personally at base iso , even considering the higher dr of the z...i will take night and day the 645d and his ccd sensor
for me what took apart the 645d was that rendering typical of ccd....that i love with my k10d and lost in the k- series.
yes the sony cmos is better in dr and high iso...but the ccd at base iso is so smooth, the transition between tones amazing and has sublime rendering.
in my opinion while the cmos 645z is a great tool in every other department, it has the same kind of image that sony a series or nikon full frame has.
so keep the d and buy the zoom, or better the 25 f4. all this fuss about dr is overrated. use filter or luminosity technique in photoshop to achieve better balance with the d.
the overuse of dr in cmos sensor creates only unnatural images, i learn it using my k5 for long time.

complain complain complain some only know how to complain...they want pentax do everything nikon and canon but at half price....that's why most people didn't buy ff camera and lenses from canon....it was money....now that pentax come out with a good proposal at very good price...the 24-70 cost less than half....they complain cause the kit zoom lens is shorter...they not even consider that probably the canikon 24-120 cost double....they want all at half price....
i expect big rant for lens af even price...

---------- Post added 02-15-2016 at 09:49 AM ----------

by the way nobody consider the huge advantage of in camera pixel shifting....or sensor adjustment composition (something that is so good to mimic a cube head from arca and something you can't do with a ball head only...so you save some good money).....or 5 axes stabilization ....i'm sure the only thing people will tell

- af ois not on par with canikon
-kit lens is slow and short
flash sync not 1/250---

bla bla bla...

stop ranting and go buy the gear you wanted from beginning...a d810....usre it will cost double considering the 24-70 but you will be happy and you will cure your complex of inferiority towards your canikon friend,

Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Coming for Pentax!

to put in perspective this lens cover the most used focal...27-50....all at 1,8 aperture and with tack sharpness from edge to edge even at 1,8.

the pentax lenses from 15 and 20-40...are not sharp edge to edge not even close at f5,6...they cost a lot of money,, they are slow as hell, from one to two stop the sigma, their af is slower and not silent.....and the cost of sigma is less than pentax 20-40....

I have put up a gallery in my website about a project i made in Kiev during these days of revolution. i portrayed protesters and not like in studio. I used the k5 with the 16-50, my 645d with 55 and 75 mostly, and a fuji x100s.

i hope you enjoy.

my website is still under working phase so any suggestion is welcomed.

645D vs. A7R

here a sample from two days ago. the beautiful marble valley in carrara at sunset..

pentax 645d with 35 a at f16

crop center

crop edge

i apply normal sharpening in lightroom very minimal, the 645d file can be treated with a lot of sharpening and clarity without creating disturbing artifacts

here two article i found of d800e used in landscape shots.

My Nikon D800 vs D800E Comparison | Matt Kloskowski

Nikon D800E - Amazing Resolution ...but "Houston, We Have A Problem!" :: General Blog

in both cases lenses that cost more than 1000 euro...one case a prime considered sharp stopped down.
probably only the 14-28 can create acceptable edge corners, and the new 15 zeiss that cost 3 grand. i cannot find sample in the web. i remember the sample
produced by nikon for the launch of d800 and there were shots by professional photog with 14-28. i remember i wasn't impressed by the corner performance.

in the second link the authto write

Conclusion: The D800/D800E is a mighty achievement for Nikon, as it boasts an incredible, mega detail resolving sensor that is capable of providing results normally the domain of much more expensive Large Format digital…. but perhaps the release of this camera was a little premature from Nikon? For without the lens system to back it up, this camera may well become an expensive paperweight for those who like to shoot wide angle and then print big.

My recommendation is to try this camera with your own lenses before you buy (ask very nicely at your local camera store) and be prepared for the extra cost of some new lenses if your current ones are no longer up to the task.

and the same has been told to me by a swiss pentaxian in preview forum. he use both camera. and d800 don't produce the iq of 645d.

anyway both great camera, but for ultimate IQ i think 645d has the edge.

645D vs. A7R

there will be for me and you...everybody is buying the a7...i have seen all the gallery from sony a7r and every time the same...clarity far behind, poor tonality smoothness...harsh contrast.....and most of all zero 3d feeling,, the contour of subject looks always jagged while with 645d it seems well defined...
for me the only 35 mm camera , apse or ff, that has the real medium format characteristic and produce at least at base iso comparable images, with less resolution, are the merril from sigma both the sd1 and the compact. i will take them every day against d800e and a7. and i don't care about dxi rating or imaging resource test....i want see real photo with natural light with a 28 mm lenses.
look the official sony gallery of a7r a7...those who say these are better than 645d images must go to optics center.

it's clear that people tha compare this sense to 645d has never seen the 645d output in real world, with subtle tonality, difficult light.
i repeat..i have never seen a photo from d800 e that can approach the combo 645d a35 in a landscape shot for example.
but it's better people not buy the 645d. price will fall down soon and i can grab another steal second 645d.
in addiction while most of the 35 ff lenses suffer with 36 million pixel , the 40 million pixel and lenses are not even near the limit. i'm pretty sure the 645lenses can deal easily with 60 and 80 for sure.

actually i made a claim and underlined where the flash miss features , basic nowadays for other system. nobody answer, apart one that suggest that he uses a nikon d4 when he needs some features pentax is missing. good point i'd say.
ok better accept that pentax cannot do things right most of the time.

so i have probably more than 50k dollar of pentax gear, and i cannot say that a flash with a 10 years old technology is a disappointment.
it's pretty easy to see why pentax is 3% in the market. it fullfill a small niche of photographer those who shoot cats and flowers.

still no ratio and group control still no zoom more tha 85, what a disappointment.
super price. led light good but very small.
600 dollar for weather sealing. i shoot 80000 frames here, and i probably have never used or just 1 2 time the flash under rain, i mean heavy. normal rain is always no problem with any flash i have used.
probably pentax think that flash must be used only in camera, while the rest of the world think good flash photography is when the flash is detached from the camera.
yesterday i bought a cheap chinese flash. is the exact copy of the canon 600, with radio transmitter incorporated. 149 with every whistle and belts, included control of power and group and ratio. with 600 dollar you can buy 6 flash, the lower model cost 65 dollar.
i planned to disinvest in pentax gear, keep only my 645d and a k5 with a zoom, but now my old flashes have also lost value.

New AOKATEC FLASH PTTL REMOTE SYSTEM

this is an email from the aokatec manufacturer.

Hi Jonatha,

Thanks for your inquiry. Yes, we tested and sure AK-TTL support pttl and high sync for pentax.
The AK-TTL convert optical signals to radio, it retain all functions of original optical wireless system, giving it a range of up to 110 meter/360ft. So for pttl, need turn on pop-up flash or have a master/controler flash on camera. As pentax's pop-up flash do not support high sync, you need have a master/controler flash on camera. For pentax system, AK-TTL will compatible with Pentax, Metz, Sigma flashes.
The AK-TTL also can work as a simple flash trigger.
The AK-TTL will be released within one month.

We will email you when it released. Any questions please contact with us freely.

price is set 160 a kit, considering radio popper cost 480 a kit...not bad

in practice they are producing radio popper for all the brand. This is great news but is also very sad we have a flash system so old and not modern.

In practice with the remote you could use group and ratio, creating a real CLS aka nikon for all the brand, but with radio signal, in practice again canon is releasing the same solution at 630 dollar with their new 600 flash.
the problem is pentad don't do group or ratios, and is the only camera maker left without thiese features.

PENTAX we don't need strange camera or impossible focal length, we need a new flash system!!!
sincerely i have 8 flash, both the pentax and metz and 4 manual, i use elinchrom ranger quadra for control in camera, but i have lost my hope pentax will introduce new features in flash system.
I'm hoping more in metz.

I love pentax and use it for work, but at this point i'm really thinking of minimizing my pentax gear and buy a nikon full frame camera .
