Hi, I assumed you already tried the old Pentax 85 mm on your K-1. I tried mounting 85 mm on my K-1, but it seems they are not communicating with each other i.e. aperture only indicates '--'. Have you encountered any of this and I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Prices at Salam Studio are a bit high and few selections, but I guess It is the only authorized store for repairs. I always order my stuff from BHPhotoVideo and Adorama (it actually helps this forum, by clicking on the links to these online stores in this site), but my recent purchase of used lenses was from eBay :) I have not tried that BHM. If you are lucky enough, some shops nearr Ghubaiba bus terminal store Pentax and Sigma lenses and prices are very competitive.

Hi FantasticMrFox, I believe you can make a case on the model release form based on your submission but feel that they could not bend their own rules. Since deadline is still approx. 50 days away I guess you still have time to contact them at info@hipa.ae.

Dear All
I just saw the winners of the "Complementary Colors" Photo Contest and the other day read a notification from HIPA (Hamdan International Photography Award) and realized that their theme for this year is "Life In Colour", somehow a coincident.
I am sure that some of you has already known this but I just want to share this to the rest of my fellow Pentaxians re: HIPA which is one of the biggest photography competitions worldwide. HIPA is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This is a yearly competition and open to all individuals over 18 years of age and anyone interested may register at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (please read the rules and FAQs). Registration is free and submission of entries is through their website. You may be required to submit a proper identification (passport, national ID, etc.) though may be a setback for many people due to privacy concerns and confidentiality.
I am not so sure if any winners previously have used a Pentax camera and am interested and excited to know if any of us (Pentaxians) will be finalists for this year. This is a very stiff competition as everyone is competing against tens of thousands photo enthusiasts. Last year grand prize winner was from China.
The above may not be new and apologies for that. :D
Cheers and good luck! [Not really sure if I am allowed to advertise here but yeah I tried :)] |

Hi Trevelyn, am too struggling to find time to shoot...switching to new company while summer just ended...but I guess Dec, Jan and Feb are best times when weather is pleasant and cool enough.

Yes, in Ghubaiba 3-5 mins walk from the bus terminal, situated at the corner of Al Nahda St and Al Raffa St. I do not have the name of the shop but it is somewhat jam-packed, not well-lit and lot of salesman at the counters.

Haven't heard of MK Trading, though there are a few shops in Ghubaiba (near bus terminal) selling Sigma and even Pentax lenses, a bit cheaper but takes a little bit of haggling.

There were only two transactions I made with them. One was to fix the SD card slot and the other is when I bought my battery grip for my K-5. After that, I started ordering from B&H or Adorama for my needs.

Guess Ricoh is very careful releasing a FF in terms of specs, price, etc...if they do release next year (fingers crossed) I am pretty sure other FF camera users will be jealous, hehe! But who knows?

Many? of course will be happy if Ricoh release next year the much-anticipated FF and as long as they do not abolish the name 'Pentax' I'll be happier. I do not want to be called Ricohteer, Ricohnese, Ricohist, Ricohzen, and other not-so-nice sounding names, LOL! :)
Praying to the pixel god, please please please release the FF at the soonest...!!!

Very rare (or perhaps endangered) in the Middle East or Dubai the least...never met or seen anyone shooting with a Pentax. I was asked a couple of times 'why Pentax' and I hate being in the situation that I had to defend myself. Sad thing, most people (whether they own one or not) think that the best DSLRs come from Canon or Nikon. But, hey I got some nice comments too. People are amazed with my DA 40 and photos taken with it, or the photos taken with my DA 55-300. I just bought FA 77 and I know I still have a lot to learn.

Hahaha! Perhaps, FK1 for a full frame K-mount but doesn't sound nice ;P ---------- Post added 10-25-14 at 04:46 AM ---------- Yeah, I think it would be nice to take advantage of the other lenses outside Pentax with the release of the next DSLR (FF)?

I see now Steve, 'D' for digital. Had to google 'Costanza', I remember him as always the loser! Haha. You maybe right Aleon, K-1 for the full-frame, yessssssss! :) ---------- Post added 10-24-14 at 09:26 PM ---------- Hahaha, mee! You're right about the 'lazy' part! :D I did not google about '4' but I thought of it as a bad luck in some countries like number 13. Some Asian countries do not use '13' hence you would not see 13th Floor in most of their buildings.

Just wondering if Ricoh is going to release another DSLR (APS-C or FF) in a not-so distant future since the price of K-3 was further brought down, will they call it maybe K-9 for a K-mount as they pretty much used all the odd numbers between 1 and 10. Or will they call it K4, K6 hmmm... K8 would be nice as 8 is also a lucky number for some?
So another thought maybe a FF (if they have plan) is not a K-mount? I would like to own an equipment that I can be proud of and I think a catchy name is important :) I am thinking of a name that will really sell and I could not think of one, LOL!
CaNikon have been using a suf/prefix 'D' to their cameras which are successful, and I'm still not sure what 'D' stands for (too lazy to google).
Cheers!

It seems that Ricoh will not release a FF anytime soon but still keeping that faith that they would, early next year, mid next year...and so on. For quite sometime, I am thinking of owning FA lenses 77mm, 31mm and 85mm as they have really good reviews but not really sure if they are really good investments should an FF comes out (am just a photo enthusiast) and would it be better to buy these lenses now? The reason I asked is because if Ricoh would release a FF sometime, does it follow that these FA lenses will also become more expensive and harder to find. Apologies, if I had to write on this section but any advice from anyone is appreciated. Thanks.
Proud Pentaxian - only person I know who owns a Pentax in U.A.E. is ME :D!

Hi everyone at PentaxForums! Greeting from Dubai, UAE!
I have been a K-5 owner since December last year and now got 5 lenses to date (excluding the kit lens). I have been checking this site every now and then and this is my first ever post. Almost all the DSLR-owners I know in here in Middle East have Nikon and I think and am proud to say that I am the only Pentaxian here. LOL!
PentaxForums is providing very helpful information especially to Pentax users. In fact, PF helped me decide to buy the latest addition to the family, Pentax SMCP-DA 40mm F/2.8 (Limited Edition Pancake), and I am very happy with it. My K-5 and this lens have been inseparable ever since. Even one of my Nikonian friends noticed the sharpness of the pictures with the lens I used.
More power to PentaxForums and congratulations with your 2M plus posts.
