Slik Sprint Mini II vs. Manfrotto Compact

Figured I would post this because someone may also consider buying this tripod: buy it.

Just got it today and the quality is actually a bit better than expected. It easily holds my k-x with zoom lens and flash. The pan head is smooth and super solid, it's all metal. The quick release sticks at first but after a few uses it gets 'broken in'. I can't complain about anything for the low cost of $65 shipped, especially because it packs down super short (~14") but when extended is comfortable to use even at my height (6'3"). I did not make a mistake buying this tripod.

Do you not understand the concept of a return policy? If I am not satisfied with it I can simply ship it back, but if it suites my needs then I saved $60 (if it doesn't work then I plan on getting the Benro Travel Angel A068, $110 with edu special). That's a savings I'm going to take a chance on. Additionally, out of 28 reviews the average score is above 4.5 stars. Several reviews specifically mention using a DSLR, like the k-x, with a 55-300 zoom lens, stating that it easily supported it. What evidence do you have that buying this tripod would be just like 'throwing money away', do you have an experience with this tripod that you're not mentioning? In my opinion, spending twice as much as is necessary on anything is throwing money away.

Thanks for the responses everyone, that was a good read stevebrot!
I'm going to get this tripod and this pistol grip head. I plan on using the kit panhead for a diy glidetrack I'm making. I haven't ordered them yet, so if you have a really good reason why I shouldn't, let me know. I willing to trade some stability for compactness and cost, I have read about the 'three tripods until you realize it thing' but I can usually just deal with what I'm given. Thanks for all of the input guys, when/if I order them I'll do a quick review for you all.
Happy new years!

Thanks for the reply Captmatt.
Question, it looks like the folded length of the tripod is 17.7", adding the smallest ballhead (2.7") brings that to nearly 21", is this correct or am I missing something?
I have dismissed the manfrotto after lackluster reviews concerning the head. Another tripod I've begun to look at was the Sunpak Compact B Folded length is 14" and max height is ~4-5' I'm thinking about getting that, swapping out the pan head for a cheap ballhead, so I can use the panhead for a diy glidetrack project I'm working on. Finding reviews for the Sunpak is difficult, and it appears only BH sells it. I've been playing with the idea of a monopod for quickness and ease of access, but I feel like I could just bump up the iso or lessen the fstop instead... any experience here would be appreciated :)
Thanks for responding!

I am studying abroad this coming semester in New Zealand, taking my pentax k-x (biggest lens is 70-300). I am looking for a cheaper tripod to take on my travels (hiking, backpacking, etc).
After research I have narrowed it down to a Manfrotto Photo-Movie Kit or Slik Sprint Mini II . Both will look like they will fit, but the Slik is obviously much smaller (but with a smaller max height). I am a fan of the head on the Manfrotto (I am getting into video as well).
What are your opinions? Please feel free to recommend others as well, but the max height is pretty much 18".

Thanks!

Just built this myself, works great. Android app doesn't work for me on LG Optimus S though, I can hear a beep with headphones but doesn't work with IR leds...
My phone may be too quiet or something. Here is a link to wav files for 1,5,10,15,20,30,45,60 seconds.
Works great on my 3rd gen ipod nano!
