Pentax LX Repair Help

I have 2 LX: in one, this button comes out as soon as I stop pushing it. On the one I want to repair, the button takes very long time to come back in its original position (2secs), like if there is something which delays it. Sorry if my terminology is not the best.

Also thank you for the hint on the screws, luckily I did know this thing and I used a multi-heads screwdriver.

P.S. do you know what is that white sticker on camera-left corner? It seems to be part of the leather and not something sticked to it.

Thank you everyone!

Pentax LX Repair Help

I'm going to try to repair my "new" Pentax LX and for this I need your help. I know I can send somewhere to get serviced, but my intention is to do it by myself.

Problems are 2 mainly:

1) button in the red circle has some problems: when I press it, it won't stay pressed and seems to be a little sticky.
2) there is a little pin on the shutter dial which lock the "auto" mode: mine is always depressed, so it doesn't lock. Not a real problem, but I would like to fix it.
Now, how can I remove the plates to get into the front side of the camera? Is there a procedure (like firstly the top, then the bottom, then....)?

Any help is appreciated!

NEW or USED gear... What's in your bag?

I'm really careful on investigate the seller and its feedback prior to buy something, and most of the time this make me lose some great occasions. But when I finally buy, I'm not disappointed. My analog camera and lenses are all used.

I am usually a lot more careful on the digital system, because seems that people don't care much about it, so they usually have more problems. This said, there are also a lot of people who buy new stuff, don't like it or don't use it and sell them half the price in like-new conditions.
In the end, yes: if I can buy used gear, I do after a lot of researches.

I picked them because in Italy they are the most common film you can find in shops, representing the cheap and expensive category. Price usually are for ColorPlus 4€ and for Portra 8-10€

Thank you for your entries, I've added a few on the map!

Thank you!

Yes, I've mentioned Portra or Colorplus because here small shops have just cheap film.

You can add the film you want, because if someone is searching that particular film, he/she have already an idea of the range price.

It is just as an additional criteria to choose between shops. Actually not mandatory, but I thought it would be nice to have an idea.

Hi!

I had the idea of collect on a single Map all the Film shops around the world. This, after finishing my rolls a bit too early this summer...

I realized that a simple Google search can not provide always good result and above all, the advice of a local person could be really precious about quality, speed of developing, or if the shop is no more there (what happened to me).

I made this Google Module where you can fill the infos about your favourite shop, the one near you, or just the one you found for the first time this year.

(if you prefer, you can send me a private message, or even post the infos here. Module was made for people I can't reach from the forum. These the infos I need: name of the shop, website, phone number, if it's a shop, a darkroom or a person, price of a roll of portra400 or Colorplus200 36exp and, if it's a shop, if it sell cameras, do prints/scans)

Once I receive it, I add on this Google Map page so that everyone can see it (you can find the link also at the end on the Google Module).
So far, I've added only the ones I know from my area (Italy).

I don't know if this can be useful or helpful. But if it is, please consider to share your place!

Pentax M42,K,M,A lens - Confused

On the Pentax side, the main difference is between m42 and K-mount lenses.

- K, M and A are all K-mount lenses and have the same mount, so they fit the same body camera (like your k1000 or your future dslr).

-M42, without an adapter (like m42 to K-mount) can only be mounted on a m42 camera, like a spotmatic.

The differences between k-mount lenses are the built and additional features, like the "A" (which I think stands for Automatic) allows the lens to communicate with camera body (ie. if you mount your 50mm f2 to a dslr body, you are able to read the aperture on the screen, so the camera can adjust other parameters).

You need an adapter to use m42 on a K-mount camera, but I don't think you can use k-mount lenses (with adapter) on a non-pentax body, like your canon 60d, because of a difference in the distance between the sensor and the lens (I don't know the technical term, but the focal planes are not good and in this way the lens won't focus).

I have tried with a canon 5d and a 50mm Pentax-M and the problem I found was the mirror touching the bajonette, and this didn't even let me put the lens on the camera. Some DIY tutorials shows you how to cut the bajonette or in high-end models (like the FA31mm ltd) you can unscrew the bajonette. But I don't suggest you to do so.

Alternatives to the Pentax M 28mm f2?

Thanks guys for all these answers! I have to check many lenses I didn't know about!

About the price... Unfortunately, yes..I'm a student and don't have so much money to invest right now, after I made my big purchase on the LX.
Now I'm saving for a wide angle, but, since my 50mm is too long as an everyday lens, I was consider to buy as soon as possible one between the 28 and 35 focal range. And, between the two, I thought that the 28 can give me more field of view to play with in landscape/urban photography.

I've had already consider the Samyang 24, but I gave up because both the fov is too wide for me and the lens itself it's really big. I was searching for something a bit more compact (yeah, I know that the Pentax 28mm 2.0 is a beast, but I didn't consider at that moment).

I love the 35mm, I would live only with it and the 85mm (which is my go-to for my canon gear), but I wanted to experiment with new lenses now.

I'll take a look to every lens you posted, thanks a lot!

Alternatives to the Pentax M 28mm f2?

Yeah I saw one in the market and the price is really high!

But then, do you recommend the 28mm 3.5? I can also consider third-party lenses, if they are better.

Hi,
I would like to buy this lens, but prices are extremely high and I also can't find a decent copy of this lens, both on the forum and on ebay.

Is there a valid alternative to this lens?

Thank you!
