flash on my small Panasonic LX3, and the trailing curtain function worked perfectly there with the flash in M-mode.

According to Metz manuall the flash should be able to do 2nd curtain (set up in camera).

Using 2sec delay trigger I can se the P-TTL pre-flash, so P-TTL should be working, right?

Unfortunately I dont have access to an original Pentax Flash, so I can't test if the problem resides within the camera or the flash unit. :/ (built in flash works fine with trailing curtain.)

Anny ideas?
