I wasn't very prepared, I never have good luck on the moon and figured it would be same deal so i just grabbed my K3 with the grab n go 18-135WR. I tape and then later hot glued a #10 weld lens to the lens and took pics handheld at between 1/560 and 1/2500 depending on sun coverage. ISO 100, aperture around F10-F13. I found the trick was using as fast as speed as I could to sharpen up the sun, almost to under exposing.

I feel like I took my best photos with a K20D

---------- Post added 11-27-23 at 01:47 PM ----------

That's what I thought but they don't even use a projector anymore. I get the film back as 300dpi digital scans from aPakon F135 Plus. If I want anything bigger than 8x10 I'll need to get a better scanner

Fresh light meter battery and good to go. I got a couple Pentax 50's and like how my samyangs are full frame and have aperture rings. Just wish it could do longer than 1s exposure without bulb

I'm one of those guys that do everything so I never get a chance to be great at anything. But 2 hobbies have always stuck, building things (Exotrucks), and photography. Every couple years I get the photography itch comes back and I pick up a few new things until the itch is gone and and back to just taking cell phone pics. Photography has stuck because I have a poor memory, If I don't take pictures I wont remember the things I've done. Its nice having those galleries to take trips back down memory lane. However I realize I'm just zipping right through the images, not many of them stand out telling stories or are "great" photos. That brings me to why I picked up the K1000, I want to take more time, more thought and more care into each shot. I want more shots that id like to print and hang up and people ask me about. I shot my first round the other week and had them developed, which actually got me upset that they don't use paper like they used to, its just scanned negatives and digital prints, but whatever. The film I used said to develop before August 2009, it came with the K1000, I didn't have high hopes, but figured lets at least see if camera works. So these are my new "greats", just some random around the house pics to see what happens. Now ill go get new film and start trying harder.

Thanks. I got it working on some cactus triggers, i use rechargeable batteries so I don't think it's 1.5v like it was designed for. Recharge has been ok lately, I have it on a cactus trigger and umbrella as a hair light at the moment. Your correct about the window, it mirrors up into that detachable trigger looking thing

Anyone familiar with this flash? I can't find anything on it, I think it has an adjustable intensity but only seem to be getting full power and a pretty slow charge

One thing I'd like to work on is making subject feel comfortable. Even though I have known her for 15 years and we're very good friends, the whole shot still felt awkward. A lot of photos were erased just because of nervous unnatural facial expressions. That's on me and it would be even worse with people I don't know. My social skill are terrible.

Good tip. She wears a large diamond on that hand too. These are the kind of things I miss with the lack of experience. Thank you

My wife's sister asked me to take some head shots for her real estate stuff. I the family "picture guy" and enjoy taking pictures. This would be my first serious attempt at relatively important portraits.

For equipment I just used what I had. About 10 years ago I got a cheap umbrella set. Two stands, with white and reflective silver umbrellas. They had clamps for hotshoe flashes. I only have one flash now, a DG610 super. So I mounted that on a cactus trigger and set it up behind a white umbrella about chest high on image left. Flash set to manual, I think 1/16 power. We took picture outside on overcast day, an hour ago. K3 camera, Samyang 85mm F1.4. The other cactus in the hot shoe. I had to get the shutter speed below 180 so I used iso 100 and had to go up to f2.8. I would have like a lower F stop but I think 2.8 helped get her face and all her hair in focus. Oh and I had a cardboard square wrapped in foil she had in her arms in some of the pics. But I can't tell which lol.

Guess I'm just asking for another pair of eyes and any tips for making most with limited equipment.

Link to album.

I think I may have spotted one on highway 10 just north of 72. I saw it fly from a cliff side and quickly grabbed phone dangerously leaning across to snap pic out passenger window. Best I could do.

Sorry been busy. Signal hit or miss. So far we have been in 4 Season lake community near Gary Indiana. Then a rest stop so where in Minnesota. Yellowstone for 3 days, saw most of the park, very nice, but wildlife only seen at dusk. Logan Utah for a hotel stay to refresh and fix up some RV propane tank issues. Last night was a stay in Hiawatha at a RV camp. Currently in Bryce Canyon right on the edge of the show, cell phone pic below. Tomorrow is Grand Canyon and maybe stay in Vegas. Then it's two night in Sequoia National Forest and the Monterey bay. And then back in East.

My go to lens has been my newer copy of Tamron 17-50. My DA 55-300 not so good, IQ of 18-135 cropped is likely better. Got a few on the new Samyang 14 f2.8 too. It's been hazy every day/night so no stars yet.

Do you have a polarizer filter? Might help with the glare on some of the shinier cars. Personally I like to take car pics at 50+mm because I don't like distortion you get close up, but then you end up with too many chances of people standing in your way.

A Tamron 17-50 would be my choice but since you don't have that one, I'd go for the 20-40

Thinking of replacing my Tamron 17-50. Think I got a bad copy cause I had one with my old k20 and it was a much better copy. Any recommends, even peeking at a Pentax DA 16-85

Not sure if "a" or "an" is correct. Would probably help if the whole sentence was correct, don't think start off with "Got" was proper. English is so confusing that even Americans can't figure it out so we all have our own dialect
