A pinetree and the moon

I took a stroll with my old M 100mm F2.8 attached to my K-3 and was caught by a talkative neightbour and it grew too dark for photographing, I thought. But I was wrong. On a forest slope a pinetree stood tall with a crescent beside it. The temperature was freezing and my hands as well, so I didn´t take time to adjust the ASA and ended up at an unneccecary long shutterspeed of 1/20 sec at f4. Thanks to the eminent image stabilizing system I got it sharp without a tripod. Thanks Pentax!

All photos are great, but I am mostly touched by no 6, which I think also from a technichal point of view is a great shot.

I bought the M100/2.8 and the M35/2 with an MX body back in -78, and that was basically my photo equipment together with a Minox for almost 30 years until I turned digital with the Pentax "cousin" Samsung GX-1L around -06/-07(well, I had a couple of compact digitals from Minolta and Panasonic also parallelly). The Samsung SLR has given place to a K-r and recently a K-3. Back to the lenses; I loved both of them and still do, although I must admit I hardly use them any more in favour of A-lenses. They are extremely well-built (as all M-lenses) compact, fast and sharp. In comparision had a Super Takumar 135/3.5 with an older M-42 analog body, and it´s sharpness left a bit to be desired, so I sold it in India on a trip there -77 and got more paid for it as new due to extreme customs in India in those days (with the risk of being prosecuted when I left the country). The M100/2.8 is much sharper. The only thing is that it is a bit too long for my liking with the crop factor of 1,5.

I submit a photo to this month´s photo contest "Motion" from this years 24h Le Mans race; a Chevrolet Corvette C6-ZR1 entered by Larbre Competition. It´s not that very special, but it sure has a bit of motion in it, I think.

How to fix a loose front lens?

Wow! You certainly have a wealth of knowledge! Thanks to your advice the front filter ring of the SMC-M lens is already fixed! The ring with the name and numbers on was a bit loose, so I could unscrew it from the filter thread with my nails! Underneath it are the screws you mentioned. Mine were Phillips, and with my smallest slotted screwdriver (my smallest Phillips was a size too big, I think) it was easy to fasten them. I will have a look at the Takumar 55 mm with the same problem when time comes (I´m more into K-mount lenses, since I don´t like the stopping down aperture procedure).
This site is awsome! I hade figured to get an answer maybe in a few days at best, not being sure I could use the advices I hopefully got, and now the lens is already fixed! My support has already paid itself back many times.

How to fix a loose front lens?

I have bought a SMC M f 1,7 50 mm on Tradera (the Swedish brand of e-bay) which unfortunately came with it´s front (with the filter thread) loose :(. Atlhough it probably doesn´t affect the optical performances of the lens, it obviously completely ruins the quality feeling of older Pentax´ lenses, not the least with it´s rattling noise!
Before I go ahead with the hassle and demand the seller to take the lens back or make a reimbursement from the price (which btw was 75$, not very chep either), I would like to know if it is possible to fasten it and how difficult it is to disassemble the lens to do it. I have heard of people who have done that, and although I am hesitant to try it myself, I would like to know how to do it. The alternative is to send it to a workshop to get it fixed, but I´m afraid that would be unproportionately expensive. Besides I have a Takumar M42 f 2,0 55 mm with the same issue, although not as servere, so it would be nice to know how to do the operation and fix both!

Howdy from Sweden

Hallo all. I´m glad I have found this forum, ´cause my photo hobby needed a boosting. I live in Sweden and am a Pentax fan since the beginning of the 70´ies. Actually even before that, when I as a photointerested scoolboy admired the design of the Spotmatic SLR-cameras and was drooling over pictures of them in photo magazines not affording to buy any. After my compact half format camera, a Canon Demi EE 1.7 (a lovely camera albeit no Pentax, I still miss it), was stolen 1974 on an arab circus I was travelling with during a month on a trip through North Africa together with my girlfriend (that is; I was travelling with her, she wasn´t stolen too...), I bought a used Pentax ES, the first Pentax with automatic exposure, when I came home. It followed me on a 8 months long trip overland in Asia a few years later in 1977-78. Coming home I bought a Pentax MX, a real beauty both when it comes to mechanics and design. I have also had a pair of Minox´es, a Leica CL and a couple of digital compacts, before I 2007 bought a Samsung GX1 due to its Pentax inheritance and compatibility and in may this year, before I went on a bike trip with a friend to Croatia, I invested in a Pentax K-r. Being used to the high quality feeling of my Takumar and SMC Pentax M-lenses (24, 35, 55, 100 and 200 mm) for the ES and MX, I´m not very enthusiastic about the kit-zooms that came along with the camera, so the last weeks I have spent quite some time reading reviews on your site on old Pentax lenses and bidding on e-bay in order to broaden the line up I have. The next thing is to change the focusing screen on the K-r.
Since I stopped using my MX and went digital, I have lost a bit of the amusement with photographing. The all automatic cameras take the joy out of it! I like photographing to be more of a handicraft, although I am not any longer willing to sit for hours and days in a dark room and enjoy the possibility to PP in Photoshop (Elements in my case). Although you can use them manually, I lack the feel of an aperture ring between my fingers, so I am really glad I have found this site where I can feel at home and dwell for hours. I guess I have to submit a few Skr to support the server costs etc, because my old photo hobby has gotten a kick after realizing that you can both be digital and analog at the same time, so to speak, and this site fills in beautifully in between. This summer I will go to the 24h race at Le Mans in France, and maybe to the Faeroe Islands with my wife, and both will be great photografic trips, I´m sure. Happy new year to you all Pentax´ friends!
