I think it depends on the actual frame size of the camera itself, thus the recorded area on film. This is most of the time not exactly the 3:4 ratio. I recall that when I ordered reprints of certain frames, the composition sometimes differed from the original so it is up to you, or the person who prints them, what the actual data will be.
You have to shuffle the film in the scanner to get the desired composition per frame. You may be right that it doesn't cover the entire area.

Here are some pics of the same set but then by Asahi. There are some differences, the inner diameter of the Kenko set is smaller and the mount which contacts the body is not anodized on the Asahi.
With manual lenses on this Asahi set it works flawless when you use the green button in M-mode for metering with any setting of the aperture ring before hitting the exposure button. You can actually see it quickly stop down to the preset aperture when you press the green button.
Since I don't know what is the effect of the anodized mount I cannot tell if it should be polished to bare metal for this mechanism to work. But you can try...

Crap, you are right! I found the table on a different page in the Dutch manual, I read it once but is easy to miss. Usually the English version is preferred but this was a single booklet, the English version was combined with French, German and Italian and maybe even Spanish so I put it in the box. Since I don't have (had) an ist D, ist DS or ist DS2 I just skipped any passage relating to them and indeed there it is mentioned that TTL is displayed on the LCD.
But I assure you that any shop I investigated, also in online specs given, state that only P-TTL is supported. It kind of feel a bit pissed now for not reading the manual at least TWICE.
Anyway, my little test confirms what is in the manual after all ;)

Same happened here. There was some Pentax stuff on a shelf and people thought, oh he's a collector and that's how I ended up with some bodies, lenses and gear for free. The rest is all epay and pawnshop stuff. The only body I bought new was a P30T but that was stolen along the way. And of course the K-x and digital stuff but that's a different story. I keep that stuff out of sight and ready to go.

Ok, that sounds logical. Specialist 'contact spray' is preferable but still, a moving part like the shutter button can profit from some electrical neutral lubrication.
Now I'll have to wait for things starting to fail on on me.
At least dirty electrical contacts on the K-mount and lenses love it anyway. All ME (Supers) I handled had stuck or sticky exposure dials which got moving again (without disassembly and still do) with the tiniest drop of the stuff-I-cannot-mention on a toothpick.

Really awesome landscapes! They remind me a lot of my geology field practica in central and southern Spain; Miocene marls, Buntsantstein etc. Perhaps a hint of localization would be nice ;)

A simple conclusion from the above is that before I can add any useful comments (except for my preference for interface etc.) is that I need to do some photo editing course. Just need some live experience instead of trying to invent the wheel for myself. To explain, it is quite cumbersome to figure out what every icon and tool does and to properly apply them. It's like learning to fly by being locked up in a cockpit with just a manual of the plane.

Little update: over the weekend I played a bit with trial versions of Lightroom 4 and Elements 10.
If I would have to choose with my current knowledge I would go for Elements 10, it's just a matter of layout and the way Lightroom tried to import my photo library was a bit awkward. Moreover, Lightroom seemed a rather bit slower to performe than Elements.
Finally I ran back to my 'trusted' Picasa 3 when I needed things done within a sound amount of time. This is just knowing your way around but in this case I just couldn't manage the job in Elements without the online help every 2 minutes and even then...

Due to progressive insight, you can also savely buy one of the newer flashes like AF-360FGZ or AF-540FGZ because they do support both TTL and P-TTL.
This is however nowhere mentioned in the manuals etc. I've tested it, it works!

I've been pondering a while on this. In a way it doesn't make sense. TTL works rather well and for me great on film which can be found in a lot of different colors and textures, depending on brand and make of the film. Thus differences in reflections measured by the TTL-sensor can be expected but still creating acceptable results.
A sensor however is (a) constant, it is always the same, always behaves the same and therefore should be expected to give very predictable results, i.o.w. theoretically perfectly suitable for TTL. Only reason I can think of is when the sensor behaves as a black hole and simply not enough light is reflected to a TTL-sensor. (Or the sensor itself could be used to measure the light in realtime to shut off the flash but this is a different discussion I guess...)
Meanwhile I've been shooting some slide-film with my Super A and recently acquired Super Program (I like chrome versions and this one is seldomly found in Europe) using the old AF280T and the newer (and only as P-TTL supporting listed) AF-360FGZ and BOTH work fine in TTL-mode! At least the flash unit is 'downward' TTL-compatible which IMHO is a more userfriendly -even foolproof- system than P-TTL. And will boost using the analog stuff a lot ;)
On the other hand I'm getting the hang of the P-TTL mode on the K-x. It just takes some experimenting and deciding on your preffered presets. Perhaps an upgrade to a K-5 to program flash settings in the User modes is an option...

It is to approximate the most optimal setting for the Shake Reduction so you should give the total focal length (lens + tube).

Did you trade in your K-x then or do you keep it as a backup? A second DSLR as backup is probably a bit ott, and trading can save a buck or some, to use on extra batteries and a grip etc...
BTW, I have no problems handling the K-x except for some unplanned nose-bumping to the live view button once in a while (left eye viewer).

Thanks emalvick and all others too, it is clear now that it is best for me to start out with Lightroom. If it turns out I need or want more, then go for Elements or CS (or experiment with others)...
I just started to notice that it is actually quite fun to do some basic enhancement. It gives a lot of satisfaction to dig a bit into the pixels to find out what you've actually shot and the results of manipulation. I've even got the feeling it will influence the shooting itself eventually...

That Cambridge-site is worth spending time on, it looks pretty impressive!
In the meantime, is it correct to state flatly that Lightroom is for organizing photos and that Elements is 'CS-light' for processing? So in fact you need both?

Woah, thanx a lot for the suggestions and input but don't get me overloaded ;)
A lot of the mentioned programs are already on my disk in one version or the other like ACDsee, Irfanview, Picasa, the GIMP, some built-in Windows stuff and Faststone (the latter I found via this forum but I haven't played much yet since I have it). Most are good at certain key jobs but not suitable for one stop shopping.
I was checking the Adobe website and found a gazillion Photoshop products, [smug mode start] which of course are all great photo and video editing products, seemingly all can do almost the same but they only have different names, packaging and prices. There is even a version called CS5 for photographers, wow! [smug mode end].
How can a sensible person decide what product suits his needs based on such dis-information??? There are really no clear indicators in what e.g. Elements differs from Lightroom except for the price, I can imagine some interface differences but not from Adobe's info, except that Elements is primarily used by house-moms.
For now I downloaded a trial Lightroom 4, only need some time to try and get used to it...

If this question has popped up before, a simple reference to it (and hopefully answers) will do...
But otherwise I would like to know what are the main characteristics, possibilities, limitations and need-to-know-things of the different well-known software packages like Photoshop, Lightroom, GIMP, Picasa and all that I forget here. I'm not a PP die-hard and use it mainly to retouche dust-specs and lift colors a bit in digitized films. Till now I effectively only used Picasa but sometimes in processing articles is reffered to layers and stuff which I can not find (or just don't know how to use).
Someone here with experience with other software that combines the usability of Picasa with more advanced features? There are probably also some K-x exposures that could be improved with a light tough of processing.
Now I think of it, any recommended reading on this subject?
