Great job.

I've taken my 7 year old Grandson twice this year to see old trains. We are competing with so much when it comes to getting kids interested in this kind of stuff.

I hated even saying it. From what I've seen of you images I would have expected it to be tack sharp. I'm glad I didn't cross any boundaries by saying something stupid. :)

Folks take this kind of thing way to serious. It's just as picture. You do the best you can and move on to the next one.

If you shoot JPEG with your $5000 camera/lens the camera has made all the decisions for you. If you shoot RAW you get to decide. As much as we would like to think it is, it isn't rocket science. Take the time to learn LR and PS or not, it really doesn't matter.

Have Fun!

Great street shot. It seems a little soft but the overall shot makes up for that.

Nice choice for B&W.

This image was taken in downtown Raleigh on walk around with my wife. I don't remember what the name of the building is. It's probably been bought and sold since then anyway.

The lens is not showing up in LR and it could be one of several I had back then.

I like it with one side of her face shaded a little. It gives character and depth.

Here is a picture with her shaded side brightened just a little.

Of course this is quick and dirty so don't judge too harshly.

Bentonville Battle Reenactment

Here is a slideshow of just photographs I took of the Reenactors at the 150th Bentonville Battle Civil War Reenactment. This battle was significant in that it was the last battle between Union General William T. Sherman and Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston. This was the last major battle of the American Civil War. This will also be the last event for many of the reenactors and that's why I made a special effort to photograph as many as I could. There were many I didn't photograph. The photos were taken on March 21, 2015.

There is one picture in the slideshow that wasn't taken at Bentonville. I took the picture of the cannon at the Averasboro Battlefield a few miles away.

I used a Pentax K-5 II S and a Sigma 17-50 F2.8 EX DC OS HSM. I did a quick color grade by processing an image in LR with the look I wanted and making a preset. I then applied the preset to all the images. I had to make some minor adjustments but it worked out pretty well.

People want what they want and you can't really convince them otherwise, they know best. While saying that, the branches that intersect her head are not helpful. I would start all over again.

Of course you could always put in a completely new background. One that is much more pleasing. With her hair color and blue shirt it shouldn't be that difficult.

It is a very interesting image. The problem I see is the whole beak area appears out of focus. The eyes appear in focus which is very important when doing animal photos but it's hard to tell. Bring out some brightness around the eyes and the head. It would help to make the bird stand out a little and becomes our immediate focus. Right now it just blends in. Good luck-nice image.

Nature What do you think.. to PP or not PP

The question is, is sit too much/ too little or is it the right post processing. The original image just "sits there." It obviously needs to be properly processed. That all depends on your ability with the software and your experience.

On this particular image you could have easily applied a Curves Adjustment Layer and dialed in the Opacity the bring the image contrast and "life." It probably could have used a High Pass Filter, set to soft light, and dialed in with the Layer Opacity Slider. Those are two very simple things that can be done after the regular processing in LR. I am assuming you are shooting in RAW and using LR and PS. (Of course much more can be done to the image to make it more pleasing to the eye.) If not just adjust your work flow accordingly depending on your files and software. If you are shooting JPEG than the camera has done most of the important stuff for you.

Okay you are just plain lucky! What a great place to take pictures. Great job, well done.

Edit: It just shows that a K5 can take pictures as well as any camera out there with the right person pressing the shutter.

I still find it difficult sometimes to choose to do BW or not. I think it just comes with experience and maybe spending a lot of time on somewhere like 500px looking at pictures. If I had to make a choice I'd go with PP2.

I think it's a great picture and tells an interesting story. To me the black and white works very well. In PP I would have toned down the protesters and made the little girl the highlight of the photo.

Beautiful subject and a great expression on her face. I really like the composition. The only things I would say as constructive criticism is they eyes don't have any life to them at all. I don't know if this could have been fixed in camera or during processing. The bright spot above her dress draws all the attention. I can't really tell if it's blown out or not but it should be fixed. Really a great picture. I don't know if it's possible but I would love to see another of this beautiful woman.
