I have the VL 40mm f2 and have used it a lot on my film bodies, it's a great little gem, though I've now changed my full gear setup to Nikon, as I really wanted a workhorse FF digital, so now it's just resting here in a drawer together with some left over Pentax film bodies and lenses that are for sale, and then I think I'll get the same 40mm in Nikon mount instead. I already bought the VL 28mm 2.8 in Nikon mount for street photography (using an old nice Nikon FE2), and the 40mm would be a great complement!

There is no Full Frame.. (And my Nikon d610 + 28mm is ordered…and all the Pentax gear that I have not already sold, is still up for sale….)

I've now used the Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2 for about a year, and I love it! Shooting film, and couldn't be more happy with a lens!! Though as I'm jumping ship and going to Nikon instead (I need that FF digital!) I'm selling all my Pentax gear, and this one too, but this one I will for sure get again in Nikon mount ….
Too bad there's no FF Pentax, but I'm sure it's a REALLY nice 60mm for them APS-C bodies too!

This lens is great, I've had one for my Pentax film bodies for more than a year and have used it quite a lot. I'm on my way giving up on Pentax though as there's no FF in sight, and go to Nikon instead, so I am about to sell this (along with the rest of my Pentax gear) and get a Nikon version instead, it's definitely a lens to have in the toolbox no matter what system, it wont get dusty….

The fire-squad in the Shire had until now only had need for one rescue horse and carriage, but after Mr. Frodo's adventures to the dark parts of Middle-Earth the council was flooded with requests to improve this. Now they faced one major problem, where to put a second port of entry for a new carriage?

Okay, so between the 6x7 (except for early models without MLU) and 67, there's no difference really, is that correct? And for the 67II the major improvement is the AV mode, and TTL flash?
So in my case a 67 or 6x7 will be just great I guess then!

Ah, so MLU is maybe not really required, after all for what I intend to do I want to compose every frame on that valuable 120/220 roll, though I was thinking maybe the mirror vibrates enough to potentially ruin the shots and then a well composed frame, lockup the mirror, and then shoot, would be a good procedure?
Anyway, indeed, if I go for any flavor of 67 I'll try to find a well working nice looking unit, else I will just start thinking about having someone refurbish it and it will never be used until I have the cash to get the work done... been there, done that... HEHE!

Yeah, I've decided I will go for a 67 or alike, I will read up on the three different ones and then start trawling for prices. For a start I will probably only need something like a 35mm and a 50mm equivalent (eq. to 35mm format that is) for the things I intend to do. MLU, I guess is a great thing to have, is that standard on all of them, or an optional fit? Oh, and I WILL need a remote shutter cable!

Very nice, the large format thingie there, though I think I'll probably stick to the other ones, and after following the discussion here I kind of feel that maybe the 67 is the way to go after all!
So, differences, 6x7, 67, 67II ?

Hmm, another interesting point to take into the calculation indeed!
Anyone else with experiences of the two different negative sizes who have further reflections regarding this?
I have no prefs really for the machine itself, the only thing that scared me about the 6x7 was the unreliability mentioned earlier in this discussion, and yeah, inserts for changing rolls sounds more convenient than having to roll up a new roll after 15 shots, but I guess that files under "habit adaptation" ..

After looking around a little I've found that the 645n can be had fairly inexpensively, though after reading up on APUG and other places I am under the impression that there's far more interesting glass to get from the 67 series, and as someone mentioned in this thread there's an adapter to use these lenses on the 645 series.
What are the drawbacks with doing that (apart from the manual focus, which is not a problem), and specific procedures out of the "normal" when doing it?
Oh, and in terms of using manual focus, on the 645n, is there some kind of split prism or focus confirmation etc. to help when doing manual focusing?

Though the 645 has inserts, right? So as long as I finish a roll, I could just drop in another insert and not have to recharge anything during the shooting, assuming that I have charged inserts on standby, right?

hehe, oh well, I've been doing a fair amount of astronomy (where depending on what tools you use things can be up and down, mirrored etc.), that will probably not be a huge deal, even if of course absolutely something to be aware of!

Hmm lots of good thoughts there!
It will more be like "scenes" than straight up portraits, in this project, but that's of course a question about the choice of optics to start with, I guess I have to find out what 35mm equivalents I need, and then look at what lenses that can be had for whatever system I decide to hop on to.
A stand alone meter sounds like a great idea no matter what, I should probably pick one up already now!
It sounds a bit scary with unreliability, ie. the 67 systems, what I don't want is a piece of machinery that needs to go to the doctor every month or two, how bad is this really?
The 645's does of course not look even half as cool as the 67 systems, of course this is not a serious consideration, but I must say, that if they are more reliable and more of "work horses", that's probably where I'd want to go then.
Any more thoughts and opinions on this matter?
Regarding usability, workflow and loading etc. I guess that's just a matter of habits, I have no problems adapting to new habits as long as I dont have to stand naked on one leg and sing starspangled banners backwards...

Hello there,
I'm starting a project during the next months with indoor natural light only model shooting (lingerie/nude arts), and I've been thinking about getting a film MF, preferably Pentax as I am a Pentax 35mm film shooter already (for digital I use other gear...).
Any thoughts about which one to choose; 645/N/NII, 6x7/67/67II?
Do I need built in metering, or in a controlled situation with camera on tripod, as this will be, will a supplementary light meter alone do the job? If so, any meter recommendations?
I could of course do this with 35mm, and I probably will for a start, but the idea of nice big MF negs is very appealing in this case.
Please spare me the "buy a 645d" comments, it's not interesting, I want to use film for this project.

There's quite a deal of customizing the jpg-processor in the LX7, I didn't find anything I liked with the factory settings either, but after some tweaking and testing, I now have a b&w preset that gives me an output that often fools people I know who's been shooting film for ages... So it's not only me feeling what comes out is great.. :)
The x-series image processor is great as well, I bought an XF-1 for the missus some month ago, and it's an amazing little gem too (if you don't mind the limitations with no accessory shoe etc. but liking the mx-1 you probably don't care anyway...), though me I prefer f/1.4 (LX7).

X10 never impressed on me, but X20 does.
How do you define "IQ is better"... ?
LX7 has 24mm on the wide end... it's quite impressive optic wise, it sure made me long for more serious glass on my pentax film bodies, so first thing I did after getting my LX7, was to add a voigtlander 40mm f2 to my SLR arsenal.. HEHE!

Who said something about RX-100 ?
Fujifilm x20 may not have an articulated screen, but it has a really nice optical viewfinder... and for more or less all the rest of the mirrorless, Olympus XZ-2, Lumix LX7 et al, there's an accessory shoe to fit an EVF etc.
Go figure.

Pity on the lack of accessory shoe, makes this a dead end in the compact camera competition race, really sad, it looks like a neat lil workhorse else...
