Please help with sky fringing

Hi, after importing dng file into Camera raw 7, working on it, then clicking on - Open image - transporting image to Photoshop 6 to convert it into JPEG file ( the sky still looks good), then I close and save the file into My pictures. But when I open the file (with XNview), the sky looks terrible, not sure what the correct English term is, perhaps fringing, so I am including an example. Also how do I keep the original dng file? After sending the image to Photoshop, dng file with the post processing is saved, whereas I would like to keep the original dng file. Please advise how to avoid this, thank you Danny.

Processing in Lightroom 3.6

Hi everyone, just received my K5 with the instruction book that will keep me out of life for a while, on top of that Lightroom installed on the computer and with me trying to learn both, almost makes me a geek (not that there is anything wrong with that). Can someone please take a time to tell me step by step from importing files to closing them. I can get the files to lightroom, I can work on them, in a basic sort of way, but after I finish working with the file what do I do. I want to rename and save the retouched photo in raw format (or dng), i also want to send that file to photoshop to work on it some more and save as jpeg or psd. (Any reason why saving in psd is better than jpeg?) Can I then delete the original file that was imported to LR? Anything else that will be usefull? Thank you for your help, Danny

Processing in Adobe bridge, and other questions

Hi everyone, as I am trying different things with processing RAW files, I found that in Adobe bridge (with CS3) I can not go back on any adjustment like in Photoshop when I am working with the picture and I cannot rename that picture. I can improve it and save it there or send it to Photoshop to work on it, but I can not save it in raw again (I now recall that it might be possible to save it in Photoshop RAW), since I am working wth 16 bit, to save as jpeg I have to drop it to 8 bit. In 16 bit I can save the picture in TIFF format, can this be viewed in any picture viewer(unlike RAW pictures)? Regarding K5, we can see histogram after we take a picture, can we see it while we are taking the picture? I can not see that option in the manual,( my Sony H5 has it). What is the highest usable ISO? And finally, when you are traveling and taking pictures, how do you know where is the picture from, unless it Eiffel tower or similar? In the days of film ( not so many pictures taken as now), I used to put details on piece of paper that I promptly lost somewhere. Thanks, regards Danny

Hi again you guys are really helpful, thanks for that. Just got my K5 with 16-45, 35 f2.4 and 55-300 lenses. When I looked into latest firmware it shows ver. 1.13 which is the latest right? Before I get stuck in the manual (I will not be seen for many month then), I am trying to get some photos, just experimenting, having fun, checking lenses etc. Somehow though I feel that bigger problem will be processing the raw or dng files. I have Photoshop CS3 with adobe bridge CS3, RawTherapee WinXP_32_4.0.9.50 and latest Pentax digital camera utility. Can you please answer few questions? So I will select one of the programs, probably Photoshop, because I am familiar with it and import pictures. I guess they will be displayed then ( seen as pictures) so that I can work on them. And then what? When I finish my work on a picture, I would like to keep the end result in my album, so I will save in jpeg put it in album? Can I save the corrected picture in raw as well? I also noticed people discussing front and back focusing issues. What is the simplest test for those? And the adjustment is on the camera or the lens? All this will allow me to read and play at the same time, like a little boy with a new toy I am, so enjoyable. There it is, thanks for your help, Danny

My K5 arrives tomorrow and I want to go out and shoot some pictures. After I satisfy myself, are there any steps I have to take regarding the camera or lens? Any checking of the camera? Updates - do I do only the last one, or all of them? Do I have to format the new SDHC cards? Are any settings on the camera considered generally better than others? Thanks for your help, Danny

Thanks guys, well I am just trying to avoid lugging too many lenses with me. Ill have 16-45, 35mm, and either tammy 90, sigma 70 or pentax 55-300. But it seems that because I like to take pictures of animals, birds etc I will have to buy 55-300 and buy sigma or tammy later, Danny

Hi all, I am thinking about buying either Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 SP Di macro or Sigma AF 70mm f/2.8 EX DG macro. Originaly I was going to buy pentax 55-300, but was told that if I crop the picture from either of the two other lenses, I would get a better result, better IQ. Would you agree? Which of the two would you recomend? Thanks, regards Danny

Hi , I am buying Pentax K5 (not only) for my upcoming trip. Could you please help me with suggestion satisfying this criteria: max of two lenses, covering macro, portrait, wildlife and landscape. After reading the lens reviews I realize that a compromise will probably have to be reached covering this situation. Also what size memory card would you suggest. Thanks for your help, Danny
