No calendar, just weather reports. Weather determines where I go, if I go at all. Overcast means possible trips to the Redwoods, or wildlife shooting, or to the zoo. Possibility of interesting sunset (clouds and sunshine) might mean a jaunt somewhere up the coast. During summer months I keep track of weather forecast for the inland mountains, looking for thunderstorms or brief cold fronts. When snow showers were forecast for Crater Lake on the first weekend in summer, I made sure I was there. My calendar is the weather forecast. Only cloudless skies or severe winds will keep me home when I have a mind to go shooting.

I'll put an event on my google calendar from time to time but it's 50/50 whether that means I'll actually go. My style to grab a handful of lenses and go wander around someplace when the impulse strikes.
Exactly ;~)

one hell of a camera for studio.. and if you use the supplied software that came with it you can get really a nice pop to the colors -- something i can't seem to do in LR4 really well.. here i use "Reversal Film" and then exported to CaptureNX to lift the shadows slightly.. that's it..
i have some other examples maybe i'll post it later.. |

Just looking through KEH's site and they have some really good deals on 645 glass right now. The same BGN 45-85mm FA that I paid over $800 for in March is now under $500.
They also have the 35mm A for the cheapest I've seen it at under $600.
Too bad I already own all the lenses I need for my 645D!

I believe it actually goes back far before digital. At one time, Pentax was a major force in the film world. Then Nikon, soon followed by Canon developed a marketing strategy that Pentax ignored. What Nikon and Canon did was to makes sure pros got their hands on the latest offerings, often for free or on loan. People always imitate what professionals do, so when they saw pros using Nikons or Canons, that's what they bought. Pentax was left in the dust. Because of this, when digital became available, both Nikon and Canon had the resources to switch before Pentax, and they continued their same marketing strategy of getting them into the hands of professionals first.

I know several working professional photographers and they all have respect for Pentax products. 2 guys who work for area newspapers shoot with Nikons which are owned by the newspaper and one of them uses a Panasonic for his personal use. Another wedding photographer I know shoots with Sony. The others bought into Nikon or Canon DSLR systems before Pentax had anything to offer. The biggest problem with Pentax has been their marketing in the US or more correctly, their lack of it. Hopefully, that will change. A bigger problem is getting people with a sizeable investment in glass and other accessories to switch. While some will acknowledge that Pentax is making excellent products, they aren't going to switch. You won't hear the older guys who have been around a while putting down Pentax.

You know....it just doesn't matter what others think. The older I get the less concern I have for the biases of the "herd". I'm running out of time....actually, we all are......just try to find your "comfort zone" and then enjoy it! Pentax fits in my zone pretty nicely, as does my little X10, not much else matters to me...photographically. :D
Regards!:)
Mrs Rupert told me I would be happier with new boots...I'd look better, and "fit in" better as I went on my business about town. So...I got some new boots. Mrs Rupert lied. My old boots (which I dug out of the trash when she wasn't looking) are more comfortable, and look just fine for me...old and worn out like I am. You need to listen to yourself..... however, if you do want to listen to Mrs Rupert...I'll get you some gas for the lawnmower!
Edit: I just noticed, right at the top of this Forum it says Photographic Related Threads are not allowed here! Looks like you are getting the hang of "doing your own thing" faster than I imagined! Nice going...just keep it up, and you will stop worrying about Pentax, and worry more about getting a "Warning Letter".....like me!:lol::lol: I have a ton of them, Otis makes little folding airplanes out of them...he has an entire fleet!

This is the only time I tried it. The ground here has a few inches of snow on it. Branches seem to look similar to foliage. |

Ken Rockwell talks some real crap, but also some real sense. I think this is one of the gems!
"Throughout the entire 1980s, I still would haul a huge bag loaded with two bodies and Nikkor 16mm Fisheye, 17mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm f/1.4, 55mm Micro, 105mm f/1.8 and 180mm f/2.8 ED lenses everywhere I went. I thought I was slimming down when I left the 50mm at home and started using the 55mm Micro as a normal lens, and when I replaced the heavy 105/1.8 with an 85/2 and replaced the big 180/2.8 with a smaller 200/4.
Today, I grab one camera, one lens, and go. I have more fun, and get far better pictures."
My one lens from your bag would be the 28-75/2.8. And I'd cheat and chuck the little F50/1.7 in a pocket!

i try and keep it simple 3-4 lenses if possible, in my case it would all be primes, Vegas I'd go 14/35/50/85 myself (longer than the 100 you have i doubt is needed there)
take a tripod:D

The 645D isn't targetted for photography requiring high ISO to compensate for poor conditions. It's meant for photography where the photographer either has a great deal of control of the exposure external to the camera (lighting) or has time to set up the shot carefully and use slower shutter speeds.
You don't need ISO 51200 for portraiture, fine art, landscape and architecture work. What you do need is extremely good dynamic range and signal to noise ratios.
FWIW - the max ISO on the Hasselblad H4D-60 is 800 and it sells for over $30K USD for the body alone.

That's a long time. ;)
Here is Delta 3200 on 120 film. At 100% there is a lot of grain and blacks don't have as much scale in them just like digital at high ISO. But film's natural response to highlights (compresses them) makes for better shots with lights, IMHO. |

A few more from Santa Cruz Island, one of my all time favorite places.
Heading back to the dock from the top of the island.
Typical island scenery. There are no roads, shops, trash, nothing out here. It's like California must have looked 500 years ago.
A cedar grove planted by an early settler for his daughter. That's Anacapa Island in the distance.
An abandoned drilling rig. From it's small size I'm guessing it was a water well.
Classic California vegetation.
Highland scene.
This little fox was moving just a little too fast for me. It was the best I could do. These foxes almost died out in recent years but are now staging a strong comeback.
