I have an older Tamrom 70-200 f2.8 lens that someone is interested in buying. Is the Pentax version that much better or are they the same lens? I have not been disappointed by the Tamron as it works on my K1.

I have a 645 80-160mm and the three very small screws that hold the hood thread to the lens barrel have fallen out. I need to replace them. Any idea of the thread size?

I went through this a few months ago. I went with the Pentax and haven't been disappointed. Plus it was on sale under $5K while the Sigma was closer to $6K. Also it works with my Pentax 1.4TC. The Pentax is much better at contrast and IQ than the Sigma 150-500 that I sold. I took some photos of our local blue heron and was very pleased with the IQ. I blew up the eye and the catchlight in it was very clear and sharp. One thing to consider is having a good tripod that can support the lens.
My advice - just go get one if you are into wildlife

Thanks all,
My slight nudge to the Sigma was the less than convincing coverage of the K1 sensor. Best I can tell from the past discussions is it might cover the full image circle. Am I right?

I still like my IstD*2 something and have printed photos as large as 16x24" with the files. I had forgotten how compact it was. Great shots BTW.

Any new infomation on this debate when used with the K1? I'm leaning toward the Sigma for ease of handling and IQ.

I use my iPad to review work in the field. Just this week I was unable to review my K3 raw files. The downloaded files appeared as generic raw icons, no JPEG data coming out of the image. I can still see PEFs downloaded previously. I could pull the jpegs from the card in slot two. Raw files from my GX7 still display. I had to use PhotoRaw app to preview the files from the K3. I have any IOS 7.1.2 on the iPad. Strange behavior and not a major issue. Just curious if others have noticed. Going to post response on apple forum.

Thanks. I did upgrade my lens. Firmware Version 1.14 is the latest for the Q but it was apparent from the Ricoh site as they listed V1.13 as the latest. A quick search on the site did not bring up V1.14 for the Q either - just weird.

I was online at the Q support site and noticed firmware version 1.13 was listed as the most recent update. I also noticed two lens firmware updates for 01 and 02 lenses. When I checked my Q I have firmware version 1.14. Two questions: what has happened with version 1.14 and should I apply the two lens updates with even though the website only has v 1.13 and not v1.14?

I am also not getting a "live view" on iPhone. It will take a picture then promptly disconnect. I could not find where to deactivate "live view composition"

I had no issues with either pulling RAW files off my card or re-editing Adobe DNG Converted files after the latest Apple RAW update. Where I did have an issue was with old (2003-2004) DNGs. They appeared in the album as "Unsupported Image Format"

On my Mac Pro: Initially when I viewed the converted DNGs in the Library pane they showed up as unsupported. When I switched to the adjustment tab the photos converted when I clicked them. I have a number of Adobe DNG Converted files on my lap top and I will see how they are treated as I haven't updated the Camera Raw on it.

I just tried LR 5 trial and it wouldn't open PEF files or show previews for DNG or PEFs until after they are imported. It did open the DNGs. I did the upgrade to LR 5.3 trial and it worked fine on PEFs and DNGs, still no preview of images on the card

Thanks for all the input. I will wait until the Pentax version comes out. I have used the 50-300mm but depending on exposure or aperture the images vary in IQ, thats why I wanted the 300mm prime. In the mean time while waiting for the new lens I dug through my old kit and pulled out my film era 200mm with a vivitar 2x converter to play with on my new K3 and try some manual focusing.

I have the new DA 300mm F4 lens on its way. I was looking for a teleconverter to go among with but can't find anything offered by Pentax. A tread that was a couple of years old mentioned something about a new Pentax TC on the way but I couldn't find anything. I can find a Kenko 1.5X Teleplus - 4 Element DG Auto Focus-Pentax or a Vivitar 1.4x Teleconverter with AF for Pentax. The Kenko had an okay rating in the review here in the forum but the vivitar was not listed. Any advice or suggestion on a teleconverter?

I have a kit of three zoom lens all Tamron; 10-24mm f3.4, 28-75mm f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8. The sense I have is that most think IQ is better with primes. I can get a good normal view with 28-75 at the low end. Would a Pentax prime in the 35mm or the 40mm range add much or just add more kit with out added capability?

I was looking for a new lens this week and passed on the Pentax smcP DA 50-135mm f2.8 ED (IF) SDM and for the price I went for two Tamron lenses, the Tamron AF 70-200mm f/2.8 and the AF 28-75mm f/2.8, both for less than the one Pentax. Performance of the Tamron lenses looked good.

The lens release button on my camera came off. Does any one know how it is fitted - friction or screw? I have tried screwing it back on as there appear to be treads on the button but they could be a friction mechanism. How would one re-secure the button?

Thanks for the info. I'm going to pull the trigger on the Pentax lens. I was intrigued by the Sigma 70-300 Macro but the photo link you sent sold me on the Pentax.

Thanks for the quick responses - after some additional research I'm concerned about the 2x at the low end 55-70mm and possible lens damage and will pass on the teleconverter. I have an older 2x that I used with my MX and fixed 200mm that could work in manual focus. I have tried it with a couple of older kit lens and it works but I have been told that using the 2X on anything less that 100mm is a bad idea. SInce I will be on foot for three weeks and I plan to leave my bigma Sigma at home. I can work with the 300mm for architectural details in conjunction with a 10-24mm and maybe 105mm Macro.
BTW do you all use the DA 55-300?

I am looking to purchase the DA 55-300 for an all round travel lens to supplement my wide-angle and 50mm lenses. I found a Vivitar 2x teleconverter also. But one says it is specific to the 55-300 at Amazon and B&H has two telecoverter, a 4 element and a 7 element.
I will be traveling for three and the size and weight of the lens is good. The forum rates the Pentax 55-300 higher than either the Sigma or the Tamron 70-300 so I am liking the lens.
Would anyone know if the teleconverter shown is specific to the lens? Is it even necessary?jlh

Looking for a suggestion of a lens to fill the gap left by the 18-55mm kit lens. I have a 10-24mm Tamron at one end and a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 at the other. Would a 35mm prime lens - giving me a ~ 50mm be a good fit between my two other lens? Any recommendations on a 35mm prime? These would go on my K20D or K-5.
