Have you ever heard of dumb luck. As far as technique, guess and by golly. Exif data explains my set up, but every night sky will be different, how much light pollution, what phase is the moon in? Where is it at in relationship to your subject?
I was in a pretty dark area with minimal light pollution, 3/4 moon about 4 hours after rise and about 1-1/2 hours past sunset. Light was incredible for what I was looking for. To damn bad I didn’t have a full charge on the only battery I own. I only scratched the surface on this place.
Fairly new to night shooting, so this is a single exposure. Looking forward into diving deeper in multi exposures and brackets.

First night out with the KP, I took a drive up to the Painted Mines, East of Colorado Springs. You would think I would have checked my Battery level before driving an hour and then walking 20 minutes. I took about 20 shots before the battery said enough. Dammit. I really enjoy the potential of this camera. I hate the battery life.

Thanks for the info. I can’t wait to give it a shot with the KP. I did a work shop some years ago and we did a little Astro. I had some pretty good shots I thought, but nothing compared to what I’m seeing. Unfortunately both of my hard drives died within a couple days locking all 30k photos up in a time capsule that has not opened as of yet.
Here is one from that workshop.

Just wanted to say a quick hello. Long time member that fell off the map for a time. I have been doing a little lurking and I have seen enough. Once upon a time I had the Sigma 70 and loved it, but I really wanted a little longer. So as I fell away form Photography I sold some glass, the 70 was one that I had a hard time letting go, the other was the 31 but that’s another story.
So many great shots here. I have the itch again and you guy’s didn’t help! I bought the KP a couple of weeks ago now it’s time to add a Macro again. There are some truly stunning shots from a couple of lenses that I am interested in. So I’m leaning towards the 90 Tamron any major reasons I should rethink this?
Here is a shot with the K20 and the Sig 70.

Nice job! looking forward to a little Astro myself. Pretty easy learning curve? Did you set it up to shoot remote from your tablet?
I really like the first one.

I love this lens so, it’s worth another bump, my copy is tack sharp on both the K-10 and K-20. Can’t wait to put it threw the paces on the KP.

Just bought it! I will post some shots tonight. I love what I am seeing so far. As far as the grip goes, I will be making a bad ass wood grip that fits my big mitts.

Over processed.... OK. but not a bad shot for 70 mm. Eagles can be a challenge. Keep working at it.
