Just updated my K3 with a Mac and no problems. One thing to remember though....the file name MUST be fwdc220b.bin. It will NOT, I repeat NOT WORK if it's called fwdc220b-x x.bin where x is a number e.g. fwdc220b-2 2.bin. The Mac sometimes auto renames the file in the download folder if the same file name exists from a previous firmware download. What I do is copy the latest file to a blank formatted SD card and rename it to fwdc220b.bin This works fine for me! Hope this helps?

Went out again in the rain today as theres was an improvement overnight (due to unit drying out I reckon). Within minutes though I noticed the top LCD had lots of moisture(see pic) then about an hour later the rear LCD completely failed. The camera was operational but no way of reviewing images/changing settings etc. I also noticed the viewfinder seemed to be fogging up internally. Due to the problems I've had I've asked for a replacement as this might run and run with it back and forth the service centre.

Hi and yes I've clicked on settings complete and everything seems to work fine.......except the on/off switch. I cannot switch the camera off! Only by removing the battery does this work. Once removed and reinserted I'm back at the time/date settings screen which I set and saved 1 minute previously. To me it must be water or moisture in the unit. ---------- Post added 05-23-14 at 11:33 PM ---------- It's late in the uk now so I'll let things settle overnight and it'll hopefully dry out if water has somehow got in. Another test tomorrow as the weather here in Wales is raining again!

Yes, can set the time and date.......but cannot turn the camera off without removing the battery again! Once reinserted set time/date appears again.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I flashed the firmware myself before returning but the work request form states "Camera checked with No faults found + firmware updated". I think I'll request a replacement now as I had it 11 days before returning, then Service Centre had it for 1 month. It's been back 2 weeks and this is the first real test in the rain. It produces great images but it's very problematic right now.

Hi all. I've been out today in quite rainy weather for about 2.5 hours taking bird/nature photographs with my relatively new K3. All worked well and it was my first serious test of the weather sealing. However now I'm home the K3 has gone into a very funny mode (pictures below).
Firstly, the camera would not turn on so I removed the battery and no signs of water. I re inserted said battery and with the camera switched off the K3 starts up at the time/date setup screen! Flicking the switch to on and off seems to have no effect and only battery removal kills power.
Heres's some pics showing the K3 with power switch clearly turned OFF. I never had a single issue with my K5 in inclement weather and I've only recently had the unit returned from repair after the slapping mirror/poor FPS performance. This is not good :-(

Update on my mirror flap problem. I took the K3 out today for some birding shots and noticed that the continuous shooting speed was way down. I had just installed 2 x new 95Mb/s Extreme Pro flash cards and thought they might be faulty. However on returning I compared to my K5IIs with the cards and same lens on both. The K5IIs was twice as fast and easily reached the 7fps but the K3 was struggling to do 3 or 4 and again this was at variable speed sometimes going at 1-2 fps. Emailed the company I bought K3 from and they have a suspicion this poor fps performance might be linked to the mirror slap/flap problem. Will update once the camera has been returned. Gutted as I've only had it for 2 weeks.

I've updated Aperture to the latest version with K3 support. However, all my RAW DNG files when imported look very very dark. Strangely during the import preview they look fine, but once fully imported and selected VERY DARK like 3-4 stops underexposed. I've then taken some shots in PEF RAW and they look fine. No such issues with RAW DNG files from my K5IIs. Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks
Phil

New K3 bought this week so first few birds shots (Heavily cropped). Need time to learn the camera but very happy with the initial results.
All shots taken with DA*300mm and new HD 1.4TC

K3 - SN - 4850486
Originally came with firmware 1.00.
I installed a 3rd party battery when new while the Pentax original was charging. I knew the "Maxsima foto 7.2 1860mAh" was fully charged but only showing 50% or less. Within 10 shots from new, the mirror flap just went wild so immediately removed the battery as nothing else responded. Upgraded firmware to 1.03 and installed the genuine battery and went out on a bird shoot and took 600+ shots with no issues. On return tried the fully charged Maxisma again and after again about 10 shots the mirror flap returned! Looks like mine is defintely related to a battery power issue.

@Clavius
When you are comparing the 6D against the K5IIs you are putting the best APS-C camera on the market against probably the lowest spec Full frame. Is that really worth a 75% price differential? Every specification on the 6D(mag alloy body apart), if it were found on an APS-C body would make it a very basic entry level camera.

Seems Amazon UK have now removed it from the site. Sounds like news has got to Pentax/RIcoh and they are not happy!

Hi there. I had the Sigma 150-500mm and it got damaged so when I got the insurance payout I decided to go with the DA*300mm instead. I found the Sigma a little soft at the long end as a previous poster said. Well the DA*300mm blew me away with the colour/contrast and sharpness. You could easily crop the DA* to the 500mm equivalent and come out with better images in my opinion. The sigma is a good lens but the DA*300mm is an absolute stunner.

Simply superb. It just shows you don't need a 36MP Nikon D800 to take a fantastic shot! Congrats again.

Hi there. It might be worth waiting if you can? There's a new DA* 18-85 on the roadmap that could just be the one! I'm certainly very interested in this one :-)

I'm with you there! I've just "invested" in a DA 15mm Limited and it arrived yesterday so not had chance to have a play yet. Like you I work hard all year round so the occasional treat is no bad thing :-). Oh, and my wife keeps buying handbags and shoes so she has her guilty pleasures as well!

oops! apologies for that. I was just highlighting one of the issues of leaving SR on and not getting the results you were expecting. Agreed with Westmill about not getting that less than sharp shot when SR is always on.

I've noticed that the bokeh is a lot "busier" with SR turned on at the higher shutter speeds. It's all about experimenting and getting to know both your camera body and lenses.

Hi there and just been reading this post with some interest! Not sure if it's been said anywhere but you should turn Shake Reduction OFF if you're using a shutter speed of 1/1250. This is way too fast for a SR/VR/IS system.
