How to track fstop and shutter speed when shooting film or vintage lenses on digital?

I use a Lightroom plugin called lens tagger. You can rename a lens, for example my 28 2.8M I rename to it’s proper name instead of 28 mm K or M lens. This works well. You can even enter the proper F stop if you keep track, the camera does keep shutter speed and iso for each picture. I believe there is even a part that you can record the film type. If you kept good notes while you were shooting your film and added the images to your Lightroom catalog you could put all the info into the exif data so you could search for it in Lightroom.

AF/MF switch on DA*300

Faint wines and beeps would be a good description of the sound. I had it out today photographing chickadee and it worked fine. Yesterday was colder (-5C) when it got cold it switched to manual focus and wouldn’t switch back until it warmed up. I think the switch just isn’t making total contact in the AF position. It will be nice when the new comes in.

It’s not really a click more a faint sound. I’ll see if i can post a video somehow. Thanks for the info. I’m going to call the camera shop I deal with and see what they want to do about it. It’s brand new maybe they can get in another and swap it for me.

The lens makes a clicking sound when it acquires focus. Is that normal.

This one was in the silver box, I picked it up yesterday. There wasn’t one in Canada so they had to order it in. It took quite a while to come in. I’m hoping I don’t have to send it in and get it fixed.

Is there still an issue with the SDM motors? What I had read the problem on the new ones had been resolved.

Not that I’ve noticed. It just goes into MF as far as I can tell.

No I’m only changing it on the lens. I push the switch all the way forward until it stops. That should be the AF position i would think.

---------- Post added 12-01-20 at 09:40 PM ----------

Sometimes it will go into AF and then switch back to MF after a while with out moving the switch. I’m starting to wonder if the switch is faulty.

Hi
I just received my DA*300 that I had on order for quite a while. It seems to me that the AF/MF switch on the lens is acting up. This is the first lens with this feature I have. I’m using a K3. If I flip the switch to MF it switches over ok, but when I return the switch to the AF position it doesn’t go back to auto focus. After a short time it will go back into auto focus but I don’t think it should take this long. I wondered if this could be a firmware issue, couldn’t really see it since the camera came out after the lens, but I did upgrade the camera to the most recent firmware. Has anyone else had an issue like this, if so is this a common problem with these lenses.

Thanks
Evan

High Speed Sync with a Metz Flash

Just to try it out. I pulled out my Cactus II triggers and set them to power sync. I could get the flash to fire all the way to 1/8000 shutter speed in manual and get a properly exposed image with some trial and error. TTL didn’t seem to meter properly it was always bright. I guess I could come up with a bracket system and use those. Any ideas what I’m missing?
Thanks

Ciao
Hi isn’t the idea of high speed sync so you can shoot faster than the camera sync speed?

High Speed Sync with a Metz Flash

Hi
I have a K3 and a Metz 50 AF-1. When I attach the flash to my camera and set it to high speed sync it appears to prefire like it should, but it doesn’t seem to actually fire, at least not enough to light anything. I understand the range is greatly reduced, but I’ve tried it even under 10 feet. I’m using a 55-200 at 200 and my aperture is set from f6.3 to f8, the iso is 500 and shutter speeds were 1/200-1/400, so not extremely fast. I’ve tried both aperture and aperture/shutter priority. I’ve also tried standard flash, and trailing curtain (which I originally thought was maybe my problem) but neither seemed to work. I’m trying to use it for fill flash for bird photography so a faster shutter speed would be nice. Is it a compatibility problem or am I missing a setting somewhere.
Thank you

Flash Settings with flash modifiers

Hi
I have a simple question and I was wondering what your guys thoughts on this was. I have a Metz 50AF and a set of cactus V6ii triggers. I also have a couple small soft boxes that I attach onto the flash when using it off camera. My question is what zoom setting should you set the flash to when using these? I've been flipping the wide angle diffuser down, my thought being it would spread the light the widest across the soft box, making the largest light source. Just wondering what others do?
Thank you

Thanks Class A
I'll give that a try today if I get a chance. I'm still trying to understand a few more features of these cactus triggers, such as how to get rear sync to work as well as the delay and multi flash modes.

Thank you for the explanation on how the system works. I didn't realize that the cactus system still relies on the P-TTL protocol to work. That explains why a few other things I have observed with system. In general for what I do it works well.

Hi
I have K3 as well as some old K and M lenses. I'm trying to use my Cactus V6ii triggers to fire my flash with these lenses. I know the pTTL mode doesn't work, but I thought if I set the cactus trigger to manual on my camera I should be able to adjust my flash level. This doesn't seem to work the flash will fire, but only on the highest power. Am I missing a setting somewhere. If I put my speedlight directly on the flash and set it to manual I can adjust the level, I'm not sure what the difference is.
Thank you

Thanks for the other ideas. Another background I use are spare pieces of tile from my kitchen floor. It's a man made tile, but looks like limestone. The fly looks like it's sitting on rock.
As far as the mouse, it's tied out of rabbit zonkers, but I use the majic tool to cut the hide of and spin the hair in a dubbing loop. I haven't had a chance to cast it but I hope it's not too bad. If it is I'll use my 8wt.

Thanks for the ideas.
It is a mouse. The head is made out of a foam popper head and then coloured with sharpie markers.

My apologies, i thought the exif info would show up. All are take with K3 and DFA 50 mm macro. A speed light is setup to the right running TTL metering. The camera is set at ISO 100, 180th shutter speed to get a black back ground.

Picture #1 F32,no reflectors.

Picture #2 F2.8 with a rubbermaid tub lid acting as a reflector on the left side. I know, kind of hokey, but it works. I was going for very little depth of field but still being able to light the left side as well.

Picture #3, the bait fish streamer. F22 with the same reflector set up.

If you would like a picture of the setup i could rig my my Kx and take a picture.

Macro Tube Guide ( Using extension tubes )

Does anyone make a set of extension tubes for Pentax that have the contacts to transmit lens data. I don't care about focusing, just running the fstop and using the pttl metering for my flash. If not what makem of extension tubes do you recommend?
Thank you.
