Too bad there doesn't seem to be anyplace to order additional filter holders to make it quick and easy to change them out - Pentax/Richo has been no help, nor B&H, or anyone here when I asked about this several months ago. I tried to get a filter made by Sing-Ray, but they required me to send them one of the filter holders, which I could never buy anywhere. If someone here has a source to purchase one of these filter holders, please let me know. Thanks!

How large is the preview window? Can you zoom in on the image to fill that preview window and school around either during live view? Thanks for your info...
Nothing available in the US yet that I have seen - their store only lists the original version for the D. Anyone have a link where to purchase this in the US?

Looks like that other thread linked to above turned into a pissing match like so many others, with little valuable info. But now that I know a little bit about the feature, and found the easy on/off button on the Z, I can make some tests for my different lenses and see what it does.THANKS for all your help guys!

Thanks for that note. So you are saying that the sharpening is applied to the RAW file at capture and before it is written to the memory card, and cannot be undone? I guess that would be a good thing if it actually worked and did not cause problems that could not be undone.

The PENTAX 645Z is equipped with full-featured lens correction functionality. Together with distortion and magnification chromatic aberration, peripheral illumination correction and diffraction correction are newly added. Diffraction that occur when stopping down the lens during shooting are effectively corrected on the PENTAX 645Z. Additionally, it is equipped with fringe correction for use in processing RAW images. Guess I was thinking about screw-in filters - I don't like those giant filter setups, and was trying to figure out how much thickness could be used with a screw in filter without vignetting - if anyone has used one and could report that would be great - thanks!

I always wear a photo vest when flying so if there is a carry on weight issue I just put a couple lenses in the vest to lighten the carry on, then put them back in the bag once on board. There does not seem to be any weight restrictions on people or their clothing.

Clearly when compared to the ancient film-era lenses, the 25mm is overpriced (and is one reason why I'm sending mine back). But their 90mm is also nearly 5K, and it is a much easier and cheaper lens to produce then a top-quality wide-angle zoom, which is unlike any other medium-format manufacturer has ever produced before. The ultimate success will depend on the image quality - and with their flagship body now being 50mp and wanting to compete with the big boy brands, I would expect this lens to be stellar across the board. Let's hope so, as it will also give an indication of what future lenses will bring.

Wow, I guess you are a lot better photographer than me if you get a perfect picture every time you click the shutter - it often takes me thousands before I get one that I'm happy with. I've still got a lot to learn.

The new Phase One 40-80 zoom is $8995, but is has a leaf shutter and a premium price brand name, so I would expect the Pentax to be a bit cheaper, but higher than their 25 and 90 lenses since it is, well, more than one lens!

Only 3-6 rolls a day? I don't consider that very much - I would shoot that sometimes for a single scene - still do today, but it doesn't cost me a dime. Back in 1995 I shot 40,000 Pentax 6x7 Velvia frames for one book project alone (most of those were 220 rolls, traveled to 43 states in 11 months - a couple hundred rolls of 35mm Velvia too for that book project, but those were a lot less expensive per frame than the 6x7). Sometimes though when I had to do an all-night star trail it would only be one frame in a night, then get the roll processed, then shoot another frame the next night, then another roll processed, etc. SO MUCH CHEAPER and easier to do now with digital! No question. I've been shooting for 40 years and have spent a small fortune on film and processing during the first 25 years before digital. 5-7 years worth of film and processing would have cost me a couple hundred grand - compared to $8,500 for a camera body with sensor now, that would be insane. Like most things in life, it's all relative, and no two of us are alike...

Hey Mike, the B+W F-pro 10-stop ND that I have vignettes and the color cast varies across the frame. Have you been able to correct this?

I looked at the Hoya site and their good NDs were not made in 40.5mm, smallest was 49mm. (Hoya ProND filters that have a Metallic ACCU-ND coating - I was hoping these filters would help with the color-cast issues - the B+W 64x ND had a wried cast that varied across the frame even after color correction via color checker card.)
With the rumor of the 28-45mm zoom perhaps soon (HD Pentax-DA 645 28-45mm F4.5 ED AW SDM SR - Pentax Rumors), I might send my 25mm back and wait on that one, although I've not seen a filter size noted for it.

I have this filter and it fits just fine - in fact it is a tad thinner than those supplied with the lens - B+W 40.5mm 1.8 ND MRC 106M Filter. I could not stack two of them though, but there is room for a thicker filter to go through the slot, not sure exactly how thick. I found this filter does vignette for some reason vs. the clear filter.
What I have been unable to find anywhere is an extra filter holder - if someone has a source please post. I much prefer to have each filter in its own filter holder, which makes swapping them out a lot faster, plus you don't have to handle the filter at all, and with these tiny suckers it is easy to touch the glass with a grimy fingertip while screwing one off and the other one on.

Yes, mine kicked in at ISO 3200 during long exposures last night. I think the only real question was could this be turned off, and obviously it cannot, so same as the 645d. Oh well. Those high ISO files sure are nice!

When I shot film, I would often spend $25,000-$50,000 a year on slide film and processing. When the first high-res digital Canon and Nikon bodies came out, they were $8,000, but that was A LOT less expensive than buying film and processing - the savings were huge of digital vs. film. Then I moved up to eventually shooting with the 80mp phase back, Alpa tech cam, German lenses, and had 80-grand in my camera bag. But all of that was still less expensive than buying film and processing every year. When the 645D came out with all those cheap lenses available, it was like sale day at Wal Mart - a 40mp medium format camera for about the same price as a 12mp Canon 1Ds? And I liked the files a lot better than the sterile ones I was getting from the tech cam system.
Adjusted for inflation, $8,500 today for a camera is peanuts compared to what I used to spend for film and processing each month alone. For someone who shoots very much at all, digital is a great deal cheaper than film and processing, and the Pentax 645z is not only better, but a fraction of the price of any other digital medium-format system. So it is all relative - for someone who shoots very much, digital - on any level - is a lot cheaper than shooting film, thank goodness!

I shot about 100 frames of the Milky Way early this morning with the Z on AUTO and it did a dark-frame for EVERY shot (and then after the dark frame it took another 8-10 seconds for the file to be written and camera controls available again). These were all high ISO (I guess that term is relative, but to me it begins at 6400), from 6400 to 25600. The temp was cool, in the 60's, with most exposure times being 10 seconds up to 120 seconds (some of those on a tracker). There is no OFF on this camera, so it is just like the D in that regard, and when shooting high ISO it kicks in most of the time (at least beginning at 10 seconds), so no time-lapse of the Milky Way possible it looks like. So it is a combination of High ISO, exposure time, and air/sensor temp, but most of the time at High ISO it will be on, which is a big disappointment for star shooters like me - still INCREDIBLE for a medium-format camera, just disappointing.

OK thanks, that clears it up - the processor measures the sensor and takes exposure time and ambient temp into consideration and then decides to do a dark slide or not. That is the same way the 645d worked - sometimes it did one at a particular exposure time, sometimes it did not. The Z seems to have much more latitude and therefore longer times/higher temp before it kicks in, but still no way to actually turn it off as had been reported. When shooting a 1,000-frame time-lapse of 30 second images in the summertime I suspect it would kick in all the time, so doing a time-lapse would not be possible without the potential of having the dark frame kick in.
So the correct answer is there is no way to actually turn the dark frame off for sure - it just all depends on what the camera thinks should be done. Bummer.

The 645z that I have only has options for Long Exposure Noise Reduction (Slow Shutter Speed NR) AUTO or ON - could someone tell me where to find the OFF setting? (I must be blind, but page R17 is all I see and I can't find it in the menu.) As Jono noted in his post - "1) Yes NR can be switched off manually." Thanks.

Dear all. To answer your question in short.
1) Yes NR can be switched off manually.
2) I did a 30 seconds multiple times with internal shooting. No problem. See attached photo and download from google. Settings were ISO 100, F8, 30s exposure, auto correction on LR (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6-...it?usp=sharing)
