Okay, didn't get to do it that night, and had to jump on a plane the next morning. Somewhat recovering from the jet lag now, and just snapped a shot (through a pretty clean window!).

Dropbox - IMGP9815.JPG - Simplify your life

That's the full-sized JPEG. If you want the RAW, I can upload it for you as well. 1/5", F4.0, ISO 800 at 18mm. It's no Limited lens, but for the price I paid, I think it's well worth the money :-)

Sorry was away for a bit and didn't see this till today. Most of the shots I've taken with it so far are group shots in the day. I'm going away again in a few days. Let me see if I can do a quick shot with it tonight and post it up for you.

I actually have the SIgma 10-20 and used it extensively on my K5 and K-01. When I picked up the K1, I a new FF UWA lens was out of my budget so I used the Sigma on it in Crop mode (and heavily-vignetted FF mode as well). It actually produced very good results, and worked just as well on the K-1 as it did the K5 & K-01. I also bought a new old-stock FA J 18-35 and used that on my last trip. The one thing I really like about it is that it is very light and is my poor-man's UWA lens for the K-1. IQ is not as good as the 10-20 in my opinion, but I literally paid $100 for it new, as opposed to the Pentax 15-30 which I really like, but costs 15x more here in Canada. For the kind of shots I like to take, the FA J 18-35 is the lens that's been on my K-1 the most.

5 days! I lasted 5 days....

Stopped by a yard sale today and picked up this beauty for 30 bucks. I might be chased out of these forums with pitchforks saying this, but holding this in my hand is seriously making me want to go out and shoot some film.

Well, I got the email from the store today at 12:44 pm telling me it was available for pickup. I went after work and was informed by the gentleman serving me that mine was basically the last one they had processed for purchase. I just got home and checked it out - I wasn't aware that it came with a bag and a hood as well. I am not too familiar with the lens prior to this purchase, but it worked well. The build quality is reminiscent of the DA-L 18-55 although it does have a metal mount, and for $199, I really have no reason to complain - it IS a good deal. The paperwork says Pentax Canada and is dated 2006, which means it's been sitting on some shelf for 12 years! The only downside to this story (which I mentioned here as well New to the Group/Concerned about Pentax in Canada - Canadian Pentaxians - PentaxForums.com) is that the store is basically clearing out their Pentax stuff (which isn't a lot to begin with) - that means one less place to walk in and get a Pentax lens.

DA lenses on K-1

Finally got my K-1 yesterday after three weeks of waiting, and had about 2 hours before bedtime to try out as many lenses as I could on it. I too went from a K-5 to a K-1 and I am stunned by the quality of the pictures on it in comparison to my old K-5 (and K-01). Even the 28-105 kit lens that I got with the K-1 has surpassed all my expectations. And just like kiwi_jono's observation, I found that while the 10-20 Sigma works well in crop mode it just didn't wow me like the other full frame lenses I have, both new and old. Since I've passed my K-5 on to my son, I would definitely think about getting another crop-body (K-01 doesn't have an OVF which I prefer) to use my non-FF glass on it, but I need some time for my wallet to heal first :-)

Picture Thread....Thrift Store and Yard Sale Finds , Deals , and Scores !

Totally agree with the sentiment - I get more gratification (finding and) spending $10 on an old lens than $500 on a new one. I don't personally get much luck in the few thrift stores I know of in my neck of the woods as any camera equipment there seems to be severely marked up to the point of being ridiculously priced.

Last weekend, I was looking to see if anyone had an old 135mm F2.8 for sale, and came across an ad for one. Turns out, it wasn't for the K-mount, but another two lenses that it came with were. Never mind the fact that I already have five other LBA-induced 28mm lenses, I drove an hour out to the countryside where the ad was listed and scored these for $20. Never heard of this brand before but both K-mounts were basically mint. This has got to be my best score so far. @.a.t. I think I may also have used up my good luck quota for 2018!

Will Ricoh realign resources to further Q development after KP release?

Hmm.. I thought I'd posted an answer here last week, but for some reason I don't see it here today. Anyway, I PMed you SuperK, the Q7 is actually going to another friend of mine who also has a Q. I agree the Q7 is quite hard to find in the GTA, and having used both the Q7 and Q-S1 now, I must say I kinda like the Q7's handling better, but still prefer the Q-S1's ability to do continuous AF during video shooting.

Bit of a tangent here, but I also just realized that if you shoot videos on a Q-S1 and then take that SD card and put it into a Q7 or a Q, videos taken from one camera aren't viewable on any other camera type, but the pictures are. Really weird.

Very nice pics pinholecam - they bring back childhood memories.

Like everyone else here, I'm somewhat saddened by the apparent demise of the Q, but it has still not dampened my enthusiasm for it. My brand new Q-S1 arrived from Amazon last week, and while I haven't had much time to play with it, I did find it to be a worthy upgrade for the venerable Q. Then yesterday, I struck paydirt and found a used (but mint) Q7 bundled with an 02,06 and 07 for a very good price online. So... I'm back to having not 3 but 4 Q bodies now  I'll be giving the Q7 away to a good home and keep the Q-S1 for myself, and am happy to now have 01,02,06 and 07 native lenses, plus a few other adapted ones. I just hope that my Q bodies will last for the next little while. If it does indeed become discontinued, I might just have to get an extra one... just in case...

Let's share shots with Q!

This thread is re-inspiring me again and making me remember why I jumped into the Q system in the first place 2.5 years ago. When it first came out, I thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was, cuteness notwithstanding, but I picked one up when it finally dropped in price. By the end of 2016, I had already bought 3 of them (okay, I gave one away as a present, so I'm not that obsessed!), with 2 Q lenses, and adapters for K, C and 110 mounts and was starting to fret over the fact that there aren't any new Q systems on the horizon. I found the original Q to be a bit too slow when I was traveling recently, and I really want to try the Q-S1 to see if it was better - all accounts I've read so far seem to suggest it is. The price in Canada is still quite high relatively speaking, so I broke down and bought the Q-S1 body from the US (shipping it through one of the cross-border services). Amazon is still taking its time to process the order, but I hope to get my new present in the next two weeks!

Time to upgrade my original K5

That's my thought too. I got the chance to play with a K-1 while I was in Japan recently (tangent : this must be the only place on the planet where one can go into a store and see half the Pentax line-up out on display for you to play with, from a Q-S1 to a 645D) and while I drooled over the pure sexiness of the K-1, I didn't think it was 2.5x better than a K-3 II (which was roughly how much more it cost). I also played with a KS-2 and while I really like the flippy screen, it somehow felt to be less of a camera in the hand compared to the K-3 II and even my current K-5.

So, fwiw Sage97, I myself would probably lean towards the K-3 II because the built-in GPS is a more important feature to me.

D-BG4 in Canada

Okay, this is basically a yawn for anyone outside of Canada :-) but if you are still looking for the OEM D-BG4 grip for your K7/K5/K5II and don't want to get bitten by the horrible USD-CAD exchange rate, you might want to check out The Camera Store.
(Pentax D-BG4 Battery Grip)

Ordered it three days ago, and it arrived yesterday. $199 + $10 shipping (+ your local province's tax). Interestingly, the manual still says Hoya (2011) but the box itself shows Ricoh. Yes, I'm late to the grip party, but better late than never. :) Camera feels a lot heavier naturally, but I'm loving that my pinky finger is no longer dangling in the air!

Pentax Q Adapter for K-Mount on sale at Amazon.com

Not sure how long this sale has been on (or will stay on), but I noticed that the Pentax Q Adapter for K-Mount Lenses is on sale at Amazon.com for USD$148.55. Amazon.com : Pentax Q Adapter for K-Mount Lenses : Camera Lens Adapters : Camera & Photo

I've been wanting to get one, but the price in Canada + tax bumps it close to CAD$300, and it's against my religion to get an adapter that costs more than the price of the camera body + lens

Anyway, I just ordered it. It's free shipping within the US, and they also do ship to Canada (with additional shipping and import duty which brings it close to USD$177).

Aftermarket batteries? Halcyon or Wasabi?

While I have not tried either the Halcyon or Wasabis, I had bought third party batteries for my Kodak Playsport Camera in the past, and they worked fine for about a year before they started bulging, and stopped working altogether. When new, they also did not hold the charge as long as the original Kodak KLIC-7004 battery that came with the camera.

What's this got to do with Pentax Q, you might ask. Well, shortly after I bought my Pentax Q, I realized that the battery used in the Kodak was IDENTICAL to the one used in the Q, as well as the battery used for some Fuji cameras. Having also bought third party batteries in the past for other devices and not having much luck other than with Mugen (for my smartphone), I decided I'd stick to some branded ones instead for the Q.

I ended up buying this -
Amazon.com : Fujifilm NP-50 Lithium Ion Rechargeable Battery for Fuji F60fd, F50fd & F100fd Digital Cameras - Retail Packaging : Camera & Photo

The Kodak one can be found here -
Amazon.com : Kodak Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery/KLIC 7004 : Digital Camera Batteries : Camera & Photo

I find the prices are also comparable to third party batteries, and though it cost me a little bit more to ship to Canada, it was still a lot cheaper than the the Pentax ones. So far, I've found the Fuji ones to work just as well as the Pentax one too. Hope this helps anyone else considering third party batteries!

K-M42 Adapter back in stock at Adorama $29

(un!)Fortunately, I discovered this particular forum today, saw this thread and decided to check it out. I have *barely* started to stray into Manual Lense territory but decided a good start would be to get the real adapter (and try not to be infected with LBA!). After seeing Henry's bargain price of $89.99 Canadian for the same thing, I decided to create an account on Adorama and go for it.

For anyone that's interested, I actually tried to add two adapters to my cart before checking out, and it seems that the shipping price didn't change, so if you know anyone who needs one too, you can save on shipping that way. FWIW, this is what it cost me to order it from Ontario, Canada :
Price $ 29.95
Tax: $ 3.89
Shipping Cost: $ 14.70
Total: $ 48.54
