Just back from Brussels, Belgium and finally had a chance to go through some of my shots this weekend. Had to try my hand at a rainy night and out of focus with passing umbrellas. My first batch for this week. :) Ken.

Possible that he has a digital filter turned on - see page 132 and page 133 of the manual to turn filters off/on. When a filter is turned on the continuous mode is disabled. A buddy bought a Km on my advice and had the same snag to start with - I believe the toy filter was turned on when he first received it. Good luck. Ken.

If you haven't already, you might want to download the manual ahead of time and get familiar with using white balance for indoors if you're going to shoot jpegs. Very interested in hearing how you like that lens on your K20. Ken. Customer Support - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site |

Without flash, suggest the Tamron at 70 mm or more as required, F2.8 or one or two more stops, ISO 800 or 1600, and as a fast a shutter that this will allow, learn how to use manual white balance setting or try some test shots at various white balance settings until close to what it actually looks like colour wise. If you shoot RAW you can tweak this afterwards but if you shoot at the same gym a lot it is quite handy to set the manual white balance as the camera will remember this. (Just remember to go back to AWB when done at the gym). Try focussing on a certain spot on the floor and switching camera to manual focus mode and then shoot action as it come to that location.
Try capturing shots at the peak of action - also try panning.
Try a few with the flash too to compare.
Others will prefer shooting in sports mode which uses continuous auto focus.
I have my eye on that Tamron and would like to hear more of your results as you learn what works best for you.
Team shots - the wide angle lens and flash
Good luck. :) Ken.

This software came bundled with the recent purchase of a Samsung D760 P&S camera for $70 Cdn. It will convert my PEF files from K100D to various formats but does not convert or display PEF file from K20D. I still tend to use Pentax Photo Browser and Lab for PEF to JPG and TIFF but some of the auto adjust tools in the Samsung software work fine. Red eye reduction tool is not very useful or it may just be the operator. :) Ken.

Hi Kornbread. For something slightly different, try shooting in RAW - convert/save to JPG and monochrome in camera and try applying red filters, or other filters to soften the skin tones of newborns. Good luck. Ken.

Lee. Try taking some shots of the sky at both your largest and smallest aperture and note the differences in the dust spot. Ken.

Two "long odds" thoughts.
1. Did you try wiping/cleaning the camera/lens contacts?
2. I'm very new to K20D but experienced with K100D - if you're using the Green Button to auto set the Shutter Speed to a given aperture - check out page 92 of manual - outside chance that you have setting 3 set when you probably want it set to setting 2 ie you want the Green button to use Tv shift when using lens in manual and other than A position on lens - but this does not sound like your problem.
Good luck with it. Ken.
