Hello everyone!
My question today is about sending the K10D and my 31mm ltd to Pentax for calibration.
Has anyone had this done? Did it improve the performance? And how long did it take to have it done. Should this be done before warranty lapses. :D

I really would like to stick with the prime lenses, DA* or limited. Also if an indoor sport needs to be shot than a fast lens. So................. a prime, DA* ltd,FAST.

I have an itch. I have been researching these lenses for days now and still undecided which lens to purchase for acton sports. I have been using my 31mm ltd and cropping them for close-ups. This works and pictures are very nice, but...................... need advice from those who shoot action sports. The question here is, which one to purchase.

I noticed when I shake my K10D slightly, you can feel the wobble in the lens with a sound of the lens play.

Thank You for the information. I went to the site you had recommended. Interesting for sure.
I don't think they should be loose like that for the money and quality of the lens. It worries me some. I did call Pentax and they said to ship my K10D and the lens and they will set the camera up focus wise with the lens and fix the wobble. The only drawback is 4 weeks without my K10D and lens. I don't think I would be able to handle that to well.
He also mentioned that it should not have any wobble in the lens period!
Im looking at purchasing a DA* 50-135mm or a DA* 200mm to take pictures of the Random Lake Rams football team games. I hope one of these lenses will be fast enough and close enough.

Don't know when I am going to ship off my right arm to Pentax though.

I noticed several days ago that my 31mm limited has some wobble (the front part had some play) I can move the lens back and forth a touch. Is this normal if not what should I do? It is 8 months old and I bought it brand new from Abes.
What to do, what to do..........................

K10D Cleaning

How often should the K10D be taken in for a good cleaning and a good look over as well as my 31mm limited lens?
I also noticed that I have side to side play at the very end of my lens. Is this normal and should I take that in to have it checked. It is eight months old and I received it this way brand new in the box. I love my lens.

Thank You,

But the 200mm is a set zoom of 200 and that is it, correct? I definitely would like to stick with the DA* lenses or the limited.
Is there a web site that compares actual pictures set at the lenses zoom level to compare the zoom that would be most useful for me?
I trust all of your input and I thank you for that. As you know every photographer has their own style.
This purchase is going to set me back a little but finding the zoom lens is a #1 priority for me.
A zoom lens that I will be able to take all action sport shots and not be disappointed. Low light conditions without using a flash is also a must. I don't like using flash much at all. Any and all inputs welcome.

My choice is between the DA* 50-135 or the DA* 200mm.
Which lens would be best.
Thank You, you people helped me to decide this. Now I need input from you to decide which would be best.

Is the DA* 50-135 going to be close enough being at the sidelines though. Ill probably will have to crop? Very good lens it seems to be indeed. What other alternatives are their? I want to stick with a very good lens being a limited prime lens user.

Hi everyone!:)
I am shooting a K10D. Love it. I also am using a 31mm limited lens. I have recently been shooting football. The 31mm limited is nice but does not cut it for sideline shots. To far away. So................................
What is the best lens for shooting action shots from the sidelines with my K10D, not only football all action shots indoors and outdoors.
Also what filter should I have for my lenses if any.

Thank You,
EAD Studios

Thanks for all your input. The K10D is an excellent DSLR. There is no doubt that there is allot of tinkering around. But you know? So is a 35mm film camera. Settings are important, but they are also to your preference. Everyones eye is different. There is no right or wrong. Wrong becomes right after time, and right doesn't necessarily mean right in others eyes. Photography! What an escape of freedom.

The eye can be tricked, but the trick is in the eyes of the holder.

Thanks everyone!

Raw not affected by color settings?

I think you are correct Lowell. I adjust my auto WB as close to the color of the actual scene that I am taking. And than leave that setting for all pictures that I take. Even though every picture you take is different color in the same WB setting, your f stop values exposure etc........ change the color, so the pictures are still different in color even though you have adjusted the WB as close as possible. Ive learned that even if you try to adjust the WB as close to the actual picture you are taking in camera, you still have to adjust in post processing no matter what. I like natural, exact duplicate of the original picture without post processing. And when I see it in my camera display I compare it to the actual scene and adjust accordingly and leave that altered setting for all my pictures I shot. It is very hard to duplicate.
When you try to adjust the auto WB to the actual scene, the cameras WB dosnt have enough fine tuning to get the WB that is needed. Adjusting the contrast, saturation color settings and WB you can get it close but not exact, shooting in jpeg or Raw. Maybe in the next firmware update this will be altered a bit. Post processing is a must, for now.
Am I losing it or what!
Opinions please................

But have you fine tuned your WB in auto and others, or are they set in default mode. I personally like to adjust the WB as close as I can to the actual scene or portrait that I am shooting. Finn? You have some good looking pictures. Your color is outstanding! What are you doing?
I am using Photoshop CS and am shooting in Raw DNG. I also use Lightroom.
What kind of settings do you have adjusted on your K10D. sharpness, contrast, saturation ect.......

So what I am getting from this is that the settings are stored in the file, but not actually used when previewing my raw image in the display of my k10d.
I have taken many of the same pictures identical to one another with different settings, sharpness, contrast, saturation and WB and all are different in raw.

I guess Im a bit confused when shooting in raw. The way I am understanding is that if shooting in raw, the saturation, sharpness and contrast and white balance that has been fine tuned or altered, set in jpeg does not affect raw?
I see that it does change raw. Am I missing something here?
