Yes, thought so. Meaning resolution setting differences in one camera does not improve / decrease iso performance. It would be nice if it would be possible, as often quite little reso is enough. But megapixels are easier to market than high dynamic range, even though often the latter provides nicer images...

Stupid question, but its unclear for me so thought asking.
Will setting with less resolution provide better dynamic / better high iso performance.?
As you cannot choose resolution when shooting in RAw guessing answer is no..?

Anti-shake seems to work better in panning, compared to k-5

yep, like k-5 colour rendering but k-3 can push sharper images.

It would be nice to see test of Pentax 300/f4, sigma 300/f2.8 and new pentax 150-450 used with k-3 ii. Thinking also getting new 150-450 but Sigma's big aperture is tempting especially because like to shoot in dim light. Still, if using tripod (which you most propably will do), aperture advance is not that major issue, and betting Pentax lens focuses better.

Guessing k-5 will outperform in low light and dynamics, where as k-3 ii will outperform in cropping thanx to more pixls and pixel shift.
Ive shot somewhat 400frames with k-3 ii and in some points miss the colour dynamics of k-5, but can easily get focus right pics with balanced lightning so Im happy. I do Postprocessing for pics anyways and it appears I get more usable photos with k-3. Compared to k-5 IIs guessing theres less gap especially in focusing performance, so its a definitely a though call. Im quite happy with APC as shooting mainly portraits and animals, tend to prefer smaller size in lenses and frame than pure picture quality.

Got mine copy of K-3 II yesterday and initial feel is promising. I have K-5 as a first Pentax camera and K-3 seems to perform better in low light focusing where K-5 struggled. I love to take darker photos for which this is a huge bonus.
Must also test the astrotracker feature during winter holiday.
fun times ahead...!

Thanks! I had to push more light into shadows in Adobe LR to get lightening balanced, for some reason my K-5 tends to leave photos somewhat dark, which I don't mind since shooting RAW and using Adobe stuff you're capable in bringing beatiful details from shadows anyhow.
Currently Like to shoot ultra wide or then with tele. Too bad didn't purchase Sigma 10-20mm back then, at the point felt it was useless. Then, 18mm in 18-135mm is quite capable already.
Good lens!

have been using Pentax system for some years, and now it's time to upgrade.
current setup is k-5, 18-135, 55-300, 40/f2.8 ltd and 70/f2.4 ltd.
I initially started planning in upgrading to k-3, but then started thinking if getting better glass would be nicer option.
60-250 f4 seems to be a nice lens, or 300 f4. both are light and provide good quality. then again, is the focusing good enough with k-5?
the new lens lineup is also interesting, espec. 70-200 f2.8 especially with the teleconverter, it would provide some flexibility (low light setup vs. more range). Then again, it's heavier than the oldies. I'm kind of sceptic concerning the focusing performance of k-5. however it's quite good with 18-135, so I would guess it would be reasonable too with f2.8 glass. k-5 is a fine camera expect low light focusing is rather poor.
I'm photographing random stuff in nature, not anything specific (in which I guess zoom is quite convenient). Usually having 1hr walks in nearby forest, and put one lens in camera and then live with it.
maybe get new glass now and then upgrade camera when k3 replacement arrives (if ever...?)
wish there would be a possibility to test 70-200 f2.8 focusing performance with current camera to get more experience in which situations it performs. There's some lens rentals for nikon and canon but not much for pentax, that would surely be best way to test new gear!

18-135 has been there for some time. Use primes usually only if going to take artsy pics of objects that are not moving.

Some stuff from Mumbai. Not for pixelpeeping, but liked the colour rendering + overall performance of the lense in street photography. |

i was planning to get 60-250 but now might to wait new zooms. my focusing problems would propably be more corrected with replacing k-5 with k-3. its difficult ro decide if low light performance could beat zoom range...! still 60-250 outperforms both as walkaround zoom with its lowest weight

Thanks for the compliments Jer! I've been driving water cooled since 2007. 911 would have been nice but wanted most new car with least mileage that I could afford and it was 968 back then. Owned two 968's (red 2007-2011, blue 2011-2013) which both ended to be quite track dedicated monsters. Quite capable car, can beat GT3 drivers on some tracks, espec. cornering and breaking performance was nice.
Sold street car 2013 and currently own 1984 944 Race car for Sports Cup Class 8A. Fun to see what happens, first race is on 17.5 which is not that far away anymore... Somehow back to "oldschool" now with less hp but race car is light so I'm waiting nible and vivid race action.
here's a pic of the current car in WIP. |

I have many old OM-lenses which would be very nice to use with Pentax K5. for instance 300/f4.5 would be most ideal for telephoto shooting.
Compact and robust, fits well Pentax portfolio!

Have brought sigma 50-150 2.8 into equation. Somehow it feels stupid to update camera and keep the same glass. K5 is fine in other areas expect low light. Of course it is bugging because i like to shoot in low light conditions (thats when light plays most of its magic). There would be a good deal on sigma 50-150 2.8 that seems to be a good glass and would help in some situations (of course not wr). Or then get k5IIs as a second body (and get mi wifey into pentax world also ,)
