Like the photo's I am on the fence for a Q mainly because it has not many lenses. Non the less it seems to be a great set up.
What are your dislikes about the Q?

At least the Hernia and Cervical Disc Prolapse are for free. The great thing about Pentax is the Size of Camera's. The other day I switched from my EOS 1d mk2 to the Pentax and out of the blue I have a serious problem.
WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THE SPACE IN MY CAMERA BAG. (No I am not shouting it is a echo from the dark inarts of my back pack)
My Camera gear looks almost silly. The Nikon Glass is indeed nice and the F2.8 G Zooms will kick az.So does Canon L glass and Sony G glass

Good piont... but I assume that the price will go down on the FF sensor and at that stage Ricoh or Pentax will hopefully jump on the band wagon.
It is sad that Pentax has not confirmed a release for this type of camera. But I will just holding out till it arrives, in the end switching now might be to soon. If really desparet will get a Eos 5d and an adapter.

I am just waiting on the Pentax-k mount FF module for the Ricoh GXR. I can not imagine that we will see a FF DSLR from Pentax.

This thread makes for good reading.
I jumped from a leica based system. (Say what!!!) yes from Leica to Pentax. Pentax has in my opinion a very solid offering and with Ricoh on-board it will be a great future ahead.Plus the MZ-s is a great camera for film and the K5 is very solid as well,.
First They have everything from very good lenses to very good weather sealed camera;s even large format camera's. The new K-01 fits into that offering. As I see it
- Q is great for point and shoot
- K-01 is great m43 replacement but providing access to K mount major bonus...
- K5 Dslr is just what it is.. a class leading camera
- 645D is taking a gun to a knife fight, simply awesome.
My 2 cents on the Fuji camera's is that they look good but they just do not cut it. I appreciate it when a camera manufacturer sticks to their mount. Why, well I am happy to spend money on lenses but if the manufacturer drops them in a few years time you will be stuck,.

How would you rate the look overall?
4
-Does the 40mm fit the camera well?
No would go for the old version
-Are you planning on buying one based on what you've read about it in the official announcement?
Tempted between this one and the new olympus.
-In buying a camera, how important is the look compared to the features? Very important, somewhat important, or unimportant?
Minnor. functionality is most important
-How do you think people who've never heard of Pentax would react to this camera?
laugh:)

Thanks Kevin.
Pictures say more than words that is for sure. I actually started using film since her passing because I found Digital photos to clinical.
I am sorry for your and your wife's loss.

The Pen has a focus assist as in you can magnify and then check focus. On youtube there are a few clips showing how it works. I believe the assist in the panasonic m4/3 is much better, but I have not tried it.
ps. The adapters are very cheap (ebay)

Hi Jake, It is not very easy to manual focus. I used my Leica R lenses via and adapter. Was not that keen on the whole expirience.

I use the E-p3 for family snap shots. It is compact and has very fast focus.
So in my bag I have e-p3 for snap shots and a K5 or Mz-s for when I want to have fun :) The Pen camera's are a good second camera to have on the side. Even as a main camera I would be happy with a E-p3. .

If you can rent the K-5 I would just do that and not worry about Canon and Nikon till you have tried it. The K-5 might surprice you and might be just what you wanted. Just run it trhough its paces at home and all your current problems might be a thing from the past.
Will nikon or Canon be faster... sure they probably are with the right lenses... If AF speed is all you worry about go for it but at one point you might want to shoot photos of your kids in the rain. At that stage you might want to go back to Pentax.
I used to shoot Canon 1d mark 2 and 7d's with Canon L glass - Weather proof.
- Very fast AF
- Sharp
- HEAVY AND CUMBERSOME
but yes a very nice set up. It was however heavy for shooting kids and therefore I used it 0nly on special trips. For my kids photos I mainly used an Olympus Pen E-p3) camera and a Nikon 35TI (point and shoot)
E-p3 fast af and very handy compact body and compact lenses.

Wanted to add: Renting would also help with checking the menu structure and ergonomics of the camera. I use my Pentax more because it just handles better. You might have better performance from Canon but the menu and dial layout drove me nuts.

I agree with Kenyee, Create a short list and rent them. When finished you can post a comparision review. Maybe there are a few Pentax k-5 users in your area that can help?
I would love to see a shoot out, under the conditions that you specified.

Hi Peter
I moved between different systems (Sony to Olympus to Canon to Pentax) What I learned was that all the selling up and moving to new systems was not needed. Let me explain, you just swap one problem for the other. A year from now a better AF system or a new sensor system will take the headlines on the camera forums. Like currently the Sony A77 does or the new Canon dx
My advise by fast lenses and stick with Pentax. Next year you will have the next Pentax Dslr and than you will ask on a Nikon forum. "so I want to upgrade, D700 vs competition?"
Ps if you really want fast autofocus and heaps of fun. buy film and not megapixals.:) The Pentax Mz-s is cheap as chips.

The Fa43 was on my list but the budget did not stretch that far after x-mas spending was over budget:(
I can get a DA40 for about 300 usd. (second hand)

Hi all,
I have been looking all over the internet to see if I could find a nice and small pancake lens for my MZ-S. I saw a DA 40mm but did not buy it since the DA 40mm is a "digital only" lens. I however read that the DA 40mm is compatible with full frame "Film" camera's.
Questions:
Does it fully work with a MZ-S?
Any experience with this combo?
Any feedback would be appriciated.
Cheers
Gidion
