Thanks for the comments.
I have tried the old Spotmatic lens on the K10D and found the results pleasing. The biggest issue was focusing manually without the support of a split screen.
I have been reading the lens reviews, in fact. Plenty of time at this stage to make a decision about equipment, fortunately.

I have been a member and a reader for quite some time. Have not posted though preferring to acquire data from multiple sources (about lots of things).
I was, as a younger person, really keen on photography as a career though a family move reduced the exposure to photography substantially so it became a background rather than a foreground activity. As a much older person now it has risen back up the interest and commitment ladder.
I have the following equipment:
Pentax K10D with battery grip + remote
Sigma kit lenses - 18-50 + 55-200 DA series
Pentax - screw mount adapter
Pentax SFXn - zoom (cant remember just what at the moment)
Canon S2 IS - great all rounder
Pentax Spotmatic with 55mm F1.8 lens
Elicar 200mm tele (screw mount)
Metz flash - 32 Z-2
When I purchased the K10D over 12 months ago I went for the lower price Sigma kit lenses to see what I liked, what worked and what I would like to use next. After using digital cameras for a few years and particularly the Canon with its mega-zoom capability finding the best lenses for my purpose has been an evolving process.
As I am heading to Canada for a holiday later in 2009 I am now seriously considering what lenses I could upgrade to. Research in progress...
