That is interesting….but I can only speak from my own experience.

I must persevere and make sure I am not making some basic error:o

On the K70 I can compose and focus in live view and press the shutter button and it takes a picture instantly.

On the KP I find there is a ‘lag’ before the shutter operates and can not get it to take a decent picture hand held…..unless I am doing something wrong??

I have both and have not really noticed much difference in the images they produce….but I also have a Kr which also produces good images, viewed on a pc screen which is what I tend to do.

One difference between the K70 and the KP is that taking pictures in live view is far better on the K70….I find the KP live view very ‘clunky’ and tend not to use it.

I also think the KP feels smaller and lighter although, in reality, there is not much difference….for these reasons I use a tripod more often with the K70 (and zoom lenses)

Time to convince 3rd party Lens manufacturers to support Pentax

Indeed

Until relatively recently most of the major manufacturers made PK fit lenses. I have third party lenses made by Tamron, Sigma and Vivitar…..and they are AF.

In the past most manufacturers made a PK fit….you only have to look through the third party lens reviews on this site to see how many there were.

Unfortunately the market for PK lenses has shrunk and there are now very few….sign of the times.

At least, Ricoh/Pentax are continuing with DSLR cameras and there are a vast amount for PK lenses available second hand

I tend not to get rid of anything that works well.......unless you are desperate for the money.

It usually happens that you miss it once it has gone and what you would get for it would less than it would cost to replace it.

Lenses take up very little room so are not difficult to store.

I have learned the hard way!

I started with a Ricoh KR 10 super (PK fit) and then a K1000.

Not sure what this counts as?

I think that this thread is really clarifying things in my own mind....it is probably as much psychological as physical.

I also think that digital photography has made things a bit less interesting for me....when I shot film I had to think a bit more and make a bit more effort as film was finite and the number of shots was limited and that a required a bit more thought.....but that is a whole different discussion I suppose

Thanks for those replies so far.
I think I realise that carrying less in the answer...when I used to use slide Film I carried one camera with a 50 mm prime lens and, probably, took far more and better pictures than now...I really ought to return to that mindset.

Same with fishing gear...carry far to much and it is actually more limiting rather than give me more options

No fool like an old fool!

Seriously though....does anyone have any ideas about transporting a larger amount of gear over fairly flat ground?

To be honest, I find it a pain to carry any weight on a hike any more....even a single camera or, even binoculars.

I have got to the point where I am either walking or taking pictures and the two no longer mix for me.

I even found carrying a compact too much hassle...I am not unfit...simply can’t be bothered.

Hence: how do theirs carry their gear to take pictures other than simply hiking

I have the same trouble carrying my fishing gear nowadays.....and yet I walk miles Most days.

Not sure where to post this

I am getting on a bit now, at least it feels like it!

I am starting to get back into photography a bit more seriously, although have always had an interest since buying my first proper camera, a Ricoh Kr10 super in the early 1980’s.

I have 3 Pentax dslr’s and a large compact (Canon G1x) and several lenses plus Tripods etc.

My problem is carrying the stuff around!!

I like landscapes and nature, but to carry any amount of stuff off the beaten track is becoming nigh on impossible....hence my loss of interest at times....the compact was supposed to solve all that but made my photography more of the ‘snapshot’ variety which does not really interest me.

What do other members do to transport their gear?

I have thought about using one of my fishing trolleys and boxes which would I think would work, as I now live in the Fens, but I am interested in how others manage?

Not sure what I did there?

I tried to ‘like’ your post and hope it did not come out as ‘unlike’.

I agree... the Tamron probably gives better results but, for me, it is not all about ‘results’.

I have 100 mm f4 macro which I bought s/h years ago and which I still use even in preference to a Tamron f2.8 90 mm which I bought years later.

The 100mm is just so nice to use and I love the feel of it and the results.

I think the version I have is from 2001....I doubt if many cameras could take RAW pictures then.....certainly not at consumer level.

RAW processing

I am sure this has cropped up a lot:o

I have used digital for a number of years but have always relied on jpegs.

I really ought to try RAW. I have had a couple of attempts using the software supplied with cameras (Kr, Ist DL2 and Canon G6) but don't really know what I am doing:o

I used to do my own E6 processing so am not completely helpless.

I have Photoshop 6 but it does not support RAW???
What would be the best (and easiest to learn) program to complement this?

I have never updated the PS6. and don't think I could now....I got it as part of a package from Jessops in the UK and now live in Brisbane.

Any advice appreciated

So What if K-Mount is Discontinued?

Not sure why Ricoh would discontinue the K mount?

I first owned a Ricoh camera over 30 years ago and, as far as I know, Ricoh always used the K mount for their cameras.

I got into Pentax because Pentax lenses were compatible with Ricoh and vice versa.
