Have you tried "Multi Auto White Balance" to eliminate one shot green another shot magenta?
The problem was mentioned in post 10-27-2018 as occurring from too high a shutter speed with light flicker/phase on the sport field.
The KP manual shows this setting on page 72 and has a few more words about it in the Memo section.

Suggest crop some of the top off, lift shadows on the owl, darken the sky.

Is this closer to what you are trying to achieve?
Adjusted white balance in ACR by sampling white in letters CAT, raised exposure, darkened the sky, widened the image

If your intent was to document the bridge, the image and its composition serve that purpose well.
For a camera club presentation this would be my critique.
In the original image the white area draws the eye to the distant bridge support but the foreground blocks the view and the foreground is sharper than the bridge support. The foreground and background fight for attention. I would crop the image. Below are 4 crops as examples any of which could be used. I prefer crop 4.

It would be interesting to know what the judge at the camera club said.

Questions when using Back Button Focus & locking AE when AF & linking AE to AF point

Questions when using Back Button Focus (bbf) & locking AE when AF and linking AE to AF point
KP camera refer to menu C1 items 5 & 6.

for bbf is this correct?
• When AE-L with AF locked is on (menu C1 item 6), exposure occurs and is locked when bbf is pressed
• When AE-L with AF locked is off, exposure occurs when bbf is pressed and again when shutter is pressed
• When AE-L with AF locked is off, if desired to lock AE, one of the FX buttons would have to be assigned to AE-L
• Meter operating time is as long as bbf is pressed? or
• Meter operating time is whatever time is set in the menu (KP camera menu C1 item 3)
• Metering time is not affected by AFC
• When AE & AF point are linked (menu C1 item 5), it overrides AE metering point (record menu item 1) which might be set to multi segment, center weighted or spot
If it does override it, why does AE metering (point) in record menu item 1 appear active. Should this be grayed out?

When shooting bif and most everything else I have been using AE & AF point linked and AE-L with AF locked and using spot AF and bbf. After thinking about composing the above questions I realize even though it might be good for bif it could be better if I turn these off in my user settings for artwork, landscape etc.

thanks, Bernie

The branch in front of the bird detracts from the subject, the bird. Also the sharpness and highlights of the branch detract. It can be fixed by cropping some of it out or at least by blurring it.

The background is the sky. It is too bright detracting from the bird. Dim and maybe blur the background.

There is too much space around the bird. Crop it to your taste.

Below is my version, including white balance adjusted

55-300 PLM and 1.4x aw rear converter metering incorrect

It meters correctly at all apertures - - - after any front or rear dial adjustment. The meter is wrong when the camera is turned on when lens is at 300mm. It always is at F9.5, auto iso is always at 100 and shutter always at 1/1000 with the shutter and aperture numbers blinking. After any front or rear dial adjustment it meters correctly.

regards, Bernie

Same thing happens in live view. The problem occurs both in bright sunlight and indoors.

I am okay not fixing this problem. The camera/ lens are fully usable and I can dial in any settings that I want after moving the front or rear dial. As soon as the front dial is moved to the next aperture (F10) or the rear dial moved to adjust shutter, metering is correct and the blinking stopped. The only thing to avoid is pressing the green button as aperture, shutter and iso go back to the same as when the camera was turned on (problematic).

thanks Bernie

55-300 PLM and 1.4x aw rear converter metering incorrect

When I turn on the KP in Program mode with HD Pentax DA AF 1.4X AW rear converter & 55-300 PLM mounted and lens extended to 300mm, the display shows exposure is wrong by blinking. If I take a picture it's totally black. With the rear converter and 55-300 PLM the readout is; shutter speed 1000, f 9.5, ISO 100. As soon as I turn the front or rear dial just a little to adjust shutter speed or aperture all the settings go into a proper exposure. The problem is repeated each time the camera is turned on. Cleaning the contacts has not fixed this.

I think the problem is a Pentax problem with the 55-300plm and converter because
• when turn on camera in P mode it meters incorrectly
• when turn on camera in any mode other than P it meters correctly
• P mode meters correctly after turning the front or rear dial
• when press the green button P mode meters incorrectly
• the converter and other lenses meter correctly in any/all modes when turn on camera

I hope someone else with the 55-300 plm & converter looks to see if the same problem exists with their equipment.

Received lens in unmarked box, is it new or refurbished?

Received lens and K-5 from AJ Richies. The lens has all the correct markings andlooks new. It bothered me that there was no cardboard cradle, just lens wrappedin bubble wrap sitting in bottom of the box.

Took a few pictures, lens operated correctly and resultslooked the same as photos taken of the same subject with other lens (DA 18-55 ALII non WR which is what I returned).

K-5 came in original packing from Pentax. The box had no space for a lens. My best guessis the last lens they sent me was separated from a K-7 or Kr kit.

Discovered from EXIF data that the K-5 was manufactured Aug28, 2011. From the serial number of the lens, looks like its from earlier 2010.

thank all of you for your comments, its reassuring.

(my first post on forum)

Received in a white box, Pentax DA 18-55 F3.5-5.6 WR inbubble wrap, no cardboard support, no markings on box but there was a UPC labelPN1855WROB. Box included PH-RBC lens hood, lens manual, serial number card andPentax Worldwide Service Network literature.
Newest camera the lens manual refers is to is K-7 and K-x,K-5 not mentioned.

Is the lens new from the manufacturer, new- split from a kit, refurbished, non US version or something else.

Here is how it happened; ordered K-5 with lens and US manufacturerswarranty SKU PENK51855US received K-5 with incorrect lens, shipped lens back andthen received white box as described above.

If someone helping me has questions please be aware I willbe unable to respond for about a week.

thanks, Bernie
