Definitive Ruling on K-30 Shutter Sound?

I have bought it at B&H just the day it came out. I have a K5 also, and the K-30 shutter sound is way more noticeable, albeit not annoying to me at all. It was actually the first thing I noticed. The second was that the autofocus is really much more precise on each of the lenses I have, compared to the K5. But that's off topic I guess.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 focus ring

Hi,
I have a simple question. If you own a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, and you set your camera to manual focus, is the movement of the focus ring smooth? In my copy, it seems to go in discrete positions, almost as an aperture ring. It doesn't happen with the Tamon 17-50, so I wonder if I should send it back for repairs.

Thanks
Alessandro

PK-Tether mcro focus adjustment issue

Hi,
after I bought a Tamron 17-50, which was front focusing more than I could compensate with the -10 setting in my k5, I decided to go with pk-tether debug mode and, considering that most of my lenses tend to front focus, I set the compensation to -90, and then recalibrated all my lenses.
All good, in the sense that now I genereally get perfect focus with all my FA limited primes and various zooms, at regular distances (everything but infinite), The issue is that, ad infinite, the autofocus simply doesn't lock, the lens focus get set to infinite but the green light keeps blinking, and I need to switch to manual focus, set to infinite and take the picture.
Has this ever been experienced by anybody?
My understanding of how the global adjustment would work is simply a value that is added (or removed) by the autofocus algorithm in order to decide how much the screw drive has to run to adjust the focus, so changing it should not affect the ability to focus per se, but maybe now it thinks it should still be able to keep going a little bit after infinite?
This happens regularly with the FA 77, the FA 43 and even with some zooms.
I can adjust the lens more to the positive side (for instance, with a +5 fine adjustment), but then it becomes front focused with close subjects (and yes, I know all about the size of the sensor, and I am testing that on reasonable subjects).

Thoughts?

Thanks
Alessandro

Thanks Mike, really appreciated your comment.

Of course I asked her to stay just a little still... I can understand how that may have translated in "don't even try to move for a second".
I fought quite a bit on the purple fringing in this picture, the original was quite under exposed and bringing in lightroom made it even more evident. Unfortunately the 77mm (which otherwise I love) is a bit prone to it, isn't it?
Here is another example taken a few minutes after:

The full size jpeg is here

This was exposed better, and I noticed less fringing, but the "monolith" protruding right behind her (and some stitching error) makes me prefer the first one. What do you think?

Super resolution with K5

I guess it would make sense, considering that the interpolation of adjacent pixels could cause some level of interference with the bayer pattern, and that's probably why it's more evident in the color photos. I have to say that I have added quite some sharpening in LR4 and that probably made it even more obvious.

Hi,
I have been playing around with the concept of bokehrama (or Brenizer method) and had quite some fun pushing my K5 to imitate a medium format type of output. Being quite new at trying to do some more decent semi portraiture, I am curious to know if I made some obvious mistake in this picture, for composition or processing (LR 4).
This is a downsized version:

And here is a link to the original.

Comments and criticism are welcome, just keep in mind that I am quite a beginner...
Thanks

Super resolution with K5

I am sure that many here (this is my first post) are already familiar with Photo Acute stacking and super resolution capabilities, but I haven't seen it used it for portraits. With the very decent shooting speed of the K5, it's actually easy to do, even handheld, as long as your subject can stay a bit still for a second.

So, a little time ago, I was having this conversation with my Nikonian friend, who was bragging about the D800 (with some merit, I have to say), and I asked him to participate in this experiment, shot with the FA 50mm at f5.6 for sharpness, 1/60 sec.

This was a stack of 6 pictures. I know the subject is not the most interesting, and it was a really cold morning and you can tell, but it was fun to see his disbelief at seeing that the "lowly" Pentax could generate a 50 megapixel image.
Here's a link to the original (no point to try to embed it here I guess)

Here is another example of close up (still with the FA 50mm, this time at f1.4, and it's a bit softer):

And a more stationary subject, with the kit lens.

I just thought to share it, so that we don't focus only on the recent price increases...

Pentax K-5 and external HDMI LCD screen

Looking for something that could do as a tiltable/flippable LCD screen, I found this field monitor which seem to be quite cheaper and still with a good build. Anybody ever tried it?
