Have had this camera for two months now and really enjoy it. Coupled with the 300 F4 for nature shots.
Can someone give some advise to me please ? I find it very hard to shot single shots. Every time I press the shutter I take at least two sometime 3 shots, only intending to take on e.
HOWEVER
have it set on High speed Continuous as at a moments notice have to spring into action for birds in flight. Never had this issue with the KP. Not a big issue, but takes longer to cull the shots and do not want to wear the shutter out.
ii
Thanks in advance

Congrats on the new camera. I just got one also, to supplement an aging K5. The 55-300 plm is on back order.
Happy Easter & Happy shooting

Thanks
Just thought of another point in favour of the grip...I s that it takes the larger L-190 battery, which is a better performer in the cold winter. I see you live in a colder part of the U.S....Like wise you too Mike. Do you agree ?
Thanks

Mike
Once again thanks for the info. Can tell there is a learning curve on this one.Wish lived closer. Not many avid nature photographers around here. Let alone folks that own a Pentax ! Am pleased with results so far, but will take lots more pics to say it performs better that the K5. Going out again today with it, try out the setting you suggested.
I may order the battery grip, but it is fairly expensive if I don't use it much. Will just take a spare battery with me, they are small.

Thanks again Mike
. My 18-55 is not WR, will probably sell it with the KR. Do you have or ever considered the Battery grip for your KP. Guess it adds allot to the size, which takes away from one of the main advantages. I find the grip will take a bit of getting use to coming from the K5. I live on the Ottawa River shore, and we are just getting our first flock of geese and other waterfowl migrating. So it has been in action already, just on the default settings. Will be spending the rest of the afternoon in front of a fire and read the manual. Still all iced and snowed in, but saw the first robin today.

Thank you so much for the email. Camera arrived today, the 55-300 plm, perhaps next week. I think they will be a great combo. I also have a Pentax KR, an 18-55, and 35mm macro. and for some underwater shots & rainy, choppy days have Panasonic TS3.I can see a big learning curve with the KR, and will be out with it this afternoon.
I really like the small size as it will fit nicely in a pack I have on the mountain bike and a small cubby hole in the kayak.
Thanks again !!

Have a KP and the 55-300 plm on the way. $230.00 off the lens if you order the camera and lens together. ( Henry's in Toronto Canada ) The plm will probably never come off, and will be used for nature photography. Kayak, mountain bike etc. Shots mostly Jpeg. I have read at time to elect for SHARP image for setup. Are there any other setting that should be instated for this type of photography. I also have the K5 with 55-300 DA ( this is replaced by the KP, but will be kept )
Thanks, in advance for any information.

Yes that is a great price, but does that include the Canadian warranty ?? Do not think Amazon is a Pentax dealer.

Thanks to all. The pic of the telephoto and the thin film camera sure put it in perspective. And yes...a bit of "Pentax Faith' ( like that term ) Once I do the unboxing of everything, will let you know.
tks

I may just order it. If it has 3 grips surely one of them will be satisfactory.

Thanks. I do like the grip on my K5 and the KR. Have taken the ergonomics for granted on Pentax cameras until now. Photo quality however is the prime consideration. The 55-300 will probably never come off of it. How does it balance with this camera ?
Thanks everyone !

Thanks to all. Thee is no Pentax Dealer near where I live. Have heard of the ergonomic issue. But the image quality the special price are tempting.

Bit of a decision. I presently have a K5. Have plans to replace it this year, as it has 133,000 on it. I use this camera exclusively with the DA 55-300. Am relatively satisfied with the results.
This camera and lens are taken mountain biking, kayaking, snowshoeing etc. Had planned on a K3ii before they area all gone. But now I see Henry's cameras in Toronto have a special. Buy the KP and get $230.00 off the 55-300 plm. Had planned on the PLM anyway, just wondering any advice going to the KP instead of K3ii. Can anyone advise. Is there someone with experience in both ? I do realize the larger buffer, better battery life, and a 200,00 shutter.
I do anticipate a quicker auto focus just because of the lens. I would use the K5( with the DA 300) as a backup and possibly get rid of my KR.
Hope this is the correct forum
Thanks

I believe the quality of that 300 F4 would be amazing. The price and the size would be problematic for me. I have a hatch in a kayak and a carrier on the bicycle that accommadate the DA 55-300, and it just fits.. Sure would like to try it though..

Thanks to all. Appreciate very much as have been given lots of advise. Even to re consider K311 or KP rather than the K70. I will not be moving on this until early next year but what to have my mind made up in case I see a good price, can act.
Thanks again, this is a great group !!

I realize that the PLM will not function properly on the K5.(.aperature) Other than that would it be okay. I usually shoot wide open and a high shutter speed.Think will forego any extender as I should realize a difference in the crop with the increased sensor size on the K70.
Thanks to all for the info..very helpful.. jgnfld..a beautiful province province

Thanks Adam
AS long as it is the same or better with clarity, I know the auto focus and lack of noise will be a real bonus. Looking forward to it. Amazon have the K70 for $689 Canadian ( fairly good price ). Are thee any know reliability issues with the K70, or is it to soon to realize.

I presently use a Pentax K5 with a Pentax DA 55-300 . The camera still works great, take excellent pictures and is like an old friend to me. I have had the camera and lens combo for six years and it is now over the exposure count. I intend to use it as a back up ( along with a KR ), and invest in a Pentax K70 with the new 55-300 PLM. My question is the clarity on the new zoom at full out 300mm . Is it comperable to the old DA lens or not. Have heard at full 300, is not to sharp, and have seen some photo examples that I was not to impressed with. ( I know the PLM will not partner up with the K5 & KR...what a shame )
At 6.3 wide open aperature is it worth putting the 1.4 extender on? I am only interested in wildlife ( odd landscape photo ) & it has to be very portable
I have been away from this forum due to ongoing health issues. Good to be in the out of doors and not in a hospital bed.
Thanks
John:)
