It can be hit or miss, but I’ve had more good outcomes than not, and I think that holds for others at least who report back here. They’ve certainly gotten slower to deep discount the camera gear of late, but the occasional bargain still shows up.

Living in AK though not on a cruise ship, 55-300plm should be fine for the boat and any associated wildlife. I personally would want wider than the 20-40 allows (have a soft spot for 24mm landscapes). While the new 16-50plm would be fun, haven’t tried it and can’t comment. Had the prior SDM version and never really warmed to it. Will there be a land portion of the trip as well?
Was on vacation in southern Australia the past two weeks and took the DA15 and 20-40 as my entire kit. Between that and my phone, don’t feel like I missed any shots. Before the trip, had to decide between the DA11-18 and DA15 and couldn’t justify the weight/size of the 11-18 in my bag for two weeks.

I've got it's cheaper, slower, manual-er, trombonier counterpart from our friends at Leica in their Telyt 560/6.8 with shoulder stock if anyone wants reach on the cheap...

Received it two weeks ago and thus far it's been fun. Burned a few shots in failing to pull the darkslide or just working too quickly. It's a very manual process - would like to take the ISO wheel off of my old polaroid back and flange it on somehow to be able to automate the exposure work, but on the whole having fun with it. Wish I had the 110mm Sekor Z lens, but getting by with the 37/65/140 combo.

Another one is available at the moment for $698.
Off topic, snagged an HDFA43 the other day - missing the box but looks new at first glance otherwise. Fires fine on the camera and looks sharp, however, I noticed that the DOF ring is... misaligned. Also noticed some sort of wear mark on the front face to the side of the lens element. Anyway, plan to bag up and return. SN 6960000... or 0000969. :)
